Getting to Know the Program | 7 Choose Your Tutorial Please choose the tutorial designed for your specific TFP Instant product: TFP Instant Architect...page 9 TFP Instant Kitchen & Bath...page 27 TFP Instant Deck & Patio...page 45 8 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Series TFP Instant Architect Quick Start Tutorial This quick, simple tutorial is a step-by-step guide through the basics of designing and viewing in TFP Instant Architect. Topics you will cover: • House Builder Wizard • Doors, Windows and Openings • Interior Design • Zooming • 3D Viewing • 3D Navigation Here is a 2D look at the design you will be creating: |9 Building a House One of the quickest and easiest ways to build a house in Instant Architect is to use the handy House Builder Wizard. In a few clicks you’ll have a basic structure containing exterior walls, a floor and a roof. You can then edit the design and add more to it. Let’s get started! 1 If the House Builder Wizard is not running, select Tools > House Builder. (Otherwise, go to step 3.) The following dialog appears: 2 Click Yes to proceed. (Since our project has nothing in it yet, we don’t have to worry about anything being erased.) 10 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Architect 3 Click Next. 4 Make sure that the Number of Floors is set to 1, and that the Concrete Slab option is selected in the Foundation Type area. 5 Click Next. 6 Since we’re just creating a very simple home, make sure the basic rectangular shape (with no garage) is selected. Building a House | 11 7 Click Next. 8 In the Length edit box, type 50’. In the Width edit box, type 25’. These are the overall dimensions of our model. 9 Click Next. 10 From the Building Configuration drop box, select Traditional. We will keep the Traditional material settings, but if you wanted to you could select different materials for each of the building’s elements. 11 Click Next. 12 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Architect 12 Click Finish. The model is created instantly in the center of your drawing area. 13 Click Close on the Next Steps screen. Building a House | 13 Note Tip You do not have to use the House Builder Wizard to build a house. If you prefer you can build one from scratch using Insert tools such as Walls and Roofs. If you make a mistake or change your mind about something, select Edit > Undo, or press CTRL + Z. You can undo until the last time you saved. To cancel out of a task or dialog, just press the ESC key on your keyboard. Zooming In Let’s zoom in on our model to make designing easier. 1 Select View > Zoom and Navigate > Zoom In, or click the Zoom In button on the Zoom and Navigate toolbar. Zoom In 2 Tip Zoom in a few more times to maximize the view. You can use the Zoom Realtime tool to zoom in and out quickly by just clicking and dragging your mouse. Hiding the Roof You can use the View Filter to hide just about anything in your design. Since we’re going to be drawing interior walls, let’s hide the roof to make things easier. 1 Select View > View Filter, or click the View Filter button on the View Control toolbar. 14 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Architect 2 In the View Filter dialog, click the eye icon next to the Roofs item. This closes the eye icon. Click the eye 3 Click OK. Adding Walls Now let’s add some interior walls to our design. We’re going to draw three of them. 1 Select Insert > Walls, or click the Walls button on the Building toolbar. Adding Walls | 15 2 In the catalog on the right side of the screen, select the Interior Walls category, then the 4” Wood Wall. Wall C 16 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Architect Wall B Wall A The following figure shows the walls that we will be inserting. Note that the roof has been hidden to make things more clear. 3 Wall A is a vertical wall positioned 12’ from the left exterior wall. Referring to the figure below, hover your cursor over the bottom exterior framed wall. When the left on-screen dimension reads approximately 12’, click inside the bottom wall to specify the start point of the first interior wall (P1 in the figure). X P2 P1 4 Move your mouse toward the top exterior wall, then click inside that wall to specify the wall’s endpoint (P2 in the figure). Wall A is inserted. 5 To insert Wall B, we’re going to enter a precise offset. Right-click in the drawing area and select Enter insertion offset. 6 Enter 15’, then press ENTER or click OK. Adding Walls | 17 7 Position your cursor in the bottom exterior wall, to the right of Wall A. The dimension automatically locks itself at 15’. 8 Click to select the wall’s start point, then click in the top exterior wall to select the end point. X Wall A P2 P1 9 To insert Wall C, right-click and select Enter insertion offset again, then specify an offset of 10’. 