Leave the straight and narrow for walking.
This isn’t merely the new Porsche Cayman. This is a world unlocked. It’s finding
enlightenment and exhilaration in those twists in the road. Something we call the Code
of the Curve. It’s mid-engine balance, agility and precision. Combined with increased horsepower,
lighter weight, a wider stance and acceleration from 0 to 60 in a mere 4.7
seconds, it translates into adrenaline-fueled curve-carving that opens up a world of
possibilities. Unlock the Code of the Curve with a test drive. Porsche. There is
no substitute.

Keeping the clear
plastic window clean
and using a protectant
called Plexus which
also has UV inhibitors
and special additives
will extend the use and
life of the window.
This product was
developed for the
acrylic canopies of fighter jets and
does a great job of protecting the
clear plastic window as
well as the clear wind
stop in our cars.
If your clear plastic
window has minor
scratches and yellowing
it can be resored by useing a high quality plastic
polishing compound
such as Plastix" by
Meguiar's.
When retracting a soft top with a
plastic rear window, it is recommendable to stop the action mid
way. Get out of the car and manually adjust the fabric and plastic so
that no kinks or sharp angles are created when you continue the folding
operation. Even placing a soft towel
or similar between the folds of the plastic window will help maintain it’s
clarity, avoid scratches and prolong
overall life.
If the air temperature is under 55
ºF do NOT try to lower or raise the
top with a clear plastic window
unless you first warm it up so that it
becomes pliable. A hair dryer or
placing a piece of black plastic over
the window and leaving it under the
bright sun for a few minutes will
warm it up enough so that you can
fold or unfold it. Not following
these precautions may cause the
window to crack and split open
since the cold makes the plastic much
more brittle.
If this happens the only solution
is to replace, but since the window is
sewn in most of the time the complete top’s cover needs to be
replaced. There is an alternative
which some people have used which
is removing the material from the

In the Zone
Hello Zone 9
members,
Liz Shaw
Here we are at
the last month of 2013, winding
down a little but also planning for
2014! For me, I plan to attend
many of the same Region events
that I attended this year, but I also
want to get to some new (to me)
events in Utah and Texas next year.
Prior to attending Carrera
Region’s OktoberFiesta in Las
Cruces and Deming, I attended
one of the events of the 356
Registry’s West Coast Holiday in
Santa Fe. The concours on the
plaza was outstanding and it was
quite a sight to see over 200 356’s
parked on the plaza’s surrounding
streets, and some of the streets that
lead into the plaza. The cars
ranged from 1952 to 1966 (I think)
and they came from all over the
country – and in some cases, some
were shipped from overseas. It was
great to walk among all of the cars
4
and talk to the owners and spectators. Jim
Puckett and his team outdid themselves in
organizing and running such an excellent
event.
A week after the West Coast Holiday, I was
in Colorado for the Denver Marathon and I
was able to attend the services for the Pools,
in Colorado Springs. I still find it hard to
believe that they’re both gone from us, but
it was nice to talk with some of their family
members and PCA members on Saturday.
Later in October, I joined Carrera
Region for their OktoberFiesta, centered in
Las Cruces. Several of us went on a driving
tour on Saturday
morning to
Rockhound State
Park and Spring
Canyon State Park,
with the first stop at
Arroyo Seco
Raceway. It was
nice to see that Joe
and Nancy Warren
made the long trip
from Colorado to
join us! The tour
ended back at
Arroyo Seco, where
we joined everyone
else for lunch.
Afterward, some of the tour people drove
some sessions of the DE at the track.
Dinner that night was at Hotel Encanto
(event host hotel) and, as always, lots of
valuable door prizes were handed out! I
won a nice black hat with the Porsche crest
on it.
On Sunday morning, we had autocross
practice sessions at the track, lunch, and
then the timed runs were in the afternoon.
Definitely a fun weekend for everyone and
next year’s OktoberFiesta is already on my
calendar!

