Competitors who have competed at Horse of the Year Show or Stoneleigh Horse Show in the last
3 years or have entered a Horse of the Year Show Showing qualifier in the last 3 years, will already
have an account on the Grandstand Online Entry System.
If you are unsure whether you are registered, or to be reminded of your Username and Password
so that you may log on to the system, please contact [email protected] and we will email
it over to you. Please be aware this may take up to 48 hours.
PLEASE NOTE: That whilst every effort has been made to allow exhibitors to enter as many
classes as possible, classes will not be held up in the event of a clash so exhibitors must be
aware of this when choosing which classes to enter.

PRIZES
CUPS AND TROPHIES
All winners of first and second prizes must compete for such Championships, Challenge Cups or
Trophies for which they are eligible as may be required by the Special Conditions applicable to the
competitions in which they have competed: in default of so doing, competition prizes will be forfeited,
at the Organiser’s discretion.
Competitors who become winners of Challenge Cups or Trophies at the Show must give security
to Grandstand Media Ltd that the Cups will be forthcoming, and delivered to the Grandstand Media
Ltd. office in good and proper condition, whole, uninjured and un-defaced on or before 1st July 2017
and if required to do so, will execute or procure the execution of a bond to this effect to the
satisfaction of the Organisers.
Competitors who become winners of Challenge Cups or Trophies at Stoneleigh Horse Show should
report to the Equestrian Office where a Prize Card must be completed before cups can be collected.
Trophies that are not collected during the show may be collected afterwards from the offices at
Grandstand Media Ltd., provided prior arrangements have been made. The Organisers will not
undertake to forward trophies by post or carriers after the Show to prize winners. Overseas
competitors will not be allowed to remove any Cup(s) from Great Britain.
Please note that due to their value, some trophies will not be able to be taken away from the
showground and will only be available for the presentation.
SHOW ADMISSION
General admission to Stoneleigh Horse Show is free of charge. However parking charges will
apply for visitors.
HOSPITALITY
Exclusive hospitality packages are available. Hospitality will be housed adjacent to the
Championship Arena. Hospitality at these Championships offers a delightful experience for you and
your guests and is the perfect place at the event to entertain clients, celebrate with friends and
family and enjoy the competition.

PARKING
No caravan or mobile home will be admitted to the showground or tent sited on the showground
without a valid camping pass. Cars towing caravans must be parked in the caravan area.
All car parking will be charged at £5 per day on arrival. No complimentary parking will be available
on site, with the exception of pre-arranged VIP parking.

MARK SHEETS
If applicable, showing mark sheets will be posted on the results board outside the Equestrian Office.
Please note, these are only available for certain classes. Copies will be available to download from
the website www.stoneleighhorseshow.co.uk within one month of the show ending.
GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
Every exhibitor, competitor, owner, rider, handler, driver and/or producer (hereinafter known as
“Competitor”) at the Stoneleigh Horse Show must make themselves conversant with these General
Rules and Regulations, in addition to the Special Conditions applicable to the various Classes and
Competitions. Competitors may only compete on the understanding that they comply with, and are
bound by these Rules and Regulations and the Special Conditions relating to each Class or
Competition.
1.
ONSITE STABLING
ALL STABLING IS SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY AND IS OBTAINABLE ON A FIRST COME

Horses and ponies must be removed from their stables by this time, which must be strictly adhered
to. Grandstand Media Ltd. reserves the right to charge the daily rate for that stable and/or additional
fines imposed by Grandstand Media Ltd. to any person failing to remove their horse/pony from any
stable by the designated time, it further reserves the right to deduct such charge from any prize
money due and entries may be refused for future shows.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL STABLES MUST BE VACATED BY 19.00 ON SUNDAY 14TH AUGUST.
Stabling is available subject to capacity. Applications must be made online or using the appropriate
paper form and fees paid in full. The final date for application is 25th July 2016. Stables are sold
on a first come, first served basis.
If stallion stables are required, please indicate in the Stallion Box section on your application.
1.1 Emergency Contact Stable Card (ECSC)
ECSCs must be obtained from the Stable Manager’s Office upon arrival at the Show. It is the
responsibility of the owner/competitor to complete the card in full and affix to their horse’s stable
door for the duration of their stay at the show.

d. Cars which are not towing a horse trailer, caravans and motor homes are not permitted
in the Horsebox Park.
e. All caravans and motor homes must be parked in the official campsite area, which must
be pre booked before arrival.

