President’s Report
The NSW CFA has had a lot happening since June. As you are all aware, NSW CFA in conjunction with CCI hosted the
CCCA National on the weekend of 11/12 July 2015 and am sure I am not the only one to say the show was fantastic
and ran like clockwork. As you can all imagine running a National Show is a big task and I would like to thank all
those members of the planning committee, especially Debbie Cameron, the show manager ably assisted by
Stephanie Tscherne and Ian Dunn together with other NSW CFA members and CCCA affiliates who volunteered for
card writing, trophies, stewards, floor co-ordinators and anyone who assisted with the promotion and running of this
show. There are so many who contributed to making this show such a great event but I can not forget to mention
my brother and sister-in-law Stephen and Suzette Greentree who made numerous trips back and forth to the airport
plus various other voluntary things to have this show run so smoothly. All of the visiting judges enjoyed the
weekend and expressed their thanks for asking them to be part of this great show.
I must also mention the sponsorship of this show by Purina and Oz-Pet who are both so generous with their support
of the CCCA National shows. Thank You.
Best wishes to the Feline Association of South Australia on hosting the CCCA National in 2016.
I am sure most members are aware of the Inquiry into Companion Animal Breeding Practises in NSW which NSW CFA
were asked to be part of and Maureen Norberry attended the public hearing on the 15 July 2015 on behalf of the
Association and the recommendations are now available at this link:
http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/prod/parlment/committee.nsf/0/760AAB0E156DDF9DCA257EAE00000B7E?ope
n&refnavid=CO3_1.
Despite our efforts, the recommendations would impact greatly on our members but we are still endeavouring to
continue being part of any decision making so members are being represented by NSW CFA. I would like to thank
Maureen Norberry and Debbie Cameron for the work they have contributed towards this inquiry on behalf of the
Association and we have also now established a compliance subcommittee to endeavour to assist members with
good breeding practises etc.
In August we held our annual Fundraising Show and a big thanks to Garry Stephens for one again taking on the show
manager’s job as well as Sue Thomas as show secretary. Jennifer from Canidae and Pam from Oz-Pet attended the
show and I would like to thank Canidae and Oz-Pet for being major sponsors of this yearly fundraising show. Our
other sponsors Di-vetelact, Dogtainers, Orivet and Vebo Pet Supplies also contributed to our prizes for the show and
am sure all those attended had a great day out with our fellow “cat show exhibitors”.
You will recall that nominations for the Management Committee closed at the end of August and as their were only
four (4) nominations, it will not be necessary to have a ballot this year.
You will notice in this online edition of the journal the Annual General Meeting and General Meeting of the NSW CFA
will be held on Tuesday 27 October 2015 at 7.30 pm at the Dogs NSW Complex in the Sec Hut which is right outside
the courtyard of the back door of the Dogs NSW office so I hope that members will attend.
The 2016 Show Calendar is now finalised and is on our website and has been sent to all affiliates.
The practical examination for the Group 1 Judges Course was held in August and I am pleased to confirm that Sandra
Dukes, Fiona Mangan and Christine Tomlinson all passed their exams and the Management Committee has recently
granted them Probationary Group 1 Judges licences. I wish them all well with their future judging but would like to
thank Wendy Hamilton for taking on the role as Chair of this course together with Debbie Cameron, Val Hurry and
the other judges and members who assisted with this course.

Group 1 Judges Course
On behalf of the Panel of the NSWCFA Group 1 Judges Training course, I am pleased to announce the
successful completion of the training component for our candidates.
The candidates, Fiona Mangan, Sandra Dukes and Christine Tomlinson have all passed through the
18 month course of lectures and breed examinations to the final practical examination and have
now been granted Probationary Group 1 Judges licenses. Of special note, Fiona Mangan has now
passed her final study component for eligibility to All Breeds judge, not a small achievement.
I hope all our members join me in congratulating them and we look forward to seeing them on the
show floor for their probationary assignments. I ask our affiliated clubs to please think of them when
deciding on your judging invitations for next year. These Probationary judges need our support and
positive enthusiasm to get through 10 assignments to pass through to Full Judges Panel status.
On behalf of the panel I wish to thank all those who helped with the course as it only happens with
the members support and participation. Members kindly brought their cats to our lectures for
practical sessions and donated their weekends to help out.
As Chair of the panel, I wish to personally thank the Panel members, Debbie Cameron and Val Hurry.
It requires a lot of time and effort to run a Judges Training Course. I also thank Sharon Hodge for her
participation and help with lectures.
Regards
Wendy Hamilton

