a mark of 32-1 and the program’s first national championship.
• The 1989-90 Stanford team averaged over 92 points a game and hit the century mark in
scoring on 10 different occasions.
• Stanford’s 114-point performance in its regional-final victory over Arkansas still stands as
the top team single-game scoring effort in an NCAA Regional contest.
• Jennifer Azzi ended her college career not only with a national title, but also by taking home

pedigree to
the Maples
Pavilion
sidelines.
• Head coach Tara VanDerveer has led the Cardinal to a pair of national titles
(1990 and 1992) and boasts a 572-137 record through 23 years on The Farm.
• Associate head coach Amy Tucker, serving as co-head coach in 1995-96 while
Tara VanDerveer was on leave coaching the USA Olympic Team, was named UPI
National Coach of the Year and Pac-10 Coach of the Year after guiding Stanford
to a 29-3 overall record, a perfect 18-0 Pac-10 mark, and the Final Four.
• Second-year assistant coach Bobbie Kelsey spent five years
as a player on The Farm (1991-96) and was a member of
Stanford’s 1992 National Champion team, while seeing
action on the court in two Final Fours.
• Second-year assistant coach Kate Paye was a key defensive
presence in the Cardinal backcourt from 1991-95. She
saw action in a pair of Final Fours with the Cardinal and
was part of the 1992 national champion team.

Home of champions
• Stanford has posted nine undefeated seasons at Maples
Pavilion since beginning play there in 1974-75, most
recently going 15-0 in 2007-08.
• Cardinal women’s basketball games have consistently
brought large crowds to Maples Pavilion, most notably
eight announced crowds of 7,500.
• Maples Pavilion has served as a host site for NCAA
Tournament contests in 14 of the past 20 postseasons.
Over that span, Stanford has posted a 22-4 record in
NCAA Tournament contests played at Maples Pavilion.
• Stanford boasts an all-time record of 392-82 (.827) at
Maples Pavilion.

Arrillaga Gymnasium
& Weight Room
Already home to some of the finest athletic facilities in the nation,
Stanford athletics will welcome the addition of the Arrillaga Gymnasium
and Weight Room in the spring of 2009.
The Arrillaga Gymnasium and Weight Room will be located adjacent to
Maples Pavilion, near the southwest entrance. The state-of-the-art facility
will include two practice courts for basketball and three practice courts
for volleyball. The basketball courts will also be used for recreation when
practice is not in session.
The courts will be connected to
Maples Pavilion through an
underground tunnel. In addition, space
will be provided for a new Varsity
Weight Room.
Construction of the Arrillaga
Gymnasium began on July 18, 2008
and groundbreaking took place three
days later.
This project is the result of a generous
contribution from the Arrillaga family.
The Arrillaga Gymnasium and Weight Room
will be completed in the spring of 2009.

• Stanford Women’s Basketball annually conducts a mentor program with young girls from the East Side School’s Shoot For the Stars program.
• Stanford players participate in a pen pal program with young elementary students at La Entrada School in Menlo Park. Each pen pal receives a player
card from their respective Stanford players, and at the end of the year, the Stanford players visit the pen pals’ classrooms.
• The Stanford team puts on numerous clinics throughout the year for kids in the local community and at the East Side School.

The Golden Gate Bridge
Stanford’s campus is located less than an hour’s drive from
San Francisco to the north, just minutes from the Silicon
Valley to the south and within easy reach of the breathtaking

Among the Nation’s Best
Stanford’s athletic facilities are perhaps the finest in collegiate athletics.
The Stanford football program is housed in the spacious Arrillaga
Family Sports Center, which includes administrative offices, meeting
rooms and training facilities. The Harvey Bernhard Football Locker
Room is located on the ground floor and an extensive weight training
facility is located downstairs.
The Arrillaga Family Sports Center also includes a restaurant and the
Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame Room, with its impressive display of
Stanford’s 14 Director’s Cups and numerous NCAA trophies.
Picturesque Sunken Diamond is home to the Cardinal baseball program.
