First Baptist Church Of Shepherdsville
December, 2014
By Charles White
Will you indulge me
for a few minutes as I reflect
on the four weeks you have
granted me the privilege of
worshiping with you. Actually, I will go back seven
weeks early when I visited
with you. Upon returning
home after that service, I
said to Linda (my wife),
“Shepherdsville is a shell of
what it was when I was
there before.” (I thought
about toning down that
statement, but that is what I
said.)
Now as I look back on
that visit, I realize it was not
happenstance that brought
Volume X, Number 12
me here. The Lord was preparing me for my return.
Needless to say I
came back with, let’s say,
modified expectations. Then
bang!
My
expectations
changed. I left my first service very uplifted and encouraged. I thought the
spirit was good, the music
wonderful and the preaching
(you choose – poor, fair,
good, great). Most encouraging was your ministry to
the less-fortunate. When I
saw all you were doing –
Martie’s Kitchen, the health
fair, Thanksgiving dinner,
clothes closet, food pantry,
etc – I said to myself, “In the
1
midst of all the turmoil their
heart for the “least of these”
still beats strong.”
I am not seeking to
minimize your problems. The
church has had a heart attack, but it hasn’t damaged
the whole heart. While the
lobe that beats for the lessfortunate remains strong,
the lobe that reaches out
and embraces one another
has been severely damaged.
The challenge before us is to
not let the damaged lobe infect the healthy lobe, but to
nurture the healthy lobe
enabling it to help repair the
damaged lobe.

Reflections...
(Continued from page 1)
I am encouraged that
the latter will come to pass
for two reasons.
1. Because of whom God is
and that is what God wants!
But that doesn’t automatically happen. God does not
force His will upon us as individuals or as a church.
God leads, but we must
choose to follow. I have no
doubt you will make that
choice. Why am I so confi-

dent? That brings me to the
second reason.
2. Because of whom you
are. The part of your heart
that is healthy is the lobe
that cares for and reaches
out to the less-fortunate.
With this kind of love, I am
confident your love for one
another will return even
stronger than before.
Now let me tell you
what breaks my heart –
Boy Scout Toy Giveaway
December 12th. The scouts
are collecting new and gently
used toys and clothes for their

Star by Jeanette Walls. The
group is meeting for a potluck
brunch at Wanda Collins’

looking out into the congregation on Sunday mornings
and not seeing many of you
who are part of my FBC
Shepherdsville family – you
whom I grew to love in my
previous time with you. As
much as I want to, I cannot
tell you should come back.
But I do ask one thing of you
– pray and ask God if He
wants you to return to be a
part of the healing process.
You ARE family!

Thank you so very much for your
generosity and hospitality! All of us at
Davidson Memorial are so grateful for
the gift of your Fellowship Hall for our
auction/chili dinner, for your support,
your care, and your prayers as we
re-build our Fellowship Hall/Ed Bldg.
And a great big thank you to the “dishwashers”.
Bless you in your ministry, and our
huge thanks to you again,
Pastor Beverly Shouse Maguffee
Thanks! It meant so much!
Just a note to express our thanks for the
refrigerator the Health Fair provided for us. It
is most appreciated.
(Letter from one of our Food Pantry Clients)
Thanks to the First Baptist
Church of Shepherdsville,
All your prayers and
thoughts for Wanda Baron is
so appreciated. She passed
away peacefully. Thanks to
God she is no longer in pain—
but missed so much by family
and friends.

& Randy Newton
To First Baptist Church,
My family and I want to thank you so
much for the cards, prayers, flowers, and
gift to the Kentucky Baptist Children’s Home
in memory of Della Kulmer. Most of all,
thank you for the wonderful dinner you
provided for my family. It was great. We
appreciate all of the kind words and
thoughts you gave to us during our time of
sorrow and grief in the passing of our mom.
She loved First Baptist Church and she
loved you all. She was a member here over
43 years. Thanks again for everything,
Linda Edmonds and the
Kulmer family

Church Directory Updates
Our Church Directory is a great tool to use to get to know your church family, to use as
a prayer guide and to contact other church members with cards, notes, or phone calls. We
encourage all members and regular attendees to have a copy of the Church directory. If you
do not have one, they are available in the church library or church office.
The Public Relations Committee is in the process of compiling a “New Members and
Updates” sheets for folks to insert in their current Church Directory. We are asking all members and regular attendees who are not in the current church directory, and anyone who is in
the directory but has updated information since the end of 2012 to please provide us with
their updated information. You can call Linda Hobbs at 502-599-1202, or email [email protected] with updates. Names of family members, address, and phone number are
included in the directory.
