Non-members may receive the newsletter by e-mail as a PDF file, by request. Spectators are welcome at the Aerohawks’ flying field and clubhouse on Hebl Avenue, west on Melrose, west of HWY 218, on manicured, reclaimed land near the entrance to the Landfill. New members are welcome at any time, at any level of skill. The Club has an active, free instructional program for beginners. Membership is $50 annually, and the Club also requires that members volunteer help with work projects from time to time. Members must also join the Academy of Model Aeronautics, (the Iowa City Aerohawks are Chapter 824). Page 1 Lance Meyer agreed to take on the role as President for 2015. Club activities started right away on January 1 with chili, oyster stew and some flying. No snow on the ground and sunny skies helped bring out a large turnout of members to enjoy the new year. The swap meet day just happened to fall in line with a Green Bay playoff game so there was some fear that the turnout to the swap meet might be smaller, but there was still a large number of attendees so we had another successful swap meet. Our club made another mall appearance in front of the Children’s Museum to help benefit the Museum and to make our club visible to the public. Tim Jesky, AMA District VII Vice president came to our Air Show in 2014 and was so impressed that he asked Rich V. to give his thoughts on how to organize an event like this. Those ideas were published in the2015 March edition of the Model Aviation Magazine, giving our club some national exposure! Dave P. came out with a new look for everyone to wear, featuring yellow shirts with a P51 and “aerohawks” on the front. In May we were privileged to have the original members of the Aerohawks come to our field for some discussion of how the club started. It was great to see them and hear their stories. As the weather warmed up, it was time to think about flying. And a great way to get everyone flying is with a Fun Fly. Marc N. orchestrated a great event even when a hard rain storm came through in the middle of it. Chris Lenze came out victorious once again this year! Another great float in the parade advertised the upcoming Air Show, and everyone loved the Herky in the tow car pulling the jet. And then the Main event, the Air Show. We had another successful show with great preparation, great weather, great flying and a lot of hard work done by everyone. Added to the show this year was a very talented 9 year old Noah Vierling and also the talented 2x XFC Championships pilot Ryan Sams. Our McBride float fly was soggy wet day, but we did get some flying in and a meal at the end of the day. It was a rough day for Juerge, losing his plane and while trying to retrieve it ended up with a pretty severe allergy reaction. The fall float fly had much better weather, in fact perfect weather, which made for a great day of flying and great tasting chili! And thanks again to all of those that participated in the three ditch cleanups, Great work! And thanks to all of the board members that helped set the agenda for the year, Great job!
