On Palm Sunday we had three different presentations of the Passion Story. Drama Ministry gave their presentation at the 4:00 PM, 8:00 AM and Noon Masses. Family Liturgy gave their presentation at the 10:00 AM Mass and the Youth Group gave their presentation at the 5:00 PM Mass. We had three different casts, many rehearsals for each cast, costumes prepared and dialog written. This is an impressive example of our parish’s spirit and commitment. We received many compliments for the church decorations and music. Thank you to our parish staff, choir, liturgical dancers and the many volunteers (good stewards) who helped make this possible. Once again our parish generously responded to the Catholic Stewardship Appeal (the CSA). As you may have read in the bulletin we have surpassed our diocesan assessment and now the extra funds contributed will return to the parish for our use. We are one of the most successful parishes in the diocese thanks to so many of you. I am very grateful to the many parishioners who supported the CSA. We will begin the Church Restoration on Monday June 6. We hope to have this work completed by early August. During the Restoration work, weekend masses will be in the school gym. Since the gym was “the church” many years ago, long time parishioners will feel at home. As we get closer to June we will give you more information regarding the restoration and our temporary move to the gym. Lastly, in this bulletin there are pictures from Holy Week—from Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter (blessing Easter Food the Easter Egg Hunt!). All of this happens because of the many good stewards of St. Viator. Speaking on behalf of Brother Michael Rice, Brother Rob Robertson, Father Bill Haesaert and Father Larry Lentz, know you and your families are in our prayers. Sincerely, Father Richard Rinn, C.S.V. I was very impressed with the inclusion of all the children. I loved the ballet dancers and the wonderful parishioners who shared snacks and conversation outside in the entrance. We met several beautiful families! This is no accident! I was not familiar with St. Viator, but now I have read all the websites. Congratulations and thank you for the best experience we had while visiting Las Vegas! ~ Visitor emailed comment St. Viator Catholic Community Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, For the last 131 years the Catholic Home Missions and Black and Indian Missions Collection has played a vital role in the evangelization efforts by churches and schools among the African American, Native American, Eskimo and Aleut communities. It provides grants for the purchase of catechetical materials and bibles, and provides for the formation of lay leadership, to name just a few. Education, religious and academic, are basic fundamentals in changing the morals of a society. On the weekend of April 23 and 24 our diocese will be taking the collection in support of Catholic Home Missions and Black and Indian Missions. Your monetary donations provide children in the Indian and Black Catholic Mission Schools the opportunity for a solid Catholic education. You may not be aware that your donations play a vital role right here in the Diocese of Las Vegas by providing assistance for religious education programs and tuition assistance for our diocesan Catholic school families. I ask that you prayerfully consider your donation to the Black and Indian Missions and Catholic Home Missions Collection. Your generosity is a reflection of the depths of your faith and your willingness to help our brothers and sisters in need. Let us remember that just as the Jubilee Year of Mercy has opened the door to the faithful to experience God’s mercy, your financial commitment opens the door of faith to these Americans. History has proven that lasting change in a community can be brought to realization through faith, hope and charity. Thank you in advance for your support of this collection, together we can build up the Church. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Joseph A. Pepe, D.D., J.C.D. St. Viator Catholic Community Page 6 Stewardship @ St. Viator The Shepherd’s Flock In Christian art, the earliest depictions of Jesus Christ were not of his crucifixion or of his resurrection. The first known renderings of Jesus show him as the Good Shepherd, the image put before us in today’s readings. In the Gospel passage Jesus reveals that he is the shepherd and his followers are his “flock.” In the first and second readings, we are told more about the flock. The passage from Acts assures us that both Jews and Gentiles are called to follow Jesus. It is faith, not birthright, that makes us part of the company of believers. In the passage from the book of Revelation we learn that the flock that follows this Lamb of God will also be washed in his blood. They will endure a time of trial before they enjoy eternal life. Be assured of the promise, we are told, but know there is a price to be paid. Another way to make the year of mercy alive in your life is through an end of the day prayer to ask for - and extend - forgiveness to those you live with. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Stewardship Moment In today’s Gospel reading Jesus is quite emphatic: “My sheep hear my voice…” Those who exercise good stewardship of their prayer lives realize that hearing or listening is fundamental to prayer. Prayer is a personal encounter with the Lord and requires dialogue. Some people never learn the art of listening. When we enter into a dialogue with someone we love - we speak and we listen. Otherwise it cannot be a dialogue. Reflection This week let’s think about how we pray. Do we do all the talking and then get up and do something else? Or do we sit quietly, waiting for God’s voice to enter our hearts?
