Create Your Own Dr. Seuss Character Contest 2016 Winning Entries © Random House Pueblo City-County Library District Create Your Own Dr. Seuss Character Contest Pueblo City-County Library District is pleased to announce the winners and honorable mentions of the 2016 Create Your Own Dr. Seuss Character Contest. Students, from kindergarten to high school, were invited to draw their own Dr. Seuss character and write a brief description of their character. The students, whose characters were selected, were invited to an awards ceremony at the library. Winners received a $10 gift certificate, and honorable mention recipients received a $5 gift certificate to Books Again Bookstore, courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Winners and honorable mentions also received a Dr. Seuss prize package! All students who participated received a certificate of achievement. The judges were Friends of the Library board members Eileen Arnot, Doreen Martinez, Becky Suddath and Sherry Wingo and PCCLD staff members Gloria Madrill, Sara Schwartz, Michelle Vigil and Courtney Woodka.There were a total of 3,104 entries. The library wishes to thank everyone who entered the contest and the teachers and parents who encouraged them to participate. We look forward to your entries again next year! Loved music more than anyone she knew. She had music notes in her do! And loved playing the razoo. Mary Lou played the blues. She played in high heel shoes! And was pretty good too! They are banana creatures; they help rescue bananas so people don’t eat them. She is half bunny and half giraffe. She likes to play with people and make new friends. Tarek Murad Madalyn Segura 1st Place - 1st Grade The McClelland School – Ms. Sparks 2nd Place - 1st Grade Carlile Elementary School – Mrs. Dixon Sir Horn Alot Dogin My character’s name is Sir Horn Alot and he lives in music world. He also loves to bask in the sun and sing. There are also lots and lots of hot air balloons in music world. All of the bridges are gold and this is the golden bridge. My name is Dogin. I like to fly, run and breathe out fire! I live in a doghouse that is in a cave. I like to eat peppers and dog food. I have many colors like green, brown, black, purple, red and blue. My special talent is saving other animals then myself. She must be careful that the bunnies don’t eat her while she spreads her love, love, love! The Zapplen is a mythological creature, from head to its tail it has lots of features. It has peacock feathers on the end of its tail and razor sharp claws almost like nails. It’s rather soft from all that fluff and sometimes he gets in to too much stuff. He has webbed feet and likes to eat anything he can fit in his beak! Sofia Gonzales Reagan Gosa 2nd Place - 2nd Grade Highland Park Elementary School – Mrs. Madic 3rd Place - 2nd Grade Trinity Lutheran School – Mrs. Miller Edwin the Elephant Flickamusic Everybody always makes fun of Edwin the elephant because instead of squirting water out of his trunk, he makes cotton candy. The circus found this mightly handy. Edwin made lots of friends with the kids who came to his show, this made Edwin smile and grow, grow, grow. Flickamusic plays a lot of music. So if you let one in your house he will not be as quiet as a mouse. He has 20 legs and 40 heads. He plays 11 instruments. Also, he can fly. Libby Griego Montez Clara Chandler 1st Place - 3rd Grade Carlile Elementary School – Ms. Lobato 2nd Place - 3rd Grade St. John Neumann Catholic School – Mrs. Starcer Baba The Cotton Candy Thing My character is Baba. He has two monkey ears, five fingers and five tan toes. He wears a diaper with a teddy bear on his diaper. He’s half monkey and half baby. He sings “Baby Monkey Baby” at a medium fast pace to himself aloud. He has a pink nose and two eyes that are blue. He also sucks on a pacifier. He’s a boy. I chose this character because I like to make up silly characters in Dr. Seuss. Also this is why I want this character to be in Dr. Seuss books. The Cotton Candy Thing lives in Cotton Candy Forest. It eats the cotton candy off the cotton candy trees. It dies if eating off the wrong tree. It has a curly tongue that helps him suck the cotton candy. Alex Donley Steven Esquibel 3rd Place - 3rd Grade Sunset Park Elementary School – Mrs. Taylor 1st Place - 4th Grade Minnequa Elementary School – Miss Kroll Loo Loo Rasser My character is named Loo Loo. He is a shop shop. He sells blankets, shoes, clothes, fish, drinks, candy and much more. He travels all around the world. He is very fast and strong. Every thing is connected to him. He is also very friendly. My characer is one smart living thing. He can live 350 years. He’s also very strong. He can lift 250 pounds. He has an ability to turn invisible. His name is Rasser. Richard Medina Kyla Barrett 2nd Place - 4th Grade Minnequa Elementary School – Miss Kroll 3rd Place - 4th Grade Icey Ruby Rubix Icey was a normal ice cream cone but they did not want him. They left him in the freezer then he came to life. Desert