Barely a week later, I flew to Salt Lake
City on November 2nd and joined
InterMountain Region for a dinner at the
Bohemian Brewery and Grill in Midvale
(about 15 miles from downtown Salt Lake).
Another fine dinner with Club members
and more door prizes! I wasn’t lucky this
time but several people walked away with
nice Porsche Design stuff, courtesy of Ken
Garff Porsche in Utah.
For next month’s report, I’ll have info
about the Tech Tactics at the PCNA Training
facility in Ontario, CA. I’m really looking
forward to this event, as I’ve never been to
a Tech Tactics. I’ll also have info on the
many events I’ll be attending in December:
holiday parties at 4 of Zone 9’s regions!

top’s frame and taking it to a yachting center that repairs marine canvas
and having them cut out the old and
sew in a new piece in its place.
There are also new alternatives
for the older cabs with the flexible
plastic windows. Several aftermarket manufacturers offer tops with a
bonded glass window that can be
installed onto the older top’s frames.
These windows are a bit smaller than
the original plastic window, and they
are somewhat more cumbersome for
engine access in the case of the
Boxsters, but they offer defrosting
elements within the glass to quickly
clear fog and melt ice and snow.
Some of these aftermarket suppliers
also offer the same OEM fabrics from
Haartz on their products so you can
have the same OEM quality even on
a replacement top.

behind, well, that wide rear end is
simply irresistible. Our love affair
with Jennifer began in January 2013,
when we met her by chance at
Porsche of Colorado Springs. We
knew immediately that this was not
going to be a one night stand, but the
beginning of a long term relationship. The fact she has two pedals
rather than the usual three got the
heart pumping. We were in love!
That was January. Skip forward
to June 10, 2013. The Giffords retired
to spend more time with Jennifer,
and she was looking even better than
when we first met. It was time to
expose this threesome to the world.
We knew this unusual relationship,
the threesome, would be welcomed
and accepted in California and the
West Coast, so off we went. Since
this was like a second honeymoon,
only now there were three of us, we
decided to take it easy the first day
and so, after leaving Pueblo West, we
headed to Vail and the Tivoli Lodge.
Even though Vail Mountain was
clearly in view from our window, the
Tivoli Lodge had an old world charm
that will bring us back again someday. Since it is only a short ten
minute walk to Vail Village, the rest
the first day was spent visiting the shops.
Our next stop was Lake Tahoe,
Nevada and its casinos and spectacular scenery. But first we had to get
there, so we spent the night of Day 2
in Salt Lake City and headed out the
morning of Day 3 for Lake Tahoe.
No stops except for gas and food.
This part of Western Utah (the
Bonneville Salt Flats) and Northern
Nevada is bleak and dusty. Late that
afternoon we left Carson City, home
of HBO’s show, “Bunny Ranch.” Yup,

we headed up the mountain. The road to Lake
Tahoe, US Highway 50, is four lanes of pure
speed!! Winding road, mountain driving? No
matter; it seemed to be a matter of who can get
to Tahoe first. Everyone is going flat out and
passing a Porsche, well, that would be even
sweeter. We stayed at Harrah’s, spending the
evenings in the casinos but walking
around the town during the day and
visiting Lake Tahoe’s upscale shops.
After leaving 90+ degree temperatures
in Pueblo West, the mid 60’s in the
high Sierra air felt very good. But the
best part? We left Lake Tahoe richer
that when we arrived!
Day 5 and we’re off to Sonoma
and Wine Country. We thought we
were staying in the town of Sonoma
but after an hour of driving two country roads, realized our Garvin Nuvi
GPS, we call her Nuvi for short, was
taking us to our reservation at the
Doubetree Hotel in Sonoma County,
(“recalculating” for Nuvi owners).
No matter, the Doubletree of Sonoma
Wine Country has a great bar and features local wines. Day 6 was spent visiting
Wine Country. There are several tours that
will pick up tourists at their hotels and take its
guests to, in our case, four small wineries
where the wines from that winery can be sampled. We have never been to Tuscany, but we
feel it must look like Sonoma County: low,
rolling hills, golden meadows, Tuscan style villas and grapes, lots of grapes. The vintners

fish and chips of our trip.
We were welcomed on Day 8 by a dense
fog rolling in from the ocean. We stopped to
get gas before leaving Brookings and the attendant told us the fog was not unusual (the
“attendant,” is mandatory; Oregon requires its
gas stations to be full service, there is no self
serve). The fog made driving interesting,
remember “cliff side” in the previous paragraph? The road is narrow, and is a favorite
tour route for bicyclists. Narrow road, fog,
bicyclists and a tour bus every now and then;
the little car was in its element. What does that
ad say, “What happens in the curve, stays in
the curve?” The destination on Day 8 was
Cannon Beach, Oregon. We never learned
how the town got its name but suspect it refers
to the sound of thunder the surf makes as it
crashes on the shore. The broad beach in front
of town is sand and everyone and everything
it seems, are on that beach. It was in Cannon
Beach that we got what Northwesterners refer
to as “liquid sunshine,” or rain. It would not
be the last time we would have rain on the
trip. Given the drought at home, the rain felt