While every reasonable effort will be made to contact the owner/competitor of the animal, if
unsuccessful, the Veterinary Surgeon will treat the animal as he/she finds necessary.
1.2 Reception or Removal
Horses or ponies for which stable accommodation has been reserved will be received at the Show
on or after (and not before) 17.00 on Thursday 11th August 2016.
Horses and ponies will not be admitted prior to this time. All horses and ponies, upon arrival at the
Show, will be subject to the rules and regulations of the Show. All animals must be removed from
the showground by 19.00 on Sunday 14th August 2016.
1.3 Bedding and Forage

CAMP SITE
Camping facilities are available onsite. These can be booked at the time of making your entry.
Pitches are available from 15.00 on Monday 8th August. All pitches must be vacated by 18.00 on
Sunday 14th August.
ALL CAMPING PITCHES ARE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY
CAMPING CHARGES
Only SHAVINGS or similar products may be used. Bedding will not be provided. A limited amount
of the following may be purchased at the time of entry and from the Stable Managers Office;
HorseHage Forage; Spillers Horse Feed and Safemix Bedding. All items available on a first come
first serve basis.
DUE TO FIRE REGULATIONS, ABSOLUTELY NO STRAW WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE
SHOWGROUND, INCLUDING IN HORSEBOXES.
1.4 Cancellation/Changes of Stabling
There will be NO REFUNDS for stabling and no changes/transfers of any booked stables.
2.
LIVED-IN HORSEBOXES
Bookings are subject to availability ONLY. Passes for the relevant horsebox park will be posted to
competitors before the show.
If you require an additional horsebox pass, please email [email protected]. Additional
passes are not guaranteed and will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis dependent on availability.
Under no circumstances will a lived-in horsebox space be reserved for a competitor unless the
official entry form has been completed correctly and returned to: The Show Secretary, British
Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show, Grandstand Media Ltd,
Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, CV8 2LZ by 25th July 2016.
3.
ON ARRIVAL AT THE SHOW
On arrival at the show, if applicable competitors should report to the Stable Manager's Office where
their stable booking will be confirmed.
Please note that competitors with horses and/or ponies arriving at Stoneleigh Park will not be
admitted between the hours of 20.00 and 06.00.
Due to FIRE REGULATIONS and the licence issued by Warwick District Council, the following will
be strictly enforced:
a. All lived-in horseboxes will be sited by Grandstand Media Ltd. personnel at the required
distance and should not be moved before leaving the showground.
b. All competitors/grooms living in horseboxes must ensure that they know the location of
the nearest fire point and fire-fighting equipment.
c. All vehicles must be equipped with a fire extinguisher.

5.
LIVED-IN HORSEBOXES WITH PORT-A-LOOS
Occupants of lived-in horseboxes with their own toilet facilities may not empty them on the
showground. Anyone found to be emptying Port-a-loos or similar at NAEC, Stoneleigh Park will be
removed from site and liable to any charges imposed by the organisers. There are a number of
permanent toilet blocks around the site.
6.
PAYMENTS AND VAT
Payments for entry fees can be made in various ways, whether you enter online or manually,
including cash, cheque, debit cards, credit cards and postal orders. Cheques will not be accepted
after 22nd July 2016 or onsite. Cheques to be made payable to Grandstand Media Ltd.
VAT is applicable to stabling, vehicle parking, and bedding, and has been included in the quoted
prices at 20%.
7.
STABLE AREAS AND HORSEBOX PARK
7.1 Personal Belongings
Please note, any items left within the stabling area and horsebox park are left at the owners own
risk. Grandstand Media Ltd. will not be held responsible for any items left unattended.
7.2 Unauthorised use of stables
Any competitor or his/her representative who enters or makes use of any stable that has not been
officially reserved for his/her use will be liable for the daily charge for that stable and/or additional
fines imposed by Grandstand Media Ltd. We reserve the right to deduct any charges from any prize
money due and entries may be refused for future shows.
7.3 Smoking and Fire Risks


No smoking will be permitted in or near the stable area
No straw will be allowed on the showground, this includes straw in horseboxes and
trailers




No hay may be stored under or near to any vehicle in the Horsebox Park at any time,
but may be stored inside the horsebox.
Additional containers containing flammable liquids/gases are not permitted to be stored
outside of lorries or caravans.
The use or possession of barbeques of any type will not be permitted at any time in the
Horsebox Park or elsewhere on the showground.
HIGH QUALITY DUST-EXTRACTED BEDDING
IF FOUND, ANY OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED ARTICLES WILL BE CONFISCATED AND
REMOVED BY THE STABLE TEAM.

