October 2014 Broadstairs open day programme
CANTERBURY CHRIST CHURCH UNIVERSITY OPEN DAY BROADSTAIRS SATURDAY 11 OCTOBER 2014 10AM - 3PM www.canterbury.ac.uk/opendays YOUR FUTURE STARTS HERE HELLO AND WELCOME I am so pleased that you can join us at this Open Day, where you can explore the many exciting aspects of university life at Canterbury Christ Church University. We know that choosing a university is one of the most important decisions you are likely to make, and one which will undoubtedly change the course of your life. For that reason, I would like to take the opportunity to tell you a little more about our University as you look around our Broadstairs Campus. students achieve their academic and career potential for over 50 years, and are proud that 93% of our recent UK graduates are in employment or further study six months after completing their studies (based on Destination of Leavers from Higher Education statistics for 2012-13 academic year). Our Broadstairs students enjoy studying at a modern, purpose-built campus, being part of a thriving community of 20,000 students across our well-established campus locations in Kent and Medway. Inter-site links mean that the campus is well-connected to all our University services, and specialist facilities for subjects based here provide a full range of environments to support learning. We are also one of the largest universities in the region for courses which lead to careers in the public services, such as teacher training, policing, health and social care. This reputation extends to our other areas of study, including business and management, arts and humanities and social and applied sciences. Broadstairs itself is a perfect British seaside town and, along with neighbouring Margate and Ramsgate, supports a thriving artistic and musical community. We are proud that our students regularly contribute to the artistic and musical scene here – from live music in our recently refurbished Dwell café bar, to exhibitions in the nearby Old Lookout Gallery at the Broadstairs harbour and the campus’ own Burton Gallery. Beyond the location, you’ll be considering how university can bring life experience, academic fulfilment and firm and exciting career prospects. We’ve been helping 02 Canterbury Christ Church University | 2014 Open Days Most importantly, though, we are passionate about education and our students. Today’s and future students, like you, are at the centre of everything we do – you inspire our teaching and motivate our determination to ensure that our physical facilities are outstanding. We hope that you like what you see today and, if you do, that you return to Christ Church as one of our next generation of successful students. OPEN DAY TWEET... @canterburyccuni Good course, good prospects, decent area and a cracking bacon sandwich! Follow 06 Canterbury Christ Church University | 2014 Open Days TO HELP YOU MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR DAY There’s a lot to see and do in a day and finding the right course and university for you is important. Here are some hints and tips to help! Find out as much as you can about the course you’re interested in so that you can be sure it’s the right course for you. Ask about the modules and find out about how you will be taught and assessed. Think about your longer term employment goals – will the course help you get there – but above all, pick the course you love! Speak to tutors at the Open Day. They can tell you about the course and help you decide if it’s the right one for you. You can find out about the different lecturers and their professional and research interests by taking a look at our website. It’s important to think about the kind of environment you’ll be comfortable in. Do you want city life or will you be more comfortable in a smaller place? Consider the costs of accommodation and transport and remember to talk to our Accommodation Advisers at the Open Day. Broadstairs is a small campus and offers you a friendly and very supportive environment in which to study. If you have the time, it’s worthwhile taking a look at Broadstairs and the neighbouring towns of Margate and Ramsgate – three seaside resorts on your doorstep! Throughout the year, we run taster days and workshops to help you get a flavour of what it will be like to be a student at Broadstairs. Ask us for info on how to sign up. Remember that choosing a course is not an exact science. Ask yourself what you liked about the day and trust your instincts. If you liked the sound of the course and enjoyed the day, then this could be the University for you! Please check page 8 for a full list of times and locations for your own itinerary. www.canterbury.ac.uk/opendays 07 SUBJECT TALKS AND STANDS YOU’LL BE ABLE TO VISIT A STAND FOR EVERY SUBJECT - AND MOST WILL ALSO GIVE A TALK Activity Description Time(s) Location ACCOMMODATION Talk 11:00, 12:30, 14:00 Carey, Cg07 View our halls of residence All day Northwood Court ADMISSIONS General advice: how and when to All day apply, the qualifications you’ll need Carey, Hall, Cg48 ARTS, CULTURE & SPORT Talk: Enriching your life: Arts, Culture & Sport at CCCU 11:00, 11:30, 13:30 Carey, Cg47 All day Carey, second floor Talk 10:30, 12:30, 14:00 Carey, Cg47 Desk All day Carey, Hall, Cg48 CAMPUS TOURS Guided tours of the Broadstairs Campus 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 12:30, Carey foyer 13:00, 13:30, 14:00, 14:30 CAREER DEVELOPMENT Desk All day Carey, Hall, Cg48 CREATIVE MUSIC TECHNOLOGY Talk 10:30, 12:00, 13:30 Allen, Alf20 Desk All day Go to Allen foyer – staff will meet you DESIGN Talk 10:30, 12:00, 13:30 Carey, Cf04 Desk All day Carey, Cf04 EARLY CHILDHOOD STUDIES AND EARLY YEARS COURSES Desk All day Carey, Hall, Cg48 EAST KENT COLLEGE Desk All day Carey, Hall, Cg48 FEES AND FINANCE Talk: Find out about financial support for your studies 10:00, 11:30, 13:00, 14:30 Carey, Cg07 HEALTH Desk All day Carey, Hall, Cg48 LEARNING CENTRE Tour – Find out more about the facilities on offer 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 12:30, Carey Foyer 13:00, 13:30, 14:00, 14:30 MUSIC (INCLUDING COMMERCIAL MUSIC AND MUSIC PRODUCTION) Talk 11:30, 12:30, 13:30 Allen, Alf22 Desk All day Tour the facilities Throughout the day Go to Allen foyer – staff will meet you Talk 11:00, 12:30, 14:00 Carey, Cf06 Desk All day Carey, Cf06 Talk 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30 Carey, Cg09 Desk All day Carey, Cg44 BOOKSHOP BUSINESS PHOTOGRAPHY POLICE STUDIES 08 Canterbury Christ Church University | 2014 Open Days Activity Description Time(s) Location STUDENT SUPPORT, HEALTH AND WELLBEING Desk All day Carey, Hall, Cg48 STUDENTS’ UNION Desk All day Carey, Hall, Cg48 WELCOME TALK Essentials about studying here and 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00 what’s on offer YOUR DAY PLANNER Plan plenty of time for talking with staff and students – the stands can get very busy! ......................................................................................................................................................................................... 9.30 10.00 10.30 11.00 11.30 .........................................................................................................................................................................................