take time to talk about the varieties of wine,
how it goes from grape to bottle. For wine
lovers like us, Sonoma was a day in paradise.
By the way, as you would expect in Wine
Country, the food is amazing; of course,
Jennifer too had to have the most expensive
“food” California had to offer!
Day 7 and the goal is the Pacific Coast of
California and Oregon. But before hitting the
Coast at Eureka, California, the road took us
through the magnificent Redwood Forests of
Northern, CA. Northern California gets more
moisture than other parts of the state, the
forests are thick and the trees are big, really
big. Having lived in the Northwest for 27
years, it is a homecoming of sorts for us. At
Eureka, we turned north on Hwy 101, the
Pacific Coastal Highway. Highway 101 meanders back and forth, alternating between forest
and ocean. It is the ocean views and the narrow, windy cliff side drive that makes this
highway so famous. That night was spent in
the charming oceanfront town of Brookings
Oregon. It is in Brookings, at a no-frills restaurant above the harbor that we taste the best

great and there were no complaints.
Day 9 and we were headed to
The Dalles, Oregon which is located
in the Columbia River Gorge and on
to Stonehenge. No, not the
Stonehenge in England, but the
Stonehenge located on the
Washington side the of the Columbia
River, approximately twenty miles
upriver from The Dalles. It is an
exact replica of what archeologists
think the original Stonehenge looked
like when it was first built. The
Washington Stonehenge was built to
honor soldiers from Klickitat County
in Washington who died in WWI.
We took a picture of the Porsche in
front of Stonehenge with the text,
“Rough crossing, but made it ok,”
and texted it to a few friends. Funny,
we did not get any replies!
We had lived five years in Coeur
d’Alene, Idaho (the other twenty-two
years in the Northwest were spent in
Ketchikan, Alaska and Juneau,
Alaska) and Coeur d’Alene was our
next stop. But first, a night at the
Davenport Hotel in Spokane,
Washington. We love to travel, have
spent many nights in hotels and inns,
but the Davenport remains our
favorite. Located in downtown
Spokane, it was purchased and renovated several years ago. Many millions of dollars later the Davenport is
our favorite because it is pure luxury; the service is exceptional, shopping and great food are within walking distance. Try the Steam Plant
Grill in the old power plant. Diners
are surrounded by the original
equipment. Just look for the smoke
stack downtown. Leaving Spokane,
we took a short drive to Sandpoint,
Idaho which is located on beautiful
Lake Ponderay. Sandpoint is the
home of Coldwater Creek, a company well known to many shoppers.
Lake Ponderay is surrounded by
mountains, is over a 1,000 feet deep
in places and offers some of the best
fishing in the Northwest. Several
local tour companies also offer lake
cruises.

tesy of John Oliphint, and headed south.
Where was I, you might wonder? Well, my
job had me traveling to Hollyweird that
week, so as they headed south, I went west,
and then met them the next night down in
Austin.
In the continuing
adventure of seeing where this
slippery slope of
Chris Lennon
Porsche ownership and racing
can go, I had the privilege of racing
in the United States Vintage Racing
National Championships. This
was held on the year-old Circuit of
the Americas (COTA), in Austin,
TX, just three weeks prior to the
2013 United States F1 Grand Prix
there.
First off, if you haven’t visited
COTA, you might want to add it to
your bucket list.
Whether driving
on it, or spectating, it has quickly
earned a reputation as one of the
world’s premier
tracks. The care
and attention to
detail paid in its
construction is
evident in every
detail. The facility is vast, but so
well laid out that most of the circuit is visible from a couple of key
vantage points (Turns 1 and 12).
With the support of European
Performance Specialists and
Porsche of Colorado Springs, I
responded to the invitation in my
inbox, and set about planning for
the adventure. The track is about a
15 hour drive from Colorado
Springs, and I had no trouble
enrolling a crew to get the car
there, with Loren Southard, Dave
Liddle, John Duclos, and my everunderstanding and patient wife,
Kathleen, all raising their hands
immediately. They loaded up our
Cayenne, loaded the car on the
trailer, along with a pit bike, cour-