7.4 Electrical Hook-Up and Generators
Optional electrical hook-up is available to be purchased at the time of making an entry. No vehicle
will be connected to the power supply that does not display a valid pass. There is no charge to park
any horseboxes that is not connected to the electrical hook-up.

7.5 Motorised Vehicles
The use of electrical buggies, motor cycles, motor scooters and other internal combustion machines
is FORBIDDEN on the showground. Authorised vehicles ONLY.
Please note: Disability scooters are permitted for those who require them.
7.6 Dogs
All dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. No dogs are permitted in the competition areas of the
showground including but not limited to competition and exercise arenas, with the exception of
assistance dogs.

ENTRIES

INCOMPLETE PAPER ENTRY FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AND WILL BE RETURNED.
Competitors must be bona fide owners (or such persons nominated by the owner to be their
authorised agent to make the entry on the owner’s behalf) at the closing date of entry of the
horses/ponies which they are entering.
The person who made the original entry will be considered the owner (or their authorised
representative) and he/she alone will be recognised as being entitled to any cups or prize money
which may be won by the entries made by him/her. Entries must be made on the official Entry Form
or via the official Online Entry System at www.grandstandentries.com and must be duly
completed and authorised by the Competitor or their authorised agent.
It cannot be guaranteed that entries processed after 25th July 2016 will appear in the
programme. Entries are accepted subject to any unforeseen circumstances, including but not
limited to, military exigencies, strikes, or other civil disturbances, fire or other contingencies of any
description preventing or rendering it undesirable in the opinion of the organisers for the Show to
take place. All entries shall stand for any postponed Show unless withdrawn by written notice to the
Show Secretary within one week of notification or public announcement in the press of such
postponement. The postponement or abandonment of the Show, either before the opening or at
any time during the course of the Show, shall not give rise to any claim whatsoever against the
Show or the Organisers by the competitors or others except for refund of prepaid entries in respect
of classes or competitions not held. In the case of postponement a refund will only be made in
respect of entries duly withdrawn.
10.
AUTHORISED AGENTS
Any Entry Form (manual or online), objection or other document required by these Rules to be
signed by a Competitor may be accepted if signed on behalf of the Competitor by an agent whom
the Organisers are satisfied is duly authorised to do so.
11.
ENTRY FEES
No entry will be accepted without the appropriate fees. In the event of returned cheques or
otherwise, an administration fee of £45.00 will be charged and the entry refused until such time
that full settlement is made, which must be before close of entries.
12.
SUBSTITUTIONS
No alterations or substitutions of any entry will be allowed after the closing date of entries without
permission of the Show Secretary. Entries must therefore be made in the appropriate competition(s)
or class(es) for which animals are eligible.
13.
AGE AND HEIGHT
In any height restricted classes competitors must ensure they fulfil any requirements for a valid Joint
Measurement Board Annual or Full Height Certificate as per individual class guidelines.
The age and height of each horse/pony entered and any other specific particulars must be
accurately stated on the entry form if required by the conditions of the competition. A false
declaration or mis-statement of any kind, including change of name of a horse/pony, incorrect
description or false declaration of prizes won at horse shows, may at the discretion of the
Organisers; disqualify a competitor from the Show and the horse/pony entered from any prize and
from entering or being entered again at the Show.
In particular, a mis-statement as to the height will automatically render the animal ineligible for any
judging or prizes. Competitors must be prepared to verify any statement made in a manner required

