Volleyball Promotion hopefuls from the Kokonet second
Volleyball Promotion hopefuls from the Kokonet second division leagues boosted their chances after getting wins over their closest rivals last weekend, while Premium Spikers and Neo Boys collected three easy points each in the men’s first division. Unbeaten division two side La Digue Warriors met second placed Saints United in a match that saw them edge closer to promotion in only their very first year of existence. Praslin-based Saints United were hoping to stop the La Digue team’s excellent form, but the Warriors showed their intentions early on with a 25-19 first-set win and carried their momentum all the way to win the second and third sets 25-20 and 25-21 to end the match on a 3-0 score after 63 minutes. La Digue Warriors are now unbeaten in 12 games for a maximum 36 points, while Saints United are on 31 points (9 wins and 4 defeats). Bel Ombre met Island Girls in a mid-table clash and it was the former who came from a set down to prevail 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-17) after one and a half hours of play. In the other match, Port Glaud took just over an hour to finish off Ephelia Resorts on a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-20) scoreline to move into third place on 30 points (8 wins and 6 defeats) In the men’s second division, GAP Boyz look increasingly likely to play first division volleyball next year after they collected victory in the top-of-table clash against La Digue last weekend. The game was a very tight one as was expected and it was GAP who threw the first punch, winning the opening set 25-22. La Digue quickly replied with a 25-20 second-win. The third set was again close as GAP Boyz won 27-25 and with La Digue desperately needing to win the fourth to keep their hopes alive, the boys from Praslin won it 25-23 to inflict a second defeat on La Digue. The final score was 3-1 after one hour and 30 minutes. GAP Boyz are now unbeaten in six matches and lie in first place on the table with 18 points In the other men’s second division game, bottom club Airwaves met Outsiders and it was the latter who emerged victorious after one hour 25 minutes of play on a 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-10, 25-15) scoreline. In the men’s division one, there were two matches scheduled but Racing Club failed to turn up for their game against Premium Spikers and therefore the points were awarded to Spikers who did not have to break a sweat. The other match featured Neo Boyz and winless Arsu Boyz. Neo Boyz were victorious on a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-19) score after one hour 8 minutes.
