Dear BLS Parent/Guardian, Greetings, members of the BLS community! We are the BLS Friends of the Arts (FOA), a parent group that advocates for music, drama, and visual arts at BLS. We are writing to you today because we heard that you signed your child up for one of BLS’ arts programs. We want to tell you more about the vibrant arts scene at BLS and we want to ask if you want to be part of what makes it so great. BLS is not an arts school, per se, but amazingly, by every conceivable measure it has one of the the biggest and best arts programs in the state. It serves 1,000 students who are involved in the 13 instrumental groups, 7 singing groups, and 5 theatre productions every year. In addition to these amazing performing arts opportunities, BLS offers a rich visual arts program. BLS students compete and win many prestigious arts awards, bringing great honor to the school. However, what is most important about the arts at BLS is what it means to individual kids like yours. It means making friends, finding joy, being creative, being him or herself, learning a lifelong skill, stretching and growing, being on a team, being part of the BLS community, and many, many other truly wonderful things. It’s a big deal. BLS arts as we know and enjoy it would simply not be possible without the ongoing dedication and commitment of the entire community: The faculty put forth tremendous effort every year. The school administration offers consistent and strong support. The school’s alumni organization, the Boston Latin School Association (BLSA), donates tens of thousands of dollars each year. And last, but not least, every year BLS parents support the arts programs with their time and/or money. Here are four ways you can contribute: 1. Over the course of the year, there will be several opportunities for volunteers to help out in planning, organzing and staffing arts-related events at BLS! Please consider donating a few hours of your time, if you can. 2. Join FOA and make a financial contribution. 100% of your donation will directly support BLS arts. FOA funds have paid for transport to music and drama competitions, new instruments, professional slides for AP art portfolios, lighting and sound equipment for theater productions, concert programs, costumes for the show choir…and lots more. 3. Attend FOA meetings, learn more about arts opportunities for your kids and connect with others who care about arts programs at BLS. We meet at 6:30 pm on the first Wednesday of every month in the BLS Arts Wing, 2nd Floor. 4. Skip the meetings and share your skills. Contact us an let us know what you’d like to do! Thank you so much! Your support makes art happen. Kristin Johnson Christina Yee [email protected] [email protected] Friends of the Arts Parent Co-Chairs BLS FOA Membership Form Prefer to join online?
