Press Information The Company T he Julius Meinl brand stands for tradition, delicious indulgence, quality and expertise and is one of the strongest brands Austria has ever had – more than 95% of all Austrians know the Meinl logo with its famous “Maure“. Julius Meinl was established in 1862 and today is managed by the 5th generation of the family. It all started with the innovative idea of Julius Meinl more than 150 years ago, to be the first company to sell roasted coffee. Before, only the green coffee beans were sold which people then had to roast themselves. The idea was met with instant success and very soon Julius Meinl became an institution in the Austrian food market. Also, the demand from restaurants increased continuously: Today, Julius Meinl is the market leader for coffee in Austria and, worldwide, more than 1 billion cups of Julius Meinl coffee are being served every year. 17,000 items from approximately 100 countries, the shop plays a major role in the Austrian food market. To set new trends in the delicatessen trade and to satisfy even the most extravagant demands of our customers, the buyers of Julius Meinl am Graben are constantly looking for interesting high quality products, either for sale or for use by our own, toque seal-awarded cuisine. In addition to the large variety of products with international brand names, Julius Meinl am Graben creates premium products under its own brand which can be found almost throughout the entire product range. For this purpose, we select domestic and foreign producers who guarantee quality rather than quantity. Since March 2013, select Julius Meinl brand products and top sellers can even be purchased at the new MeinlShop in the Vienna Kempinski hotel. The Julius Meinl Group successfully operates in more than 70 countries as a supplier to coffee houses or operator of its own coffee houses around the globe, offering customers high-end products such as coffee, tea, chocolate, jam and much more. In addition to the coffee production, the Meinl Group includes the gourmet temple “Julius Meinl am Graben”, the Meinl internet commerce online shop, and the Meinl Bank. In 2012 the group was able to increase sales by 6 % to € 131 million.