10 Position your pointer in the lower half of the left exterior wall. When you see the 10’ dimension, click to select the start point. Then, click inside Wall B to specify the end point. P1 P2 Wall B X 11 Right-click and select Finish. Your walls are complete. 18 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Architect Inserting a Fireplace You can insert many elements with a single mouse click. Furnishings, cabinets and plumbing fixtures automatically attach themselves to walls and other elements if you bring your pointer close to them. Let’s insert a fireplace in our drawing. 1 Select Insert > Interiors > HVAC Elements, or select the Interiors toolbar tab and click the HVAC Elements button. 2 In the catalog, select Mantel Fireplace 2 from the Heating category. The fireplace is attached to your cursor. It will intelligently align itself inside the wall. 3 Referring to the following figure, position the fireplace at the center of the right exterior wall, then click to insert it. 4 Right-click and select Finish. Saving the Project It’s a good idea to save your project frequently while working on it. 1 Select File > Save. 2 In the File name edit box, type Quick Start Tutorial. 3 Click Save. Inserting a Fireplace | 19 Inserting Doors Let’s insert a few doors in the model. A A B 1 Select Insert > Doors, or click the Doors button on the Building toolbar. 2 In the catalog, select the 30" Hinged Door in the Hinged category. The door is attached to your cursor. 3 Referring to the figure, position the first Door A in the wall where it is to be inserted. When the door is approximately 3” from the horizontal interior wall, click to insert the door. Don’t worry if the door is swinging the wrong way. We’ll flip it later. 4 Right-click and select Enter insertion Offset. Enter 3 in the dialog, then press ENTER or click OK. Insert the other Door A as shown in the figure. It will snap nicely into place 3” from the horizontal wall. 5 In the catalog, select the Entry category, then select the 32” Solid Wood Door w/ Sidelite. This is Door B in the figure. 6 Insert the door in the approximate center of the wall that is between the two vertical interior walls. While you are positioning the door, you may need to pull upward 20 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Architect slightly to get the door to swing to the inside of the model. 7 Right-click and select Finish. FLIPPING DOOR SWINGS The Flip Swing command lets you instantly flip a door’s hinge side. Let’s do this now. 1 Click on a door whose swing needs to be flipped (refer to the previous figure). 2 Right-click in the drawing area and select Flip Swing. The swing is flipped. If you need to flip another door’s swing (so the door matches the figure), go ahead and do so now. 3 Save the drawing. Inserting Windows We’re going to insert six windows in our model. 1 Select Insert > Windows, or click the Windows button on the Building toolbar. 2 In the catalog, select the Double Casement category, then select the 4’-9” x 4’ Double Casement Window. W W W W W W Inserting Windows | 21 3 Insert a window on either side of the fireplace, centering each window as best as possible between the fireplace and the end of the wall. 4 Before inserting the remaining four windows, right-click and select Center on Wall. (Note that this option is also available for doors and openings.) 5 Insert the remaining four windows. The Center on Wall option automatically centers each window in the receiving wall. 6 Right-click and select Finish. 7 Save the drawing. Inserting Openings An opening is simply a cutout in a wall, or a pass-through. You insert openings in the same way that you insert doors and windows. Let’s insert a couple of openings in the model. We’ll use the handy Center on wall option to center the openings on the wall. 1 Select Insert > Openings, or click the Openings button on the Building toolbar. 2 In the catalog, select the Arched (Doorways) category, then select the 6’ Arched top Doorway. 3 Move your cursor into the drawing area, then right-click and select Center on wall. 22 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Architect 4 Insert the two openings marked with an ‘X’ in the figure below. Each will be automatically centered on the wall. X X 5 Right-click and select Finish. Inserting a Ceiling We’re going to quickly insert a ceiling throughout the model. 1 Select Insert > Ceilings > Ceiling by Perimeter, or click the Ceilings button on the Building toolbar and select Ceiling by Perimeter. 2 In the catalog, select Stucco Ceiling 3 from the Standard category. 