Hello, my name is Daffy,
And it’s not because I’m bonkers.
My one-way trip was from Orlando
(But I’ve never been to Yonkers).
Daffy
My legs were dragging behind me,
So I was rescued by wonderful Rose.
As she carried me up the driveway,
I heard cats, dogs, roosters and crows!
Where could I be? I wondered …
On a cloud in animal heaven?
Not fair…I’m way too young to die;
My weeks number only seven!
“Come in,” they said, “we’ll take care of you.”
It was like hearing a hymn or a song.
“Don’t be afraid! You’re going to meet
Dr. Avis and Dr. Long.”
My pelvis was broken, my femur was crushed,
So that’s why I was in such pain.
But not to worry, I’m on my way now,
Waltzing down Recovery Lane!
For three months, my home was a cage;
It was illegal to skip, jump, or run.
While I had to watch everyone frolic around,
Let me tell you, that was not fun.
But guess what, folks? Now, listen to this!
My incarceration is finally over!
I’m free at last, free at last,
To chase around with Tom, Dick, and Rover.
There’s never a dull moment here on the farm;
My new best friend is Curley the Chick.
I watch over him as he sleeps at night
And in daytime, we play—and he’s quick!
He can’t see well and he has curly feet,
That make him look just like a duck.
It doesn‘t matter that I have fur, not feathers...
We’re happy and don’t give a cluck!
Misty
Hello, my name is Misty;
I’m a one-eyed swayback horse.
Guess my age? I’m thirty-five!
For a horse, that’s old, of course.
Lake Helen was home for many years;
Tina was my master and friend.
We galloped together and loved one another
Till her life came to an end.
No one but Tina could stay on my back,
And I’m still a feisty old mare.
Don’t spray me with fly stuff or pick at my ears!
You’ll get a one-eyed icy stare.
When I’m resting, I lay flat out on the ground;
For awhile, they all thought I was dead.
No, just give me a half-hour nap now and then,
And don’t lock me up in a shed.
The backyard dogs are my best friends;
We socialize over the fence.
(Don’t put me in with other horses,
Or the atmosphere could get tense!)
I live in my own private stall here
With a breakfast nook, fan, and light.
Dale serves me my meals right on time
Or he’s in for a rodeo fight!
Sue pampers me with baths and love,
And brings me bananas! Sound silly?
No, they have been my snack of choice
Ever since I was a young filly.
I’m old now and not as striking
As I once was in my glory.
But I can chew hay with the teeth I have left…
I’m still living a wonderful story!

S.O.S.! Urgent Plea!
Annually, this time of year is financially lean for us, and unfortunately, we find that to be even more
the case this year. We are accustomed to our veterinary and maintenance costs alone being routinely
very high, but when multiple emergency situations arise, as has happened recently, expenses can quickly
exceed our available resources. We find ourselves in such a position now. We are so grateful for your
continual generous support and can’t help but feel reluctant to appeal to you further during this time of
need. But the truth is that we rely on you for our very existence and for all that we are able to do for the
animals, and so we turn to you now in hopes that you might help us through this especially challenging
time. As always, there is no way to adequately express how much we value you. You are the reason
the animals at Journey’s End are able to live such happy, healthy lives. Thank you for whatever you are
able to give.

Memorial Garden
Because we don’t adopt out, and so many of our animals come to us who are elderly or
suffering from health challenges, we experience a lot of heartbreak at Journey’s End. Everyone
who has lost a beloved companion animal understands the terrible grief involved in such a loss.
We are in the process of building a small memorial garden on the grounds of Journey’s End, a
special place where all the precious animals who have left us for the Rainbow Bridge can be
remembered. There will be flowers, a fountain, and a single stone marker to honor the lives of
the many animal angels who have left the Earth, but remain forever in our hearts.
If you are interested in donating to fund the Memorial Garden, please simply indicate on your
donation your wish that it be applied toward that project. As ever, we appreciate your support
more than words can express, without which Journey’s End could not exist to provide care for so
many needy animals.
Journey’s End is a non-profit 501(c)3 humane organization ensuring the lives of over 300 companion special needs
animals from dogs and cats to horses and pigs! Every penny received goes to this effort and tax-deductible donations are
our only income. All donors receive our newsletter.