Sage Elementary School – Mrs. Hamler This is Ruby Rubix. She is really kind. If there’s a problem she figures out a way to fix it. She’s a really good friend and she loves to share. Alex Tyler Salma Valdez 1st Place - 5th Grade Morton Elementary School – Ms. Balas 2nd Place - 5th Grade Carlile Elementary School – Ms. Hart Hoo-Dini My characer is a golden owl named Hoo-Dini. He’s a magician that does many tricks. Hoo-Dini lives in a small treehouse above a house. The region he lives in is a forest below the mountains. His favorite trick to use is making cards float around him. He’s a friendly owl that likes to play with children. Hoo-Dini has a top hat with yellow eyes and black pupils. He’s a great joke teller too. Makwee This is Makwee. He loves to sing. He sings his way out of problems. That’s just the way to solve ‘em. He is a mint, light green like the color of summer grass. Makwee loves the shade. He can just sit back and relax. Susannah Baxter Meena Ropp 3rd Place - 5th Grade Goodnight Elementary School – Mrs. Durning 1st Place - 6th grade Connect Charter School – Ms. Medina Zoolina I am Zoolina. My favorite thing is tea. I like to sit on a stool in the bright sun. My hair is long. I like to sing my songs. I am tall. My tea cups are small and I will never fall. So if you like tea, pick me. Higgity Giggity Higgity Giggity is springity bingity. Hopping from moon to moon, star to star, house to house and car to car. She has a springity spring with a whirly tail, swirly eyes and crazy hair. She owns plenty of pretty things from combs and brushes, to clothes and jewels, homes and hair lucious, robes and mules. Now, I’m afraid she has to go, for far away is her home. But don’t worry, for she’ll be back, cause now she has to jump to Iraq. Meagan Eldridge Zoe Chavez 2nd Place - 6th grade Pueblo Academy of Arts – Ms. Holcomb 3rd Place - 6th grade Connect Charter School – Ms. Roberts Girapet Wonder Fonder My character is a male and he is part giraffe, dear, cat and owl. His name is Girapet. He makes many music sounds from his mouth, that is how he speaks. Every time he speaks or he has some feeling that is good or bad, his stripes change colors and the rest of his body. He is only four inches tall and that is all that he can grow. His eyes are wide and he can see very far. His eyes are a bright yellow and his eyes also turn yellow too. He has a long neck, a cat face, owl eyes and deer horns. Wonder Fonder is part of the yonder family tree. They are always filled with wandering glittery glee. Having gone back in time but not forward, he has experienced quite a lot. In fact that brings us a very good thought to mind, he may even be right behind. He’s been everywhere, he’s been here and he’s been there. He wanders from place to place, looking for some extra space. Hope you’ve learned a lot about Wonder because he’s not too far. He may even be right where you are. Kyla Malleck Joshua Thatcher 1st Place - 7th grade Swallows Charter Academy – Ms. Simonich 2nd Place - 7th grade Connect Charter School – Ms. Roberts The Shy Why Lumo-Lumo The Shy Why was a fox who was so shy and blue as sky. No one knows why she has hearts on her chest and paws, there weren’t any aws. She stays in a cave that no one dares to grave. She stays in the cave to hide. To the world she didn’t be so wide. People and other animals didn’t have the right style. But soon her trust and care shall soon be with people and animals in a while. This is the very elusive Lumo-Lumo who lives in a jungle and the great blue sea. He loves to swim, chase things, he can juggle, sprint extremely fast, loves to dance and has a mighty roar to show his territory. The Lumo-Lumo loves to collect things from various places but his favorite thing to collect is watches. Gianni Tucci Joli Dou 3rd Place - 7th grade Pleasant View Middle School – Mrs. Granato 1st Place - 8th grade Connect Charter School – Mrs. Wood Truffula Fumpter Ecokitty The Truffula Fumpter loves to take long walks in the sun with his best friend Fred riding his back. He takes long swims in the river because his furry legs get very hot during the day. He uses his big blue furry tail to fan his head. He especially likes to eat ice cream on Sundays with extra whip cream and a strawberry on top. Ecokitty takes short showers. He’s careful not to trample flowers. He may like car rides best, but Ecokitty bikes to give earth’s polluted atmosphere a rest. With a great big smile on his face, Ecokitty makes the world a better place. Melina Faris Averi Campos 2nd Place - 8th grade Connect Charter School – Mrs. Medina 3rd Place - 8th grade Swallows Charter Academy – Ms. Simonich Dr. Twinkle-Thinker Mr. Paloop When Dr. Twinkle-Thinker thinks, all of his stars being to twinkle. Dr. Twinkle-Thinker treats all of his crinkling patients like hinkel, kinkel and finkel with sparkling sprinkles. It’s a stinker when Dr. Twinkle-Thinker’s patients begin to turn pinker. Dr. Twinkle-Thinker clinkers back and forth until a blinker goes off in his thinker. In