GAUGE
Correct gauge is essential for proper size. Each Square
is designed to measure 7" before the edging is added.
Hook size given in instructions is merely a guide and
should never be used without first making a sample
Square in the yarn and hook specified. Then measure
it carefully. If your Square is smaller than specified, try
again with a larger size hook; if larger, try again with
a smaller size. Keep trying until you find the size that
will give you the specified gauge. DO NOT HESITATE
TO CHANGE HOOK SIZE TO OBTAIN CORRECT
GAUGE.
MARKERS
back
WHIPSTITCH
Place two Squares with wrong sides together.
Beginning in center sc of first corner, sew through
both pieces once to secure the beginning of the seam,
leaving an ample yarn end to weave in later. Working
through inside loop of each stitch of both Squares,
insert the needle from front to back through first
stitch and pull yarn through (Fig. 3), H insert the
needle from front to back through next stitch and
pull yarn through; repeat from H across to center sc
of next corner.
Fig. 3
In working the edging for each Square, it is necessary to
work with “right side” facing. When instructed to place
a marker to indicate the right side, loop a short piece
of yarn around any stitch on the side facing before the
work is turned.
BLOCKING
Due to the variety of pattern stitches used, some of the
Squares may benefit from being blocked to the proper
size. Place each Square on a clean terry towel over a flat
surface and shape (each Square should measure 8" after
edging is added); pin in place using rust-proof pins where
needed. Steam lightly and allow to dry completely.