Upon arrival, it was clear the scale of this
event. Five hundred and fifty cars were
entered, and the “paddock” spilled into
three large parking lots. Many came in
huge haulers, but it was good to see that we
weren’t the only ones with a “grass roots”
setup with our open trailer.

fastest race group. Looking to my right, I
saw an Audi R10, Porsche RS Spyder, and a
host of NASCAR and LeMans prototype
cars. A modest-looking 993 race car pulled
up behind me, and I decided to introduce
myself. Even this modest-looking car had a
LeMans history! Yikes.
In such fast company, I decided I had
better not mess around. My first time on
track, I warmed the tires quickly, passed a
Cup Car, and then at about 140mph, saw a

big cloud of smoke as I downshifted and
applied the brakes. I had a lot of trouble
getting the car slowed in time for the turn,
and then proceeded to go through the next
turn sideways. It was then that I thought
that maybe the smoke wasn’t just smoke
from locking up cold tires. After pulling in,
we discovered that oil had gone all over the
engine (and rear tires) from a pop off valve.
A good lesson in car control when that happens.
We spent a great deal of time cleaning all
the oil off of places it shouldn’t be, and
replaced the valve that seemed to be the
culprit. When we headed out for the next
practice session, it ended in another cloud
of oil-filled smoke, and our weekend was
essentially over.
The drive home went well, avoiding critters
like a large raccoon and armadillo, who
decided to cross the road in front of us. As
much as I know that swerving to avoid things
with a trailer is a bad idea, I’m just too much
of a humanitarian to not make an effort.
Porsche of Colorado Springs, who
made this adventure possible!
Remember – this is a track you
should make an effort to get to, if
you can!

We arrived safely back in Colorado

grand adventure, and like all events, the
social aspects outshone the mechanical difficulties we
encountered.

The good news was that this gave us a
bunch of time to check out all the other
amazing race cars there, and watch a whole
host of races. My personal favorite was a

incredible cars racing there that it was really tough to pick one out. We even ran into

Last month we
had a look at
“Jeeps” or rather Jeep type vehicles that came from the Porsche
drawing boards. If you subscribe
to virtually any car magazine
you will often see what others
have done to customize their
Porsches—but usually mods that
either provide some bling or
make them go faster. This month
though we will show you some
mods that don’t quite fit in with
what you may have seen in the
past but are one-offs that seem a
little far out.
So what follows is a photo collage of some “different”
Porsches. Note that they are all
front engine—with the exception
of the one 356. I could not find
anything done on a 911! There is
one mod that has been done by
the Porsche factory—do you
know which one?

d’Alene. “Coeur d’Alene,” just mention this town’s name and people
who have been there say, “Ahh,
I love Coeur d’Alene!” The city is
located on Lake Coeur d’Alene
which some rank as the 5th most
beautiful lake in the world. Coeur
d’Alene also boasts world class golf
courses, the Coeur d’Alene Resort
course and its floating green being
the best known. But we were there
to see friends and introduce Jennifer
to them. To say she was a hit would
be an understatement! She was the
center of conversation and we, an
afterthought.
We said goodbye to our friends
Monday morning, on Day 15, and
turned the little car toward Jackson,
Wyoming. It was raining hard when
we crossed into Montana and our
return to Mountain Time. We took
I-90 to Butte and then went South on
I-15. Just west of Rexburg, Idaho, we
turned left from I-15 onto ID 33
through the town of Driggs, Idaho
and over Teton Pass. We have now
seen the Tetons from both sides and
we all agreed they are even more
beautiful from the Idaho side. Teton
Pass is not for the faint of heart, but
people from Driggs who work in
Jackson make that twenty mile trip
every day and we were in a Porsche.
No problem, but maybe a little
sweat. Jackson is Jackson; nothing
further to say, except a stop at the
Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is a
must. Try out the saddles, which
serve as bar stools. How much is a
bar which is inlaid with silver dollars from one end to the other really
worth?
Time to go home. Our trip was
just short of three weeks and 4,000
miles. Jennifer seemed to enjoy it as
much as we did, or at least we
thought so as she took us across the
deserted highways of Wyoming. Oh,
yes, did I mention that Jennifer is a

