Hey OCers!
As I write this, snow is falling on our mountains. And as you read this, all of our out
West trips have opened. If you didn’t get
on your favorite trip, remember to have
your name added to the waiting list. I know
that we usually use the waiting list, so
don’t get discouraged if you’re on one.

I want to take this time to thank all of our volunteers that
help us with everything we do. We could not make things run
half as smooth as they do without you. Every time we have an
event, it takes people to run it. I am always amazed at how
we all pull together and get things done. So, my ski hat goes
off for all of you skiers who raise your hand to make our
club. We have a lot of laughs and fun while doing it! Keep it
up and bring a friend too! Thank you all!
Andiamo colpire le piste! (Let’s hit the slopes!)

ummer is gone & Fall has just started. That
means ski season is right around the corner!
With the Albany Snow Expo & Ski Show taking
place this month, we are even closer to that
first ski day. The OC Family Ski Season has also
started going into high gear with the Family
Trip to Smuggler’s Notch sign-up started last
month. This year the trip will take place on
Martin Luther King weekend. The Family Group
and all OC Members will be able to take advantage of a super deal on a holiday weekend
starting on Friday, January 18th through Monday the 21st. This trip will offer two and three
night stay options per condo.
Here we are in November and some snow has fallen in
Vermont and at Whiteface. Hey, I hope it's not a bad
omen after the early snow last year!! Excitement is in
the air! The Trips are opening up and the Day Bus
Schedule is pretty well set! The Ski and Snowboard
Expo is in full swing this weekend. The Applicant Party
is on the 8th. The Warren Miller Movie is the 16th and
17th. Are you ready to rock the Slopes yet? We are!
Some things to Remember:
 Carry your Applicant or Membership Cards when signing up
for trips or riding the Buses.

You can sign up for day buses at a Thursday meeting, on the
website (PayPal) and on the bus ride home each week.
THERE ARE NO EMAIL SIGNUPS!

Don't forget to check the Website for any cancellations or
changes to any activities, trips and buses.

Send all questions for the Skiing Committees through the
email addresses/website and always CC me at
[email protected]. You will definitely receive a reply
within the shortest possible timeframe.

Read through the Ski Club Policies regarding any activity you
plan to participate in, especially the Trips and BUS Policies,
so that you know the procedures you need to follow; what is
required; and what is expected. It will save time if you read
the information in advance.
* We are ALL volunteers and you can be too! Ask about
helping. Many hands make light work.

We do our best to offer a variety so there is always something
for everyone. Remember to thank the volunteers whenever
you can.

Watch the Web, Liftline & FaceBook for things happening at
the resorts or the local shops. We will try to promote anything
that may be of interest to our members! Send an email to the
VP's if you hear of something and we will get it on the Web &
FaceBook pages. If there is still time, we'll get it in the LiftLine
(we do our articles by the 10th of each month for the next issue).
OC Family will also be scheduling a full array of
additional events and ski dates for this coming
2012-2013 ski season as well as coordinating
with all of the varied committees to set up a
great selection of Family ski days & buses available for your enjoyment. Again this season I
will be reaching out to Family members for volunteers as Family Bus Coordinators & Event Assistants. So if you are able to help out, please
contact me.
Are you on my Email list for Family updates and
events? I would appreciate it if you would drop
me an email at [email protected] to assist
me in updating my list and remove any names
that are no longer valid.

IS YOUR EQUIPMENT READY TO GO
SKIING?
Have you checked out your ski gear since last season ? The most important piece of equipment is
your boots. Try the boots on to see if they feel
right. If you don’t have custom footbeds for your
boots, now is the time to consider buying them. In
addition to comfort, performance of the skis will
change dramatically when flex, stance and alignment are tuned in. The edges of modern skis are
meant to engage simultaneously. Balance starts
with the feet.
If you want to learn more make sure you attend our
clinics:


Stance & Alignment Clinic at the PCC Thursday, November 15th at 7:00 PM. This clinic will
be conducted by a professional boot fitter. This
event is open to everyone. Bring your boots if
you wish. The result could be a pronounced
change in your skiing.
VP of Skiing reported:
 Two trips opened Oct. 4th: Okemo Lessons and Luxury, the
annual “Never Ever” trip (Dec. 14th – 16th) and Smuggler’s
Notch Family Trip, Martin Luther King Weekend.
 The Alpine Bus Committee is still tweaking the bus schedules. Preliminary schedule to be in the October Liftline.
 Meetings and indoor training for ski instruction will begin
this month.
 Ski and Snowboard Expo is November 2nd – 4th. Volunteers
are needed and can sign up with Kathy Howard.
 Warren Miller movie at the Palace Theater November 16 th
and 17th.
Ski Tuning Clinic at the PCC Thursday, January 17,2013 7:00 PM SHARP for the care of
your skis.
THE OC SKI CLUB SNOWSPORTS SCHOOL is a
PSIA Certified Snowsports School. We provide
coaching for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities on all Sunday Trips and most weekday trips.
This is a no cost benefit for all OC’ers. Prior arrangements for Snowboard and Beginner lessons
is appreciated. For more details, stop by the Snowsports School table at any meeting or see us at the
Snow Expo.
New Business:
 Overnight Parking: The PCC was approached and they can
accommodate us at a cost of $500 for the year. The motion
to pay the PCC $500 for overnight parking passed unanimously.
 Committee Head Vote: Jill Bryce was approved as Public
Relations Chair and Amber Bleau was approved as House
Chair.
Other: A preliminary report was given on the Volleyball Tournament. There was an increase in this year’s profit over last
year. There were 74 teams this year that participated. Last year
62 teams participated.