a jinker Dr. Twinkle-Thinker gets a pickly pickle to treat his ailing pinker stinkers. Mr. Paloop comes from a town called Sloop. You might be surprised but he makes a lot of loot. He does this by selling delicious soup. Although you won’t find his restaurant in the buzzy city of Cantoop. Where you can find it is out of the city by the houp, that reads Paloops. Micaela Maher Kahla De Herrera 1st Place - High School Pueblo West High School – Mrs. Wilson 2nd Place - High School East High School – Mr. Gradisar Grangle Ember This is the Grangle. He is an ancient forest creature who has lived for thousands of years. His house is a cave. His favorite food is apples but he eats a lot of blueberries. He was born with only one horn and hetercronic eyes, an oddity among his kind. Ashes, water, plants and light combine to form Ember, a shadow of elements. She has a fire in her heart that holds her wispy figure together. Her presence becomes known after natural disasters when the earth is trying to recover life from the destruction that was left behind. Ember appears as a wisp in the wind and flies over the destruction with her wings that fade from ash to water, plant and light to heal all the land below her. When her job is done she fades aways with the wind until her service is needed again. Katelyn Duke Honorable Mention - Kindergarten Carlile Elementary School – Mrs. Payne Honorable Mentions Piggiraffe Piggiraffe lives in Africa. She likes to meet other animals. Sari Hart Honorable Mention - Kindergarten Highland Park Elementary – Ms. Anaya Goose Elephant It’s part goose and part elephant. It flips around four times. When it’s daytime it’s cold but when it’s nighttime it’s not. Phoenix Nino Shayna Aragon-Archuleta Honorable Mention - Kindergarten Minnequa Elementary School – Mrs. Incitti Honorable Mention - 1st Grade Highland Park Elementary School – Ms. Nicodemus Shragon Dragon Naraya Awesome Shragon Dragon. Layanne Riensch Honorable Mention - Kindergarten Highland Park Elementary School – Mrs. Butler My bear’s name is Naraya. Naraya’s eyes are blue. She is happy. She is soft and fluffy. Pretty My characters name is Pretty because she is pretty and she is half zebra. She likes dresses. This is my friend. Cutie helps people and loves to eat oranges. He has lots of friends because he is so sweet. He shrinks through the thinks he can rink to the think. Honorable Mention - 2nd Grade North Mesa Elementary School – Miss Fetty Peaturtle My name is Peaturtle and I can overcome any hurdle. Size and color don’t scare me, I am filled with happiness and glee. Whenever the sun shines on me you will see, just how happy a peaturtle can be. Brody Kidd Olivia Velasquez Honorable Mention - 2nd Grade Sunset Park Elementary School – Mrs. Kliesen Honorable Mention -2nd Grade Belmont Elementary School – Ms. Procell La Ti Da Peggo La Ti Da is my pet bellephant. She is half of a bird and her other half is elephant. She has beautiful big wings that are pink and zebra striped. She loves to sing, that’s why I named her La Ti Da because she’s always singing it. I ride her everywhere we go and we sing together. She is my best friend and I love her. Peggo at the zoo is half penguin and Easter egg. His body has nine colorful dots and yellow spikey hair. Peggo can swim and waddle. Go vist Peggo at the zoo where colorful rules. Can you chew a choo choo while you say achoo? And it won’t get the flu whatever you do. That’s the Zoodlezie Zoo. Hi, my name is Mr. McFluffles. I like strawberry soup and bright ruffles. I pick flowers and sing “tra lala” all day. My hair is always a mess but I could really care less because my friends and family love me just the way I am. With family’s love and care, it makes up for my goofy hair. You really must join me someday soon for strawberry soup and tea. You’ll love it so much you might even want my recipe. He squirts lemon juice out of his tentacles and he grows plants out of his head and sometimes when people hug him his fur grows fast and it comforts people. Bad Baby My character is a bad baby because he glued his eyes shut to another thing. Another thing my baby did was grow horns. He has three legs and four arms. Teddy Guerra Megan Quigley Honorable Mention - 3rd Grade Park View Elementary School – Mrs. Lawson Honorable Mention -3rd Grade Minnequa Elementary School – Mrs. Faris Adele the Snail Cool Alien Cool Alien lives in planet Glipzoc with his own people. He eats stars but he likes human food too. When you are nice and do something good to him, he will have a lot of fun with you. Adele was the smartest snail in Scottsdale. Adele the snail was so smart she graduated from Yale. Adele the snail loved to write stories. Her most recent one was about a grey whale and a clydesdale. The book was called “Whale and Clydesdale.” She was very good at writing emails and listening to voicemails. Adele the snail noticed that the people of Scottsdale thought of her book as the holy grail of folk tales...if you want to read a tale that was written by