Three Calabasas Schools Win
Excellence Awards
Willow Elementary, Yerba Buena Elementary and
Calabasas High Schools have been selected by the Campaign for
Business and Education Excellence (CBEE) as 2014 Honor Roll
recipients. Schools receiving this distinction have demonstrated
consistently high levels of student academic achievement. For
high schools, the Honor Roll recognition also includes measures
of college readiness. CBEE serves as the business community’s
voice in education in California. The mission of CBEE is to
use the power of data to learn what works to improve public
education. The organization conducts an extensive analysis
for every public school in California, and schools that have
been honored with this award stand well above the rest. CBEE
president, Jim Lanich stated, “Many of our high performing
schools are not getting the recognition they deserve.”
Lee
Blitch, CBEE Chairman and past CEO of the San Francisco
Chamber of Commerce said, “These schools that succeed in
reducing the achievement gap and preparing their students
for college and careers should be celebrated.” Dr. Daniel
Stepenosky, Superintendent of Schools for Las Virgenes Unified
School District says, “Being recognized by California’s business
community confirms that our incredible team of educators are
delivering a strong educational foundation to ensure the future
success of each student.”

Showing Gratitude...
Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men sang the
national anthem at today’s “Grateful Hearts”
event. The day is designed to raise funds for
local first responders from LAFD and LAPD.
Grateful Hearts featured fire departments
displays and trucks, LAPD units, a dunk tank
for firemen, and a huge BBQ lunch cooked by
first responders. All monies raised go to LAPD
Topanga Station and Fire Station 77. Stockman
helped to make Boyz II Men the best-selling
R&B group of all time as the group’s tenor
vocalist. For the past two decades, Stockman
and his bandmates have been crafting classic
albums whose appeal has withstood the test
of time. Shawn and the Boyz are celebrating
their 20th anniversary. Grateful Hearts was
produced by Douglas Emmett and the Valley
Cultural Center, which is celebrating its 40th
anniversary of concerts in the park this year.