PRESIDENT’S REMARKS:
President Tom Kautz is pleased with the
turnout at board meetings and events. It is
exciting to see new participants! A number
of good ideas have been proposed for next
year, such as informal “cars and coffee” gettogethers, mini tours and lower key things
to encouarage involvement among women
club members.
FUTURE EVENTS:
Joint Board Meeting with RMR: This planning & scheduling meeting has been set for
Saturday, November 2, at 9:00 am. Because
we received very short notice about this
meeting only a few of our board members
are available to attend. Our event dates will
be pre-loaded onto the master schedule and
copies will be distributed at the meeting.
We will suggest that the meeting next year
be held earlier in the fall.
Christmas Party – 12/8: Jack Ferguson
announced that there will be music and
dancing , a slide show commemorating the
events of the past year and a visit from
Santa! Attendees are being asked to bring
an unwrapped gift for children ages 3-15.
Tech Talk – (2/15?): A talk at GT Racing
about body panels will be coupled with a
display of the steps in the painting process.
Zone 9 Meeting in 2014: The date needs to
be set. Zone Rep Liz Shaw will be consulted.
PAST EVENT WRAP UP:
“La Hunting the Perfect Apex” Drivers Ed
at La Junta– 10/5-10/6: Co-chairmen
Robert Yen and Greg Sirochman reported
that 24 registrants participated on both days
and additional cars signed up for one day.
Discussion was held about scheduling this
event earlier in the year in 2014 to encourage greater attendance. The Saturday
night meal was described as a “ton of fun”.
Birthdays were celebrated …with cake!
October Membership Social & Elections at
The Edelweiss: All continuing board members retained their positions and all ByLaws
revisions were approved.
Volunteer Appreciation Party: Tom gave a
special “thank you” to Chris and Kathleen
Lennon for hosting the party and to Tim
Hoiles for his financial support!
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Advertising/Sponsorships: Dwight Kasten
reported that all advertising revenue has
been collected except for one outstanding
account. There was discussion about
adjusting the number of pages in the
newsletter in accordance with the number
of advertisers.
Treasury: Door Prize Chairman Jim
Sorensen commented that he has been successful in balancing the expenditures for
door prizes with the income available for
their acquisition.
Newsletter: Many thanks to Phyllis
Godfredson for continuing to produce a
top-rate newsletter. Phyllis recommended
that we continue to print the announcements for membership socials in color on
the top part of the inside back cover and
make the bottom part of that color page
available to advertisers.
Membership: Jack Ferguson pointed out
that membership has been increasing
monthly. Several members have transferred
to our club from RMR. Our total now is 322
primary members and 236 affiliate members
for a total of 558
Membership Socials: There will be no
Wednesday Socials in November or
December.
Website: No report
Facebook: Denise Jordan is being added as
an administrator. A question was raised
about why we are not using a Facebook
“Group” and Joel Godfredson explained
that the webmaster told him that groups are
being phased out.
Porsche of Colorado Springs Liaison: Joel
will coordinate with POCS to make plans
for working with them in 2014.
OLD BUSINESS:
Gunnison Car Show: John Duclos reported
that Gary Schondeck has offered to arrange
a Sunday mini-tour in conjunction with the
2014 Show August 15-17. About 250 cars
are expected for the Show, primarily muscle cars. Festivities include a live band, a
Poker Run and a breakfast run to Crested
Butte. Proceeds benefit charity.
Autocross & DE Timing Equipment: Joel
Godfredson has done research regarding
timing equipment and recommends that we
use a tablet computer to do our timing. An
app is available that uses GPS for accuracy
and captures information electronically.
NEW BUSINESS:
Newsletter Mailing Rates: In response to
an inquiry from an out-of-state nonmember, it was determined that the price for
mailing the newsletter would be $20/year.
DE
Attendance
Trends:
Chris Lennon
analyzed historical attendance data
for La Junta
and suggested that the
DE at this
location be
scheduled
earlier in the
year to
achieve better
attendance.
Another suggestion is
that we put
together a low-key event, perhaps
in March, to educate more people
about DEs and dispel common
myths.
The December Board Meeting will
be held Tuesday, November 26,
2013, at Texas T-Bone Steakhouse.
Respectfully submitted,
CHERYL PIXLEY,
SECRETARY, ALPINE MOUNTAIN REGION,