All Albany Alpine buses will start at Crossgates.
No more McCarty lot starts!
The new ski/boarding season is coming fast. The first bus is scheduled for Sunday after Thanksgiving (11/25)
to Killington. The first Friday Bus is Dec. 14 to Stratton. The schedule has been posted on the Web site as well
as in the LiftLine. We still have some tweaks to do for racing, happy hour buses, and Winter Carnival. We are
also looking into a date to Sugarbush to take
advantage of the Warren Miller free passes.
So visit our table at meetings or watch the
weekly email for updates.
The big change this season is the location
of the Albany Saturday and Sunday bus
starts. We will still leave at 6:30 but
from the Crossgates Parking lot, near JC
Penny’s. This lot is used exclusively for
Brown’s bus trips. It lies between the I87
exit/entrance and the entrance to
Crossgates Commons off the perimeter
road.
Just a quick review of bus procedures: All bus
seats are prepay – online, at meetings or even on the bus (We collect for upcoming trips on every bus ride—ask
the bus leader on the return trip home.) Remember to bring CASH to pay for lift tickets on the bus. Exact
change is appreciated. When buses fill up, we keep a wait list and use that at the second stop to fill any empty
seats. If you haven’t prepaid for a seat, you MUST go to the second stop to board the bus if seats are available.
Members pay $10 and guests of members are $15. On Family buses, family members under age 18 pay $10 per
seat. Anyone over 18 is considered a guest and pays the $15. Family buses are designed to introduce kids to
the Club so when they turn 18, they join the Club.
Please put your name and phone number on your
boot bags, ski/board bags, and any other bags or
small coolers you bring. This way we can identify
and make arrangements to return lost items to
their owners. Every year we end up with a lost
and found collection of hats, gloves, boots and
other odd items. Buy luggage tags at Fundraising. They are cheap and do the trick.
Note the loading pattern on buses. No bags are
stored on seats. Bags on the buses must go under your seat or in the over head bin or in your
lap! The order of bins under the bus is 1st bin is
bags for Crossgates, 2nd bin is for skis, poles,
and boards (in bags) for Crossgates, 3rd bin is
for bags for the second stop (Clifton Park or
Troy) and the 4th bin is for equipment for the
8
second stop. This allows us to pack in the most items. You can load stuff from both sides of the bus if necessary. Just be careful at the second stop to keep an eye out for oncoming cars.
We always share food on the ride home. Veggies, crackers, cheese, meats, cookies, chips, nuts, and popcorn make
good snacks to pass around. Of course shrimp and other gourmet items are welcome. We hand out bottles of water on the bus for the ride home. No red wine is allowed but other drinks with lids to prevent spilling are ok. We
always prowl the bus for nickel returnables, as we use that money to pay for the water we hand out. Please,
please don’t put garbage in the returnable bag, usually black. There are separate garbage bags throughout the
bus for trash.
When you leave the bus, be sure you have all your belongings. Throw out your trash and leave your seat area
clean. The bus leader will check the bus at Crossgates and clean up the trash. The OC’s pride themselves on
leaving clean buses for Browns. You can pick up lost items at the following Thursday meeting. Don’t call us in a
panic and want us to deliver to your home. We are not an airline and don’t offer this service. LOL!
See Fred or Sylvia at meetings, it you have any questions. We are happy to help you have a great snowsports season riding the bus with us. See you on the bus.

Administratively Speaking
WELCOME APPLICANTS!!!!!
Gail Marotti-Hossan,
or, in some cases, – welcome back!!!!
VP Admin
We are happy that you’ve chosen to join the OC
SKI CLUB this year and we will strive to live up
to your expectations of the Club...
Winter is rapidly approaching and
with that we have many great
events to look forward to!!!! OF
course, there is the skiing but that is Eileen’s to write
about – (see page 3).
But, first there is the matter of that large colored card you exchanged $40 for when you visited the Applicant Table.
Be sure to visit the EGG on the 1st weekend of November. Kathy Howard is lining up a great Expo
Booth. When you visit the mountain/vendor booths,
don’t forget to sign up for whatever contests they are
offering and proudly wear your pin. Let them know
that the OC SKI CLUB supports their venue. And
don’t forget to stop by the OC Booth.. Or better yet,
sign up for a volunteer slot!
What do we expect you to do with this? It’s
quite simple –

Attend 3 meetings

Ski/slide/glide 3 times

Perform some (very fun) volunteer activity
either at the meetings or at an event
(including on single or multi day trips)
- and ‘badda bing’ – you will now be a full fledged
member. It all depends upon your participation
and getting that card signed before the Membership Committee exchanges it for a more manageably sized wallet card.
On the heels of the Expo is the annual Applicant
Party.. Members come on out and do the meet/greet
of our new Applicants. Remember how you felt
when you were joining the club? A stranger remains
as such unless we make the effort to make friends
with him/her. Rich and committee are hard at work
to ensure that you have an enjoyable evening. Jill
Bryce, our PR chair, is hard at work lining up the
giveaways at this event. You won’t have a chance
at being a winner if you don’t attend!!
Who can sign your Applicant Card?

Meetings**: Visit the table to see the Applicant &/or Membership Chair.

Volunteer hours: Person in charge of the
event or the committee person for whom you
are working.

Ski Days: The Trip or Bus leader (Note: a
See you soon, at the PCC!!!

party bus is not considered a ski day!!! The
annual Battenkill trip or another overnight
such as the Dude Ranch trip is not considered
a ski trip).
In a pinch, an officer of the Club may sign the card if the
above is not available.
** It is the responsibility of the applicant to
know when meetings are being held. No cards will
be signed for attending a meeting when there is a
special event going on, i.e.: Applicant Party, Committee Fair special events. Check the LiftLine &/
or the Website (www.ocskiclub.org) for the club’s
calendar of events.
