PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Even though summer is
still here, plans are well
underway for our 2015
Fall Membership Drive.

Everyone knows someone in the
industry who owns or manages
a business that is not currently
an HBASE member but really
should consider joining. The
recruitment efforts are much
easier when it’s with someone
you know whether personally or
professionally.
Our Fall Membership Drive will
take place from October 5-15
but teams of two are starting
to be formed right now. Call
the HBASE office (361-8322)
to sign up as an individual or
as a team. Winners will be
announced at the October 16
Member Appreciation Event at
the Country Club of Sioux Falls
(formerly Westward Ho).
In addition to some big cash
prizes for the top recruiters,
this year we’re adding a few fun
twists. If someone recruits at
least three new members during
the drive dates, they can add
to their drive total all the new
members they recruited since
January 2015.
Another twist this year is how
the team prizes will be awarded.
During the drive itself, teams
will consist of two members
each. But at the Member
Appreciation Event, each team
will be paired in a blind draw
with another team of two.
Their collective total number
of new members will be used
to determine the winning team
totals. So it’s to your benefit to
RECRUIT, RECRUIT, RECRUIT as
many new members as you can
from October 5-15 because you
don’t know who you’ll be paired
with for the big team prizes at
the end!
In addition to prizes for the
top recruiters, those who are
not able to recruit any new
members during the drive
can also expect some fun,
lighthearted things at the finale
on October 16 (don’t worry, it’s
nothing bad).
Now is the time to find your
membership partner and sign
up your winning team. Over

2,000 in prizes will be given
out during this year’s Fall
Membership Drive and we want
YOU to be a part of the fun!

recently announced changes
to the federal overtime
salary threshold in 2016 will
reduce job-advancement
opportunities – as well as the
hours of full-time employees
like construction supervisors,
leading to construction delays,
increased costs and less
affordable housing.
Right now, the Department
of Labor considers workers
who earn less than $23,660 a
year non-exempt employees:
Employers must pay them time
and a half for any hours they
work over a traditional 40-hour
work week.
With the move to more than
double this threshold to
$50,440, NAHB and others in
the business community argue
that such a dramatic surge is
unlikely to result in an increase
in pay, but instead force
business owners to structure
their workforce to compensate
by scaling back on pay and
benefits, as well as cutting
hours to avoid the overtime

HBA no earlier than 8:00am on Monday, October 5 and no later than
5:00pm on Thursday, October 15, 2015
• Triple Spike Credits will apply for drive recruits
• Anyone who recruits at least 3 new members during the drive can
count all spike credits since January 2015 towards their drive total
• Before the drive, participants submit in writing that if they don’t
recruit any new members they will do something for the winner
who draws that envelope or something at an upcoming HBA event