3 Click anywhere inside the model. A ceiling is inserted. Let’s turn the roof back on now. 4 Select View > View Filter, or click the View Filter button on the View Control toolbar. 5 In the View Filter dialog, click the eye icon next to the Roofs item. 6 Click OK. 7 Save the project. Our model is now complete! Inserting a Ceiling | 23 Viewing in 3D The 3D Camera View tool displays a 3D perspective view of your model which you can adjust by controlling the view’s camera. 1 Select View > 3D Camera View > 3D Perspective, or click the 3D Camera View button on the View Control toolbar and select 3D Perspective. In a 3D Perspective view, the scale of an element decreases according to its distance from the viewer, creating a more realistic view. Navigating in 3D Not only can you view in 3D, but you can also move around in 3D using a variety of realtime navigation tools. Let’s try a couple of them now. 1 Make sure you are still in the 3D Perspective camera view. 2 Select View > Zoom and Navigate > Walk Around, or click the Walk Around button on the Zoom and Navigate toolbar. 3 Click and drag to walk around. 24 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Architect 4 Select View > Zoom and Navigate > Fly Around, or click the Fly Around button on the Zoom and Navigate toolbar. 5 Click and drag to rotate the model in various directions. 6 Select View > Zoom and Navigate > Reset Camera, or click the Reset Camera button on the Zoom and Navigate toolbar. This resets the camera back to its original position. Switching Back to 2D Plan View When you are in a 3D view, you can switch back to 2D plan view at any time using the 2D Plan View tool. Let’s do this now using one of three available methods. • Click the 2D Plan View button on the View Control toolbar. Or, • Select View > 2D Plan View. Or, • Right-click in the drawing area and select 2D Plan View. Congratulations! You have successfully completed the TFP Instant Architect tutorial. Switching Back to 2D Plan View | 25 TFP Instant Kitchen & Bath Quick Start Tutorial This quick, simple tutorial is a step-by-step guide through the basics of designing and viewing in TFP Instant Kitchen & Bath. Topics you will cover: • Walls • Doors, Windows and Openings • Kitchen Builder Wizard • Editing • Zooming • 3D Viewing & Navigation We’re going to create the following kitchen design: | 27 Drawing Walls A kitchen or bath design begins with walls. You can draw the walls of the room you are designing, or draw your entire house. It’s up to you. To keep things simple, we’re just going to draw a single room that represents a 16’ x 14’ kitchen. 1 Select Insert > Walls, or click the Walls button on the Building toolbar. 2 In the catalog on the right side of the screen, select the Interior Walls category, and then the 4” Wood Wall. 3 Move your pointer into the drawing area, then select a point near the center of the drawing area. 28 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Kitchen & Bath 4 Without dragging, move your pointer to the right, and watch the on-screen dimensions as the wall stretches. When the dimension reads approximately 16’, click to select the wall’s endpoint. Don’t worry about getting an exact dimension. 5 Start moving your pointer upward. When the dimension reads approximately 14’, click to select the end point of the second wall. 6 Move your pointer to the left. When the dimension reads approximately 16’, click to select the wall’s end point. 7 Position your pointer over the original start point, and watch as your pointer snaps to this point. Drawing Walls | 29 Click the original start point to close the wall layout. 8 Right-click and select Finish. 9 Select File > Save. 10 In the Save As dialog, type Quick Start Tutorial in the File name edit box, then click Save. Zooming In Let’s zoom in on the room to make designing easier. 1 Select View > Zoom and Navigate > Zoom Window, or click the Zoom Window button on the Zoom and Navigate toolbar. Zoom Window 30 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Kitchen & Bath 2 Click and drag a selection window around the room, then release your mouse button. 1 2 Inserting a Door You can insert a variety of doors with pointand-click simplicity. Because doors are intelligent elements, they fit themselves into walls and become part of them automatically. However, you can edit doors separately from the walls that contain them. The following figure illustrates the doors we will be inserting: 1 Select Insert > Doors, or click the Doors button on the Building toolbar. 2 In the catalog, select the 30" Hinged Door in the Hinged category. The door is attached to your cursor. 3 Move your pointer into the drawing area, then right-click and select Enter insertion Offset. 