Adele the snail, they’re on sale at Bloomingdales. Kayarra Rush Eli Schwartz Honorable Mention - 3rd Grade Belmont Elementary School – Mrs. Maes Honorable Mention - 4th Grade Corwin International Magnet School – Ms. Quinn Fufu Pinkwho the Whogoose My character is called Whogoose. It is half goose. Her name is Pinkwho. Pinkwho is a girl. Pinkwho likes pink. My creature’s name is Fufu. Fufu is a giraffe like animal who loves milk chocolate. He also likes to sprint around and lick things. Fufu has a two foot long tail and has nine horns on his head. He plays soccer and sharpens his horns every day. Fufu has 13 eyes and six legs. Fufu’s body temperature is -351 degrees fahrenheit and his whole body is smooth with colorful skin. Neveah Gomez Reyes Timothy Sisneros Honorable Mention - 4 Grade Baca Elementary School – Mrs. Macneilage Honorable Mention - 4th Grade South Park Elementary School – Mrs. Saenz Silly Lilly Cool Slurp th Silly Lilly is just an eight year old dragonfly and she loves to fly around and explore. I’m mostly made of blue raspberry slush and orange slush and a little bit of new purple berry slush and lemonade slush. Cool Slurp is laid back, likes the cold and is always happy. He hangs out by the freezer and talks to sad slurp. Alexis Smith Khadijah Chavez Honorable Mention - 4th Grade Highland Park Elementary School – Ms. Ribal Honorable Mention - 5th Grade Heroes K-8 Academy– Mrs. Martinez Godo This is Godo and his pet, Ollo. Godo and Ollo’s favorite food is spaghetti and pizza. They like arts and crafts, music and he loves sports! His pet, Olo, blows fancy bubbles out of his trunk too. This is Godo and Ollo, hope you like ‘em! Ballerina Fluffy Her name is Ballerina Fluffy. She lives in a circus with animals and jugglers. She eats dog food. She dances at concerts. Raliyah Bowman Gavin Cody Honorable Mention - 5th Grade Morton Elementary School – Ms. Balas Honorable Mention - 5th Grade Highland Park Elementary School – Mrs. Cruz Ted My character is a bear that is always happy. He wants to make friends and make them feel happy. He is always there because Ted doesn’t want to see anyone that is upset because it hurts Ted. He doesn’t want them to feel down. He likes when people smile. It makes him happy with joy and everyone likes Ted. He’s never mad or sad. He likes playing and everyday someone picks on Ted. They think it’s weird because he likes to be happy and Ted said, ”Well I want to be happy. I don’t want to be mad or sad.” Airfin The airfin is a unique creature that can fly above and under water. It is half dolphin and half airplane. Layla De la Luz Ijah Gurule Honorable Mention - 5th Grade Morton Elementary School – Mr. Cain Honorable Mention - 6th Grade Morton Elementary School – Mrs. Ortiz Camo Leopard Sed-Meddy She likes to fly around the world and try different foods. Sed-Meddy is a unique type of species. First of all, he is nice in the day. In the day he plants trees, walks dogs and repairs things. But he’s not so nice at night. He wrecks your house, wakes you up in the night, jumps in your bed and floods your house. Finally, he changes colors. In the day he’s completely red but at night he’s completely purple and blue. When all is said and done, do you think Sed-Meddy is a winner? Taryn Joy Plattner Honorable Mention - 5 Grade Rye Elementary School – Mrs. Abril th Flabbler Dabbler The curly haired Flabbler Dabbler is a fun. nice creature with lots of love. The Dabbler enjoys jumping and winking and lives in underwater sea caves. It eats seaweed salads everyday. Next time you’re swimming in the sea look for the curly haired Flabbler Dabbler. Aria Pasquin Honorable Mention - 6th Grade Connect Charter School – Ms. Roberts Twizles Twizles, a brave silly creature. It has specked cheeks and is surprisingly blue, not too dark but not light either. Also, a pair of overalls prepare him for any adventure. Two big eyes take up most of its big face. Brianna Meyers Honorable Mention - 7th Grade Connect Charter School – Mrs. Bouldin Needle-Heedles are a combination of the Needle Tribe from the Feedle lands and the Heedles from Weedleband. Their home is in a sewing kit and their houses are made of pin cushions because that’s where they fit. They love to eat bal-ogu-goos, it keeps them from getting the blues. Needle-Heedles are only as tall as a spool of thread but don’t let that fill you with dread. With expert sewing skills, they can make glorious creations with their large imaginations. She likes them both but between them she’s torn. She lives far away among the truffula trees. She sells loli’s and popcorn for a dollar a piece. As you can see Loli Pop is quite fair. If there ever is any type of riot, Zoinks teleports you to the destination and snaps his fingers and instantly there will be peace. Zoinks does not consider himself a superhero. Zoinks likes to think of himself as your normal robot who just wants everyone everywhere to be as happy and relaxed as he is. Zoinks will forever be the peace keeper. Be more like Zoinks.