Soft Top
Convertibles
by Pedro P. Bonilla (GCR PCA)
2011 issue of Die Porsche Kassette
Being able to drop the top and
drive “al fresco” is one of the
greatest feelings in owning a
Porsche cabriolet. The experience
of sun and wind in your face,
together with the enhanced sounds
from your engine and the aromas
of the countryside or of the
exhaust and tire smoke of the car
in front of you at the track, make
owning and driving these open top
cars very special.
The other side of the coin is
that these cars also offer most of
the coupe’s benefits when the
weather or other conditions dictate
the need for top up. So cab owners
have the best of both worlds.
As you know, the material used
on the Porsche cabriolets is a type
of canvas, but not all canvas is the
same. The Haartz Corporation
supplies the majority of all of the
auto manufacturers with close to
30 different canvas and vinyl materials, each with different specs. The
Porsche Boxster and Carrera
Cabriolets use, as an OEM material, the special Sonnenland A5.0
fabric from Haartz.
This is an acoustically-
Tech Tip: Soft Tops

enhanced, three-ply composite made of a
surface singed acrylic twill weave outer fabric, a rubber or elastomer inner layer and a
polyester (cloth) lining fabric. This unique
construction of the material dramatically
enhances in-cabin comfort when the top is
up by reducing noise levels and providing sound
attenuation over standard
canvas material aside
from the obvious which is
protection from the elements and allowing the
HVAC system to operate
normally.
Porsche engineers
have worked to fine tune
the acoustic properties of
the cabriolets to provide maximum comfort
inside the cabin with the soft top in the up
position. In conjunction with the Haartz
topping material a noise deadening
acoustical padding is crafted to compliment
the properties of the
top’s material. This
combination of materials
provides passengers with
state-of the-art
comfort.
But, in order to enjoy
for many years the
added perks of the convertibles, there are a few
things that you, as an owner, need do that
coupe owners don’t.
A unique set of challenges comes with
your special drop- top. The material from
which the top is made as well as the clear
plastic window are far more delicate and
vulnerable to the elements and in particular,
to UV radiation than the rest of the painted
surfaces of the car.
The best thing you can do for a brand new
soft top is to protect it on day one, when it’s
still clean and free of contaminants. The
day you bring it home you should treat it
with a good UV inhibiting product, paying
special attention to its weakest part, the
stitching. The next best thing is to do it now.
Convertible tops should never be stored
down when the material is wet. The fabric
does not promote mildew growth on it’s
own, but mildew can develop on dirt and
grime when not removed. This is more
important for warm, humid and dark
environments.
When dust and
dirt settle into the
material’s weave, if
left, over time will
start to break down
the fabric acting as
sandpaper and
cutting into the
weave itself.
Photos from the Technolab.
When cleaning your soft
top, do NOT
use detergent or
other harsh
chemicals.
There are several products
made specifically for cleaning
soft tops, and one in particular, Ragg Topp
is endorsed by Haartz and most convertible
owners. Ragg Topp offers two basic products: a cleaner and a protectant.
To clean the top, do so in the shade or
partial shade. If there are bird or tree droppings on the canvas, first vacuum with a
soft brush attachment and then pre-soak
the affected area with water. This will soften the deposits. Many times a strong water
stream is all that’s needed in order to get
most of the dirt and grime off the top.
When the deposits are tougher, you can
spray the cleaner evenly over the complete
soft top, letting it soak in from 2 to 20 minutes depending on how soiled it is, and
then scrubbing lightly with a soft-bristle
brush and finally rinsing with running
water until the runoff is clear and no more
cleaner remains on the material.
Washing with a mild soap, such as
Ivory or Lux is also a safe alternative to the
Ragg Topp cleaner, but not as effective.
Once the top is completely dry, it
should be followed up with several coats of
Ragg Topp Protectant which will waterproof the fabric and filter out most of the
damaging UV rays from the sun. This protectant will make water bead on the canvas
and will help maintain the top’s color over
the years with minimum fading.
As of 2003 all of Porsche’s cabs now
come with a glass window that requires no
more maintenance than any other glass
window, but prior to that year the top’s
rear window was made of a flexible
polyvinyl material which was sewn into
the canvas allowing it to fold on itself. This
clear material tends to fog and scratch and
becomes the biggest complaint from cab
owners. The fogging seen on polyvinyl
windows happens when the plasticizers in
the material evaporate due to exposure to
UV light and heat from the sun. These
plasticizers are what keep the plastic windows flexible and soft. So, the best way to
prolong the clarity and flexibility of the
clear plastic window is to keep the sun off
the material as much as possible.
Whenever the car is stored outside, at least
the clear plastic window if not the complete
top or car should be protected with a cover.