by the Organisers. All entries must be made in the name of the horse/pony under which it is
registered with the relevant association/society and must correspond with the name shown on the
Annual or Full JMB Certificate and National Passport at all times.
14.
DECLINING ENTRIES
The Organisers may at their absolute discretion, decline any entry, exclude or remove any person
or animal from the Show or future Shows or return any entry fee without being required to assign
any reason or being liable for any compensation.
15.
FORFEITURE OF FEES AND CHARGES
Failure to exhibit any animal entered will entail forfeiture of entry fees and charges for stabling,
passes and horsebox parking if appropriate. No refund will be made in any circumstances.
16.
CANCELLATION OF CLASSES
Any competition for which there are not at least four entries under the ownership of different
competitors may be cancelled. Competitors in the cancelled competition will be notified and may,
at their option up to the 25th July 2016, transfer the entries originally made to other competitions for
which the animals originally entered may be eligible.
17.
PROGRAMME AND CONDITIONS
The Organisers reserve to themselves the right to alter the timings, cancel, add to or amend any of
the competitions, as necessities of the programme may require, increasing or reducing the number
of Sections, and amend the Prize Money in such cases.
18.
JUDGING
In all competitions, the Judges will select such animals in each class as they consider eligible for
prizes of commendation. When they deem a veterinary examination necessary, such examination
will be made before the prizes are awarded. This veterinary examination will be conducted by the
show Veterinary Surgeons whose decisions shall be final and the result of such examination will be
considered as confidential. No second opinion may be given. The Veterinary Surgeons may
approach a Judge to enable consultation over an animal’s soundness.
Further, the Judges shall have power at their discretion to withhold any prize for want of merit or
any cause.
19.
NO ADMISSION TO THE SHOW ARENA(S)
No person shall enter the Show Arena(s), which includes any space enclosed or set apart for
judging, or hold any communication with any Judge or examining Veterinary Surgeon without the
signed permission of the Organisers or one of the Show Officials.
20.
EXERCISE
No horse or pony will be allowed into the Competition Arenas for exercise at any time.
No horse or pony will be allowed into the external Exercise Areas, except at such times as are
announced or posted, or as stated in the timetable.
If the outside exercise arena is closed, then under no circumstances is anyone on the showground
permitted to use any arena for exercise. Grandstand Media Ltd. will accept no liability for any
accident or injury for any party failing to adhere to the rules as set out in this schedule.

The Stewards in charge of the Collecting Ring will have sole control of the entrance and exits to the
Show Arena. All competitors must present their horses and ponies at the Collecting Ring prior to
admission to the Show Ring. Each horse/pony must be in the Collecting Ring ready to enter the
Show Arena at least 30 minutes before the time specified on the daily programme for the judging
of the competition in which it is entered, otherwise it will forfeit the right to compete in that
competition. This rule will be strictly enforced and horses/ponies arriving late will not be permitted
to enter the Show Arena.
22.
DRESS
Protective headgear must be worn by anybody riding a horse for any reason unless service uniform
is being worn.
Correctly secured British Standard Skull Caps/Riding Hats that meet current approved BSI or
European Safety Standards MUST be worn by riders 18 years and under, riders competing in
intermediate, Mountain and Moorland classes and by riders in any jumping class.
Where grooms or attendants are permitted to enter the arena during preliminary or final judging they
must be correctly and smartly dressed.
23.
NUMBERS
No substitution will be permitted unless the Duty Veterinary Surgeon certifies that the declared horse
has become unfit to compete since the time of declaration.
23.1 Showing
Waist numbers will be issued and must be worn during competitions. These will be sent out prior to
the show.
24.
DECORATIONS
No animal may, except in Championships, be decorated with any prize rosettes until after it has
been judged. Rosettes will not be duplicated if lost or mislaid except at the expense of the
competitor, and should, therefore, be carefully preserved.
25.
PARADING
All animals must be paraded whenever so ordered by the Organisers or an authorised Show Official.
Any failure to comply with this rule may result in disqualification from competing and forfeiture of
prizes.
26.
VETERINARY SURGEONS, DOCTORS AND FARRIER
The services of a Veterinary Surgeon, Medical Personnel and Farrier will be available on the
showground or on call, day and night. All costs will be the responsibility of the
rider/driver/owner/handler.
27.
MEDICATION CONTROL

