Information can be found on the following BC Ministry of Education link: https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/home which states that: ”Transformation in curriculum will help teachers create learning environments that are both engaging and personalized for students. At the heart of British Columbia’s redesigned curriculum are core competencies, essential learning and literacy and numeracy foundations.” This curriculum continues to focus on the essential skills that students need to be successful, but also allows for more project based and hands on learning while broadening the learning opportunities for every child. Parents are encouraged to take the time to visit this site to learn about the changes in the curriculum as well as in student assessment and communicating student learning. Halloween is soon upon us! As we balance school, safety and fun in a school with some students as young as four years old, please remember the following before sending your child in a costume on Friday so that they are comfortable and able to function in all of their classes and outside at recess and lunch: - Please leave masks and face coverings at home - Guns, swords or weapons need to remain at home. - We are celebrating a “Happy Halloween” – please leave ‘blood and gore’ for Saturday night Trick or Treating! Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be held in conjunction with Fernie Secondary on Tuesday, November 10th at 11 AM in the FSS gym. Parents are welcome to join us! Dawn Voysey Principal IDES 2015-2016 School Goal: To improve all IDES students’ achievement in reading, writing and numeracy, and to investigate the Inquiry Question: Will consistent yearly use of pre and post year common assessment in grades 1 – 6 increase student achievement in reading and writing? Elk Valley Children Who Witness Abuse Program Elkford Women’s Task Force Society PO Box 742 Elkford B.C. V0B 1H0 Ph. (250) 433-6353 [email protected] September 29th, 2015 Dear Parents/Guardians/Caregivers, We would like to invite your child/ren to the Kids Count Too group. ‘Kids Count Too!’ is a community based support program for children and youth of the Elk Valley who have individual struggles, family conflict or have experienced a change in their family dynamic. ‘Kids Count Too!’ support is private and confidential. This year Kids Count Too is interested in running a group at Isabella Dicken Elementary School if there is enough interest. The target audience would be students who have experienced a change in their family dynamic (ie: divorce, separation, new step-parents, blending families). Group support encourages and assists children and youth to share their thoughts and feelings with others and creates a network in which the members may connect with each other. In each group session, we provide a healthy snack as well as focus on a topic to discuss and explore with the group of children. Topics can include changing families, coping skills and problem solving, feelings, self-esteem and anger management, amongst others. Activities for each topic may include games, crafts, charades or group work.. If you would like your child to participate in this group please send us an email indicating your interest. Group will run once a week for about 6-8 weeks for an hour in length and will be divided based on grade level. The first session will establish group rules and expectations, as well as play some “getting to know you games”. The group facilitators are Jennifer Lyall, from Kids Count Too and we are very pleased to have Mrs.Polacik from IDES joining our group! If you think your child may benefit from attending a group like this or if you have any questions/concerns please email or call.