Cats are one of, if not the most, popular pet in the world.
There are over 500 million domestic cats in the world.
Cats and humans have been associated for nearly 10000 years.
Cats conserve energy by sleeping for an average of 13 to14 hours a day.
Cats have flexible bodies and teeth adapted for hunting small animals such as mice and rats.
A group of cats is called a clowder, a male cat is called a tom, a female cat is called a molly or queen
while young cats are called kittens.
Domestic cats usually weigh around 4 kilograms (8 lb 13 oz) to 5 kilograms (11 lb 0 oz).
The heaviest domestic cat on record is 21.297 kilograms (46 lb 15.2 oz).
Cats can be lethal hunters and very sneaky, when they walk their back paws step almost exactly in
the same place as the front paws did beforehand, this keeps noise to a minimum and limits visible
tracks.
Cats have powerful night vision, allowing them to see at light levels six times lower than what a
human needs in order to see.
Cats also have excellent hearing and a powerful sense of smell.
Older cats can at times act aggressively towards kittens.
Domestic cats love to play, this is especially true with kittens who love to chase toys and play fight.
Play fighting among kittens may be a way for them to practice and learn skills for hunting and
fighting.
On average cats live for around 12 to 15 years.
Cats spend a large amount of time licking their coats to keep them clean.
Feral cats are often seen as pests and threats to native animals.
Disappearing Magical Fairies
Have you ever wondered how a Cat Show is put together?
Let me enlighten you. On the day or days before the show a FEW fairies lug heavy tables, cover
them in white paper and place buntings so that the exhibitors can see who the main sponsors are
and then place them in bays, then lift cages and place them in the designated place. Cages are
then put together with pipe cleaners to secure tops and sides and then place cage numbers.
Sometimes exhibitors show up (when things are almost done) to put up their cages and curtains
with a cheery “See you in the morning!”
Next morning, the fairies are there bright and early to greet and help incoming exhibitors.
After the show comes the good part, pulling it all down! Of course, it would be a help if exhibitors
could spend 15-30 minutes helping, even if they only take the cage numbers off and maybe untie
pipe cleaners and fold the cage up before they take off with their precious felines and prizes.
This fairy was asked after a show “Where have you been?”. Reply “helping take down the show”.
Reply “WHY?”
But of course, this is all a pipe dream for the fast disappearing magical fairies.
Thankyou from a Magical Fairy

In Memory of Raisa
Raisa was born in Macksville on 12th August 1999 and came to live with me on a farm out of Macksville
in October that same year. She had a wonderful and quite life on the farm, although she did go to a few
Cat Shows. She got all her titles. She was in the Spay Class. She wasn’t a very good traveller.
Then in April 2010 she was diagnosed with bone cancer in her left back leg. In May her leg was amputated.
That was a very traumatic operation for her. She had
to learn to walk on 3 legs at 10 years old! In 2011 she
became a Diabetic. She was on Insulin from then till
she passed, which was on the 9th January 2015. She
was 15 years and 5 months. Unfortunately she got
cancer again. Our Vets did everything they could for
her and I thank Dr. Kim for looking after and treating
her all her life, also to Drs. Rod and Karin and to the
lovely nurses Robyn, Michelle, Courtney and others
(not sure of their names) at Macksville Veterinary
Clinic who always took very good care of my beautiful
Russian Blue, Raisa. I miss her so much.

Notice to Advertisers
The Trade Practices Act 1974 came into force on October 1st 1974.
It is the advertiser’s responsibility to ensure advertisements submitted for publication comply with the Act and
that the provisions of the Act are strictly complied with. In cases of doubt, advertisers are asked to seek legal
advice before submitting advertising material.
The Editorial Committee reserves the right to withhold publication of any material whatsoever. Views and
opinions expressed in this journal are those of the correspondents and contributors concerned and are not
necessarily those of the Editorial Committee, printers or publishers. Names and addresses of correspondents
may be withdrawn from publication on request but must be supplied to the Editor.
Disputes
From time to time, members refer matters to the NSW Cat Fanciers Association Inc (NSW CFA) when it is not
appropriate.
For example, disputes between members in relation to the sale of cats are usually private matters to be
determined by the contractual arrangements between members. Disputes on such matters should be resolved
by the courts, not by NSWCFA.
Members are requested to refrain from referring matters to NSW CFA which are a private or domestic matter
or which should be properly resolved by the Courts.
Scale of Fees (from January 2014
Members should be aware that the Consumer Claims Tribunal is available to resolve many disputes in the
relation to the supply of goods to a consumer and NSWCFA recommends that matters that fall within the
jurisdiction of that Tribunal and which cannot be resolved personally should be referred to that Tribunal.
