Bring in the New Year Celebration. From 8PM - 11 PM we will have games, activities & food. From 11 PM - 12 AM we will have a time for sing & share. PASTOR’Snotes Sometimes, evangelical Christians do more harm than good on Facebook. Honor Everyone But here’s where it gets hard. We are to honor everyone, Peter said. Even the emperor (1 Peter 2:17). Yes, the bloodthirsty, sexual maniac on Caesar’s throne must receive honor from Christians suffering under the thumb of a dictatorship. Paul backs Peter up, telling us to outdo one another in showing honor (Romans 12:10). The Honor Filter So, instead of just putting up internet filters so we can control what comes into our computers, perhaps we should put up an “honor filter” that will help us control what goes out of our computers. Consider what questions an “honor filter” we could ask of our Facebook and Twitter statuses. - Is my point of view offered with respect to those who disagree? - Do I assume the best of those who are my political opponents? - Does it look like I am raging against injustice or against people made in God’s im age? - Am I showing honor when reviled or slandered? For the Christian, it’s not about winning a culture war. We win through how we engage our neighbors. Our honor should be on full display… even on Facebook. From an article by CrossWalk. What a great time we had together at YEC again this year and SUPER excited about the decisions for Christ within our group as we look forward to having those follow Christ example with baptism. YEC always brings somewhat of a end of the year lift to our spirit and it has reminded us the importance of living out our faith no matter where we are or what day of the week it is and the cost of following Jesus is not always easy but absolutely worth it. Also, it encouraged us to be aware of the needs around the world of spreading the gospel across our continent and as well as missions right here in our own community. I do hope and pray that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am very thankful for my family and the blessing that God has given to me with a loving supportive wife, beautiful children and our health. And a great church family as well, may we continue to pray, love and encourage each other and prepare our hearts for celebration of the birth of Christ. Here are some events that we have planned for the Jr. high for this month. Love in Christ, Bro. Robert Dear Students, The “What It Is” camping trip at FBC - DeRidder was an awesome time of fellowship and worship! If you had to miss it, you missed a great trip. I look forward to going with you again the next time they decide to do it. YEC was also a great trip! We had about 14 high school students go on the trip, and we all had an excellent time! We also had two High School youth make decisions at YEC. We are excited about what God has planned for them. The annual High School Youth Christmas Party will be held on Friday, December 13th at my house. I look forward to all of you showing up and having a great time of fellowship with each other. We will have hot dogs, s’mores, cocoa, chili, and lots of fun games to play! We will meet at the church at 5:30PM to ride together out to the house. Remember always that Jesus is the reason we celebrate! Love in Christ, Bro. Roland P. Dec. 13th Jr. High Youth The account of the candy cane’s origins circulates every Christmas season and is more likely a fun story than historical fact. No matter; tales often contain truth. This tasty treat can convey important elements of our Christian faith. Christmas Party @ Family Life Center and the Blackwell’s. 5:30 PM Dear Cooper Baptist Church Family, We would like to say thank you for the delicious meal provided to our family during the loss of “Mom Kay”. Your love and kindness was certainly a blessing to our family. What an expression of God’s love extended to each one of us. We were thankful four your ministry. Much Love, Buddy Scott & Family Thank you for all your efforts in seeking God’s will for me through prayer for my healing. God has been faithful in hearing you and honoring your faithfulness! Love In Christ’s service, Hollis Roberts The stripes remind us of the heart of Christmas, our Savior, Jesus: white for his purity; red for his blood shed on the cross. The candy cane resembles the curved staffs of the shepherds — the first people to visit the ChristChild and worship at the manger. And when the cane is turned upside down, it becomes a letter J, for “Jesus.” Indeed, Jesus turns our lives upside down and inverts our presumptions: A poor baby born in a stable becomes King of kings and Lord of lords; enemies aren’t for hating but loving; blessings aren’t for hoarding but sharing; the world works for war, but Jesus calls us to live in peace; receiving is better than giving; sinners are made saints; and death is conquered as God grants us eternal life.
