Box 1266 • Barrington, Illinois 60011 • (312) 382-5626 BAAC HISTORICAL TIME LINE 1976 February - Don Klein of Barrington Area Council of Government (BACOG) with encouragement from the Illinois Arts Council (IAC) invites Barrington to form an arts council to provide a positive cultural climate in the area March 10 - Flo Bash chairs a meeting at United Methodist Church inviting people to be a part of this new challenge 1977 May - Lawyer Frank Gagen helps establish BAAC as a not for profit 501(c)(3) organization with charter from the State of Illinois whose mission is to promote, encourage, and sponsor the presentation of programs and activities in the performing, literary, and visual arts. Flo Bash is elected first president. Fiscal year is established as Jan. 1 - Dec. 31. Begins with 150 members May 7 - International Folk Festival (dance event) is presented by American Field Service (AFS) and BAAC; chaired by Sam Oliver May 22 - Music in the Home presents first concert, Isralievitch Duo, at home of J. S. Keating. First chairman Kathy Umlauf. 80 subscribers October 23 - Donald Peck, flute, Melody Lord, piano, and Lola Rand, voice, perform in a Music in the Home concert at the J. G. Flannery home .