For showing competitions, the Organisers reserve the right to instruct a Veterinary Surgeon or Chief
Steward to take random tests on horses and ponies in any competition at the Show. These tests
will be carried out in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of British Showjumping.
Should Grandstand Media Ltd. subsequently, at any time, be advised by a governing body that a
positive dope test carried out at the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh
Horse Show 2016 has been recorded against an animal competing at the show, Grandstand Media
Ltd. will automatically disqualify the animal concerned.
28.
INCIVILITY
I.
Any act of discourtesy or disobedience to any Judge, Steward or to any Show Official
on the part of the competitor, groom, rider, driver or agent of an animal, will, at the
discretion of such Official, disqualify that animal from being judged, in which case
entry fees, prizes and charges will be forfeited.
II.
Incivility, at any stage, towards a Show Official is unacceptable and, at the complete
discretion of the Show Organisers, may result in the offender being asked to leave the
Show or made subject to sanctions including, but not limited to, a fine, suspension or
exclusion from any part of the Show. In this connection, exhibitors and competitors
are reminded of their responsibility for the actions of others, in accordance with the
terms of Rule 30.
29.
OBJECTIONS
Any objection or protest is to be lodged by obtaining a printed Objection Form from the Show
Secretary at the Show which must be completed by and signed by the Objector and delivered to
the Show Secretary accompanied by a deposit of £100.00 in cash within 30 minutes after the
results have been announced in the arena, in respect of which the objection is lodged.
Grandstand Media Ltd. is unable to accept objections involving Joint Measurement Board (JMB)
certificates. The objection shall be determined by the Appeals Committee who may require and
receive such evidence as they think fit and in particular may require the Objector or the Competitor
in respect of which such objection was lodged to make a statutory declaration upon any question of
fact concerning the matter of such objection.
If the objection shall be determined against the Objector, he shall also be liable to the Show for the
amount of costs and expenses occasioned by the objection and the determination thereof, unless
in the opinion of the Organisers who determine the objection there existed good and reasonable
grounds for the objection, when they may order to the contrary.
30.
DISQUALIFICATION
In the event of any animal being disqualified whether as the result of any objection or otherwise, the
winner of the next succeeding prize in that competition shall take the prize awarded to such
disqualified animal. The result of the class will be reset as if the disqualified animal had not taken
part in the competition.
31.
RESPONSIBILITY
The organisers of the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show
have no liability to the competitor for any accident, injury, damage, illness, disease or other loss
occurring to the competitor’s property and/or animals and shall only have liability to the competitor
for personal injury or death to the extent caused by or contributed to by their negligence.

The competitor shall be responsible to the Organising Team of the British Showjumping National
Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show, their principals and Grandstand Media Ltd for losses
suffered by them to the extent that it arises from or is contributed to in any way by any act, neglect
or omission by the competitor or by any person for whom or of any animal for which the competitor
is responsible.
Competitors must have in place adequate, sufficient third party insurance cover for the participation
at the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show 2016
All children under the age of 14, must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times while on
the showground. Each competitor will be considered responsible in all aspects for the attendants in
charge of their animals and for any other servants or agents of theirs for the consequences of any
infringement by any such persons of these Rules and Regulations.
32.
INSURANCES
All exhibitors, competitors, owners, riders, handlers, drivers and/or producers, members of displays
etc. at the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show are personally
responsible for damages to any building, land, equipment or otherwise on the Showground or other
areas of the NAEC, Stoneleigh Park or to any third persons caused by themselves, their employees,
their agents or their horses. It is a requirement that they have in force third-party insurance providing
full coverage for participation in or at the British Showjumping National Championships and
Stoneleigh Horse Show. Such insurance cover for third party liability should be for no less than
£2million.
33.
DECISIONS
The decision of the Organisers (including their employees, representatives and show officials) the
Veterinary Surgeons and any Judges upon any of the matters required by the foregoing Rules to
be decided or directed by any such persons or bodies including any question of height or soundness
or want of merit or exclusion from final judging or granting of any permission or otherwise shall be
final and binding in all respects and no objection shall be made on account thereof nor shall any
appeal lie there from on any ground whatever.
34.
ORGANISERS POWERS
Subject hereinafter provided the organisers shall have power:

To interpret these Rules and Regulations and the Special Conditions applicable to the
competitions and to appoint Stewards and Officials for the enforcement thereof and for the
purposes of the Show generally and such persons shall have full power accordingly.
II.
The right to make amendments to the Schedule, the General Rules and Regulations of the
British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show or any of the
Show’s classes and their associated rules as necessary at any time and use reasonable
endeavours to notify such changes to each entered competitor. Any such change will be
displayed in the Stable Manager’s office at the show.
III.
In addition to the provisions relating to Objections to determine any matter, question or
difference whatever arising out of or connected with or incident to the Show or to these Rules
and Regulations and the Special Conditions and the decisions of such Stewards and Officials
shall be final and binding and no appeal shall lie there from, and shall also have power in
case of emergency or expediency to suspend or relax any Rule or Regulation for such period
and to such extent and in such manner as they think fit.

