The route around Santa Rosa Mall was packed with parade goers supporting the Veterans of our Armed Forces. Our own Bill Curtis even got to host Santa himself! Bill and Santa during the parade Lining up for the parade Gary Smith Show n Shine – November 14th, 2009 – Mother Nature cooperated with us this time around and the sunny weather helped with the turnout for the final Show n Shine of 2009. Gary Smith supplied several sacks full of Wendy’s burgers and fries, but we were unable to obtain the traditional shot of Jane eating! Better luck next time, Ken. More Pictures from both the parade and the Show n Shine are available on the ECRMC website on the Gallery page. Surf on over to check them out. Page 3 of 14 Volume 20 Number 12 / Volume 21 Number 1 December 2009 / January 2010 Feed the Coast 2009 – November 21st, 2009 the ECRMC teamed up with St. Sylvester’s Catholic Church in Navarre to collect over 700 non-perishable food items for the Interfaith pantry of South Santa Rosa County and raise money to send a local terminal cancer patient back home for the holidays. Congratulations to the Playground Corvette Club for once again taking home the 6 foot food collection trophy! You would be surprised to see how much food can actually be stuffed into one of those two seater plastic sportscars. The Columbiettes followed the food drive with a 50s sock hop later that evening. HulaHoop contests, Bubble gum chewing and bubble-blowing contests were held while period themed movies like Grease and American Graffiti played on the Parish Center screens. ECMRC Christmas Party – Kara hosted this year’s party at her house on December 5th. Lots of good food and good times were had by those who attended. “Dirty Santa” once again made an appearance. Page 4 of 14 Volume 20 Number 12 / Volume 21 Number 1 December 2009 / January 2010 Destin Christmas Parade – December 12th parade was cancelled due to the weather. No January Meeting – Due to the Silver Springs Ocala Roundup, there will not be a meeting in January. Ocala, 2010 – Speaking of the Silver Springs Roundup, the National Parts Depot sponsored event no longer has any free registrations left. They filled in the first 1000 registrations earlier this year than ever before, so this should prove to be a big show! We have once again booked a block of rooms at the Days Inn just outside the entrance to Silver Springs. The Silver Springs Roundup has always proven to be an excellent show and with it taking place on the Silver Springs Nature Park grounds, there is plenty for nonstangers (if there is such a thing) to do. For those going to Silver Springs, there are two waves of ECRMC’ers cruising to the Springs. The first wave, for those taking part in the Friday Pony Trails cruise from NPD, Ocala to Cedar Key, leaves Thursday, January 7th at 8:00 AM from the I-10 Rest Area just East of Highway 85 in Crestview. For more information on the Thursday cruise, contact Kara. The second wave will be cruising along the coast and enjoying the sites along the way on Friday, January 8th. The Friday crew plans to leave from the Okaloosa Boardwalk / Swamp parking lot by 9 AM on Friday. For more details on the Friday cruise, contact Paul Forakis at 496-1118. Longhorn’s Cruise – With the Holiday season in full swing, there is no Longhorn’s or Hooter’s cruises planned for December or January. Watch for them to return to the regular scheduled list of events after the New Year. Charity Donations – At the December meeting, we emptied the coffers and donated $500.00 each to PAWS and the American Legion Troop Support crew. Representatives from both groups came to the December meeting and spoke to the members before Kara presented them with the donations. We are all proud to be supporting these groups and all the good work they do for our Troops overseas and area animals. New club shirts available – The new Dark Blue club shirts are now available. New members get their first shirt for free, but anyone can purchase shirts from the club. Look for Jane at the next club event to get your 2010 edition ECRMC shirt. Get yours before they are gone! (We will be making another order once these are gone, so don’t get too worried). Renewal Time – The coming New Year signals the time to renew your membership dues. Use the renewal form on the next page to mail in your dues, or just find Brian at the next club event to keep your membership up-to-date! Page 11 of 14 Volume 20 Number 12 / Volume 21 Number 1 December 2009 / January 2010 Race Page News from the track by Paul “Shaker GT” Forakis The Shaker GT grudge match was held on Nov 15th at Emerald Coast Dragstrip. Keith Boudreau and I lined up our nearly identical mustangs to settle once and for all which shaker GT was the Baddest n Fastest. When the Christmas tree turned green we launched down the track side by side until the finish line. Nobody knew who won until we got the time slips showing I rolled over the line first; posting an e.t. of 8.77vs8.89. Keith ran consistent all day while I posted a best of 8.5 vs Keith’s 8.8 on our last run. Keith and I met with Bill “422 HP” Hall at Emerald Coast Dragway in Holt. Then Vinny showed up with John Powell in their GT and Shelby Mustangs for some asphalt action. First up was Bill. Although he didn't have his best run, he still dominated with an 8.26 run. He usually dips down in the 7's. Next up was John. He and his wife joined the club a few months ago and HE is NOT AFRAID of putting his Shelby through the paces at the track. John has even signed up for the 2010 Pony Wars in Valdosta with his GT-500. Kudos to John. More club members should really join us at the dragstrip.Ask any of us how much fun we had. But the real story is Vinny. He was there just to watch us but decided to run against John's Shelby and beat him. (Note- John's car has so much power it wouldn't hook up spinning the wheels half way down the track. ) Then he took on Keith and BEAT him. Remember, Vinny's stang is basically stock. At this point I was looking for an excuse to leave before he could challenge me. He threatened to hire a flying banner saying "Paul is chicken for not racing Vinny". If he beat me, Keith, and John with a stock Mustang, we could never live it down. So we lined them up and I defended my honor by half a second. Better luck next time Vinny.