4 Enter 3 in the dialog, then press ENTER or click OK. Inserting a Door | 31 5 Position the door as shown in the figure below. Notice how it snaps nicely into place 3” from the end of the wall. 6 Click to insert the door. 7 Right-click and select Finish. Inserting a Window Let’s insert a sliding window in the kitchen. 1 Select Insert > Windows, or click the Windows button on the Building toolbar. 2 In the catalog, scroll down and select the Sliding category, then select the 3’-11” x 2’-11” Sliding Window. 3 Move your pointer into the drawing area, then right-click and select Center on Wall. (Note that this option is also available for doors and openings.) 4 Position the window in the rear wall. The Center on Wall option automatically centers the window in the wall. 5 Click to insert the window. 6 Right-click and select Finish. 32 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Kitchen & Bath 7 Save the drawing. Inserting an Opening An opening is simply a cutout in a wall, or a pass-through. You insert openings in the same way that you insert doors and windows. Let’s insert an opening in the right wall. 1 Select Insert > Openings, or click the Openings button on the Building toolbar. 2 In the catalog, select the Arched (Doorways) category, then select the 6’ Arched top Doorway. 3 Move your cursor into the drawing area, then right-click and select Center on wall. Inserting an Opening | 33 4 Insert the opening in the center of the right wall. 5 Right-click and select Finish. Inserting a Ceiling We’re going to quickly insert a ceiling in the kitchen. 1 Select Insert > Ceilings > Ceiling by Perimeter, or click the Ceilings button on the Building toolbar and select Ceiling by Perimeter. 2 In the catalog, select Stucco Ceiling 3 from the Standard category. 3 Click anywhere inside the kitchen. A ceiling is inserted. 4 Save the project. 34 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Kitchen & Bath Building a Kitchen The handy Kitchen Builder Wizard builds a complete kitchen system for you that includes cabinets and appliances. All you have to do is make some design choices, and click in your drawing. It’s that easy! 1 Select Tools > Kitchen Builder. 2 Click Next on the welcome screen. 3 Make sure the L-Shape is selected, then click Next. Building a Kitchen | 35 4 Select the layout in the bottom left corner, then click Next. 5 Select whatever cabinet style you like, then click Next. 36 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Kitchen & Bath 6 Make sure the first rotation option is selected, then click Next. 7 Click Finish. The kitchen layout is attached to your cursor. 8 Referring to the following diagram, position the layout in the rear left corner of the kitchen, then click once to anchor it there. Dimensions are displayed that indicate the length and width of the layout. Building a Kitchen | 37 9 Move your cursor to the right to stretch the rear section of the layout until the dimension reads approximately 12’. 10 Click to finish. The following dialog appears: 38 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Kitchen & Bath 11 If you are satisfied with the kitchen’s placement, click Yes. If not, click No, then try inserting it again. Note You do not have to use the Kitchen Builder Wizard to build a kitchen. If you prefer you can insert individual cabinets, appliances, fixtures, etc. using the tools on the Insert menu. Everything is point-and-click, so it’s very easy! Deleting Cabinets The dashed line through the kitchen layout indicates the location of upper cabinets. We need to remove the upper cabinets that are above the sink area since there is a window there. 1 Click on one of the upper cabinets above the sink area. It highlights green. 2 Hold down your Shift key, then select the remaining five cabinets above the sink area. Now all six cabinets are selected. Deleting Cabinets | 39 3 Press Delete on your keyboard, or rightclick and select Delete. Viewing in 3D Now let’s take a look at our kitchen in 3D. The 3D Camera View tool displays a 3D perspective view of your model which you can adjust by controlling the view’s camera. The existing 3D Camera Views (3D Perspective and 3D Overview) display exterior views, which don’t suit our purposes. Let’s create a new 3D camera view specifically for the kitchen. 1 Select View > 3D Camera View > Place New Camera, or click the 3D Camera View button on the View Control toolbar and select Place New Camera. A camera is attached to your cursor. 