SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2013 NEW THIS FALL! Friday Night At The Movies Lego Club For ‘Tweens The library’s first Friday Night Movie will be shown on September 27 at 7:30pm. Your votes will determine which of this summer’s hits will be shown: Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into the Darkness, or World War Z...all PG-13 movies. Cast your vote online at: www.goldcoastlibrary.org/ services/movies or vote in person at the library. Voting ends September 20. The Friday Night Movie for October will be screened on October 18. Notable Nonfiction Book Discussion Group Tues., Oct. 1 7pm Anne Perry and The Murder of the Century by Peter Graham Join librarian trainee Deborah Kinirons for a lively discussion of this contemporary detective story. Popular mystery writer Anne Perry and her friend committed an unspeakable crime as teenagers: the murder of her friend’s mother. The crime became the basis for the movie Heavenly Creatures (1994), starring Kate Winslet. Read the book, or watch the movie...or both. Then come share your thoughts! Disney Digital Books have Arrived at the Gold Coast Public Library Attention Disney Fans! Mickey, Donald, Ariel and the rest of the gang are now available through a collection of Disney Digital Books via the Library’s website! This collection features interactive, animated books accessible through your web browser. Just go to ‘E-books and more” on the Library’s website, and click the Disney Digital Books graphic to browse the collection. The Disney Online Books are browser based and can be enjoyed on a Windows or Mac computer. Titles offer interactive features to enhance the user experience such as a ‘Magic Pen’ that pronounces words with just one click, and the ability to look up word definitions. Don’t forget that the Library provides access to more than 30,000 e-books and audiobooks which can be enjoyed on computers, smart phones, tablets and can be transferred to compatible e-book readers! You will find it fun and relaxing. All the sewing in class is done by hand. Before you attend the first class, have an idea of the kind of quilt you would like to make: for example, a baby quilt, lap quilt, or wall hanging. The first quilt is an easy-does-it pattern. Dr. Kevin Manning presents what scientists have learned from the probe using astounding images and incredible video footage of Mars and space; and then the progress of an investigation to search for extrasolar planets among distant stars using detectors such as Kepler and others. Following his presentation, weather permitting, a powerful telescope is set up outdoors to view the night sky and see celestial objects such as craters on the Moon and the rings of Saturn.
