Education of Minister II, Y.B. Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh officiating the ‘Partnering Industries, Engaging Employers’ programme at Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan, Pasir Gudang. The event was also attended by Director General of Department of Polytechnic Education, Datuk Mohlis bin Jaafar and several of industries in Malaysia. These highlighted that the polytechnics in the country has already had industrial partners comprising companies in helping Polytechnics to provide the latest theoretical and practical training to the lecturers and students. DATUK HJ MOHLIS BIN JAAFAR DIRECTOR GENERAL DEPARTMENT OF POLYTECHNIC EDUCATION Partnering Industries, Engaging Employers Motto is hoped and expected to increase the level of collaboration between the industries and Malaysia Polytechnics. As mentioned by the Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh while officiating the Partnering Industries, Engaging Employers program recently, deeper involvement of the industrial sector could boost the marketability among polytechnic graduates. The ministry wants to perceive the industrial sector to play a bigger role in education at the polytechnics, by helping to look into the curriculum and teaching methods in Polytechnics. The government also wishes industries to be a serious partner in involving themselves in the teaching and learning process at polytechnics. It is our hope in Department of Polytechnic Education that our students know what to do as soon as they start working as we are much aware that the technical and vocational education currently is very important in spurring national economic development and in meeting the high market demand for workers with technical skills. Last but not least, we hope that deep relations between polytechnics and their industrial partners will produce students who are fully prepared to enter the employment sector. CISEC Meeting, Royal Hotel Penang, Politeknik Kota Bharu, Politeknik Melaka, Politeknik Merlimau & Politeknik Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin 7 EMPLOYABILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE The Employability Advisory Committee (EAC) 1/2014 was held in the Department of Polytechnic Education to seek the opinion of bridging the gap between supply and demand of jobs for polytechnic students. The two hours meeting was attended by five representatives from various industries. Bhd to discuss on collaboration opportunities under the Agilent-UMP ICoE and the signing of MOU between Agilent and DPE in the area of students and staff development, curriculum and Center of Technology (CoT) Jobstreet Malaysia MIDA Ms. Catherine Lim, (Manager-Jobseeker Merketing) and Mr. Edmund Teh (Executive, Campus & Events Marketing)from Jobstreet.com offer resume clinics program and share the latest information on job hunting skills to all polytechnics students and also the setting of job portal. 3 Meeting chaired by Pn. Lim Bee Vian (Director of Industry Talent Management Division, MIDA) to discuss in the aspect of potential collaboration between the DPE and MIDA with respect to manpower requirements from industries. MYLINK STRATEGIC COLLABORATION & NETWORKING UTC Building & Industrial System Federation of Malaysia Freight Forwarders (FMFF) Ms. Charles Lim (Malaysia Brunei BIS Managing Director), Mr. Olivier Caublot (General Manager CISB), Mr. Chong Wai Yen (CMB Managing Director) & Mr. Mohamed Hilmy (CFO BIS Malaysia Brunei) attended the meeting to discuss collaborative opportunities and to develop a new generation of Industries talent. Mr. Alvin Chua (President) and Mr. Cheok Sun (Head of E & T) from the Federation of Malaysia Freight Forwarders (FMFF) were in a discussion on facilitatating input to logistics program in Politeknik Nilai and Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah. Bhd welcomed by En. Ahmad Zaidi bin Md.Zain (Senior Manager: Engineering, KPTC Technologies). The aims of the visit was to discuss on the employability opportunities for polytechnic students and the industry attachment for polytechnic lecturers. Brainstorming session to discuss on the development of the Executive Diploma in Engineering Technology (Automative & Control) for Western Digital (WD) staff. Enrolment is suggested to be in June 2015 at Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah. First Solar Malaysia Penang Western Digital Penang Pn. MYLINK REACHING OUT INSTITUTION CISEC Meeting, Royal Hotel Penang Workshop on the Restructuring and Strategic Planning of CISEC unit was held in Royal Hotel, Penang. 30 officers from Politeknik Malaysia were present to discuss on various agendas and issues that can enhance the collaboration and networking opportunities between polytechnics and industry. Politeknik Kota Bharu Politeknik Melaka Mr. Tung Chee Kuan sharing his thoughts on employability in INNOTEX and Industry Dialogue in Politeknik Kota Bharu. Mr. Tung Chee Kuan, Director of Industry Liaison launching the Career Competition Conference & Exhibition in Politeknik Melaka. Politeknik Merlimau & Politeknik Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin A road show for further studies opportunity (southern zone and East Coast zone) was held in collaboration with Jobstreets Malaysia and the IPTA/IPTS around Malaysia. This is a platform for polytechnics final semester students and the road show saw the participation of 14 Higher learning Institutions.