40 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Kitchen & Bath 2 Referring to the figure below, click in the lower right corner of the kitchen to insert the camera, then click a point in the opposite diagonal corner to define the target. Target Camera The 3D view is created instantly. Also, you’ll notice that a camera called ‘Camera 1’ has been added to your 3D Camera View menu and toolbar. Viewing in 3D | 41 Using the Materials Paintbrush Using the Materials Paintbrush you can apply different textures and colors to just about any element in your design. All it takes is a simple mouse click. Let’s replace the hardwood flooring with ceramic tiles. 1 Select Edit > Materials Paintbrush, or click the Materials Paintbrush button on any tabbed toolbar. 2 In the Materials catalog on the right side of the screen, select the Tile - Generic category. 3 Select a tile that you like. 4 Click on the floor in your 3D view. 5 Right-click and select Finish. We now have a ceramic tile floor! 4 Select View > Zoom and Navigate > Fly Around, or click the Fly Around button on the Zoom and Navigate toolbar. 5 Click and drag to rotate the model in various directions. 42 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Kitchen & Bath 6 Select View > Zoom and Navigate > Reset Camera, or click the Reset Camera button on the Zoom and Navigate toolbar. You have successfully completed the TFP Instant Kitchen & Bath tutorial, which has taught you the basics of: • Drawing walls • Building a kitchen • Editing elements • Materials Paintbrush • 3D viewing and navigation With your new basic skill set you can start creating your own designs in Instant Kitchen & Bath. Have fun! Switching Back to 2D Plan View | 43 TFP Instant Deck & Patio Quick Start Tutorial This quick, simple tutorial is a step-by-step guide through the basics of designing and viewing in TFP Instant Deck & Patio. Topics you will cover: • Deck Builder Wizard • Garden Beds • Plants • Zooming • 3D Viewing • 3D Navigation Here is a look at the finished design in 3D: | 45 Building a Deck When you start Instant Deck & Patio, the Deck Builder Wizard launches automatically. This is a great way to get started and build a deck quickly. 1 If the Deck Builder Wizard is not currently running, select Tools > Deck Builder. 2 On the Welcome screen, click Next. 3 Select the Raised Level Construction category, and then the 2” x 6” Pressure Treated deck. 46 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Deck & Patio 4 Click Next. 5 With the square shape selected in the Shape area, change the “a” value to 16’, and the “b” value to 12’. This will create an 16’ x 12’ rectangular deck. 6 Click Next. Building a Deck | 47 7 Accept the default deck rotation and decking direction by clicking Next. 8 Click Finish. The deck is attached to your cursor. 9 Position the deck in the center of your drawing area, then click to insert it. 10 Select File > Save. 11 In the Save As dialog, type Quick Start Tutorial in the File name edit box, then click Save. Note You do not have to use the Deck Builder Wizard to build a deck. If you prefer you can use the Decks tool on the Insert > Landscape menu to draw a custom deck. Just point and click to define the shape and size you want. 48 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Deck & Patio Viewing in 3D Now let’s take a look at our design in 3D. The 3D Camera View tool displays a 3D perspective view of your model which you can adjust by controlling the view’s camera. 1 Tip Select View > 3D Camera View > 3D Perspective, or click the 3D Camera View button on the View Control toolbar and select 3D Perspective. Notice that the deck height seems low. That is because decks insert at the floor level defined for the current building location. By default, the current location is the Ground Floor location, whose floor level is 1’. To make your deck insert at a specific height, we recommend that you first create a building location specifically for your deck (Settings > Building Locations) and define the floor level that you want. Then make that location current in the building locations drop box (on the View Control toolbar). Current Location Viewing in 3D | 49 Editing the Height of a Deck Let’s raise the deck up a few feet. 1 While still in 3D view, click on the deck to select it. The deck outline becomes highlighted. 2 Right-click and select Properties. 3 Highlight the value in the Height above current location edit box, then type 4’ to replace that value. 4 Click OK. The deck is now higher. 50 | TurboFLOORPLAN Instant Deck & Patio Editing Deck Properties The deck’s footings are not deep enough. Let’s lower them down. Also, let’s add some lattice below the deck floor. 1 Click on the deck to select it if it is not selected. 2 Right-click and select Properties. 3 In the Decks dialog, change the Depth below ground level to 4’-6”. 4 Now select the Accessories tab in the dialog. 5 Click the Select button in the Skirting area.