results thereof. For all Horse of the Year Show qualifying classes, should there be a conflict between
such association or society rules and the ‘General Rules and Regulations’ of Horse of the Year

will prevail.
36.
No placard or notices of any description shall be placed on any stall, vehicle or circulated in the
Show without the signed permission of the Organisers.
37.
PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO CAMERAS
The use of cameras and video cameras or such other photographic or filming equipment is strictly
limited to personal use and may not be used for any commercial gain.
38.
TELEVISION/ VIDEO/ FILMING/MARKETING
It is a condition of participation at Stoneleigh Horse Show that all participants agree to allow official
photography and recording of themselves and their property during any part of the show. It is a
further condition of participation that all participants allow all such photographed and recorded
materials to be used, at the Organiser's discretion, for broadcasting, future promotion and/or
publicity in respect of the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse
Show, its sponsors and partners.
Your details will be passed to the official photographers and videographers in order that they may
contact you after the event. Should you not wish for this information to be passed, please advise
the Show Secretary accordingly at the time of entry.
By submitting your entry form, you indicate your consent to receiving email marketing from us,
providing you with relevant sponsor information and offers. To opt out of this, please email
[email protected] stating the name of the event in the subject of your email.
39.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Competitors must adhere to any Health and Safety policies issued to them from time to time by the
Organisers. These will be displayed in the Stable Manager’s Office and the Show Office on the
showground.
40.
HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY
The Organiser has the overall responsibility for Health and Safety. The Show is organised in
accordance with Health and Safety Legislation and all who have (to any extent) control of premises
or site at the show are responsible for ensuring that:

Emergency services must have access to all parts of the show site at all times and members
of the public must not park vehicles so as to obstruct access.

In the case of an emergency, members of the public should contact the nearest official or
steward.

Horses
Horses can easily be frightened and can be dangerous. Members of the public are requested to
keep clear from horse areas and to avoid behaviour that might alarm horses. Children must be
supervised by parents/guardians at all times.
41.
Control Performance
NOISE CURFEW
Feeding can improve how your horse performs.
Some competition horses need a little extra
sparkle. Others require more control.
For residents living adjacent to the NAEC, Stoneleigh Park the organisers in line with Warwick
District Council orders are imposing a noise curfew on the showground (including the stable area
and horsebox parking area) between the hours of 23.00 and 06.30 on each day. Accordingly, every
competitor must use their best endeavours to ensure that noise generated in these areas is kept to
an absolute minimum, so as not to cause a nuisance to neighbouring residents.

SPECIAL RULES RELATING TO SHOWING
1.
SPECIAL NOTICE REGARDING MEMBERSHIPS
Uniquely at Stoneleigh Horse Show, there will be no membership stipulations for any
showing classes, including Horse of the Year Show qualifiers. Before any qualification is
verified for Horse of the Year Show, competitors who are not current members of the relevant
Society must become so within 7 working days of the date of the qualifier.
Any horses or ponies who have qualified in a height restricted section, who are not currently
registered with the relevant society, must be in possession of a current/valid JMB height
certificate for the final, a copy of which must be submitted at time of entry for Horse of the
Year Show. Registration with the relevant society must also be completed at the time of entry
for Horse of the Year Show.

The following closing dates will be strictly adhered to and entries received after the relevant closing
date will not be accepted. Correct entry fees, fully completed entry form and stabling charges must
be submitted at the time of entry or the entry will not be processed.

ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY FEES

i)
All entries must be made in accordance with the General Rules, Regulations and the additional
conditions of the specific competition. Entry Fees are as stated in the conditions of each
individual competition. No entry will be accepted without the appropriate fee and no refunds will
be made.
ii) In any height restricted classes competitors must ensure they fulfil any requirements for a valid
Joint Measurement Board Annual or Full height certificate as per individual class guidelines.
iii) The Joint Measurement Board rules concerning height objections will apply.
iv) All entries must be made in the name of the horse/pony under which it is registered with the
relevant association/society and must correspond with the name shown on the Annual or Full
JMB Certificate and National Passport at all times.
v) The age and height of each horse/pony entered and any other specific particulars must be
accurately stated on the entry form if required by the conditions of the competition. A false
declaration or mis-statement of any kind, including change of name of a horse/pony, incorrect
description or false declaration of prizes won at horse shows, may at the discretion of the
Organisers; disqualify a competitor from the show and the horse/pony entered from any prize
and from entering or being entered again at the show. Competitors must be prepared to verify
any statement made in a manner required by the Organisers.
7.
DRESS, SADDLERY AND ACCESSORIES
i)
Hard hats must be worn to the current approved BSI standard by riders 18 years and under,
riders competing in Intermediate, Mountain and Moorland classes and riders in the jumping
phase of the Working Hunter.
ii) It is advised that all mounted competitors should wear an appropriately fitted hard hat applicable
to the relevant section in which they are competing.
iii) For classes run under ‘The Showing Rules of Horse of the Year Show’, the following will be
implemented and must be adhered to:

SPURS
Spurs may not be worn in any pony classes run under ‘The Showing Rules of Horse of the Year
Show’.
WHIPS AND CANES
Whips and canes must not exceed 75cm (30inches) in length in pony classes. In Lead Rein classes,
plain or leather covered canes only may be carried. Hunting crops are allowed.
SADDLERY
For classes run under ‘The Showing Rules of Horse of the Year Show’, the following will be
implemented and must be adhered to:

Ponies competing in the Mini Show Pony (First Ridden and Lead Rein), Lead Rein Pony of
Hunter Type and the Mountain & Moorland Lead Rein competitions must be shown in snaffle
bridles. In lead rein classes the lead rein must only be attached to the noseband.
Ponies competing in the Mountain & Moorland First Ridden Pony, Junior Mountain &
Moorland Pony, Children’s Riding Pony or Show Hunter Pony and animals competing in the
Intermediate Show Riding Type and Intermediate Show Hunter must be shown in a suitable
bridle.
Ponies competing in the Working Hunter Pony classes and horses competing in the
Intermediate Working Hunter and Cuddy Working Hunter may wear suitable bridles (including
nosebands) and running martingales.

8. JUDGING AND CONDUCT

No horse or pony may enter the show arena after the judging process has begun and the
Steward has closed the arena. In the event of a handler/rider having to leave the show arena
during the judging of a competition, this can only be allowed with the permission of the
Judge(s) officiating and is conditional on that handler/rider returning to the show arena for the
final assessment and presentation of awards.
In all riding competitions, with the exception of children’s pony competitions, the Judges may
ride the exhibits if they consider it necessary to determine their respective merits.
In all hunter and cob classes, judges are requested to satisfy themselves that the horses
exhibited are up to, and do not exceed, the weights laid down in the conditions of the class.
Any rider falling off within the show arena during the course of a competition will be
disqualified and asked to leave the arena dismounted.
The Organiser reserves the right to display or announce the marks as they occur and to make
public commentary during each class, which may be increased, for public information and
enjoyment. This may include declaring the competitor’s/breeder’s/owner’s names and any
other information it feels necessary.
It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure they enter the show arena in their correct
section for the class entered. Any competitor found to be exhibiting in a section for which they
are not entered must leave the ring immediately and will be automatically disqualified from
any other section of that class.
9. MARKING SYSTEMS
Marking systems will be used as laid down in the rules of the relevant association/society or ‘The
Showing Rules of Horse of the Year Show’, whichever may apply to the relevant competition.

This competition is for Working Hunters, any weight, mares, geldings or stallion (competing stallions
must have a red, white and blue ribbon displayed in their tail) four years old or over, exceeding
148cm, to be ridden. Any horse which has qualified as a Grade A Show Jumper or Advanced Event
Horse as at 1st January in the current year is not eligible to compete in Working Hunter classes.
In order for qualification to be verified for Horse of the Year Show, horses must become registered
with the British Show Horse Association, and all Riders, Owners and Producers must become
Members of the British Show Horse Association as per Special Rule 1 of this schedule.
Course requirements: Fences will not exceed 1.14m (3ft 9ins) in height. Minimum of 8 fences and
a maximum of 12 fences, the course will contain a combination and may contain a water tray. This
class will be judged in two parts. Part One (Jumping) will be judged first, without a jump-off. All clear
rounds and any other horses the judges may require will go forward to the next part. A rider can
ride up to two horses in the jumping phase but then must select only one horse to take forward into
the ride and conformation section if so required (no change of rider is allowed).

Ponies must not exceed the height limits as stipulated by the relevant breed Societies.
All riders must have attained their 10th birthday before the 1st January in the current year, and not

Riders must not compete in both the M&M Lead Rein/First Ridden Pony of the Year and the
Junior M&M Pony of the Year at Horse of the Year Show, if qualification for Horse of the Year
Show is achieved in both classes the rider must nominate the class they wish to compete in.
