Carlton In Snaith
School Newsletter
1st July 2016 - Issue 22/16
Welcome to another newsletter – I can’t believe it is already July. Where has this term (and
year) gone! I have really enjoyed the atmosphere in school this week. There has been a
really busy sense of focus and a lovely ‘working hum’ around school. We are approaching
the end of term with just less than four weeks to go
before the summer holiday, and yet
so much still do and enjoy in school.
This week I have particularly enjoyed spending time watching children in action in class,
notably, Year 5&6 in action with Mrs Whisker. The children were far better at some of the
teamwork and ‘ensemble’ activities than our teachers were in staff meeting! I was really
impressed by the feedback the children were providing to one another as they were
rehearsing for parts for the production.
I have also really enjoyed spending time with our Reception class where I learnt all about
‘Why the Crayons Quit’! The love of reading and writing in class, embedded by Mrs Smith
and Mrs Bramley is fantastic to see.
The hall has been in regular use this week, not only with the Year 6 pupils, as they
rehearse for our KS2 production, but also Mrs Taylor’s class too. Year 2/3 pupils have been
busy ‘being Romans’ ready for their Learning party on Friday (1st July).
NSPCC ‘Danceathon’
On Thursday afternoon KS 1 and KS 2 took part in a ‘danceathon’ in the hall. This was a
fun and active way of supporting a great Cause, The NSPCC. We have sent home optional
sponsorship packs this week for this purpose. This is our way as a school of helping
supporting one of the many respected and much needed charities. I witnessed some great
moves! (Mr Brooks and Mrs Mackintosh not included!)
NSPCC staff have been into school and spoken to the children in assembly. They will be
coming into school again next week. If you feel able to support us and the NSPCC in any
way we would be extremely grateful. All sponsorship monies collected are encouraged to be
returned to school by Tuesday 5th July if at all possible.
This week
It has been a busy week too, in terms of thinking about next year. We have held a
successful ‘new parents’ evening for families of next year’s Reception children who will be
joining our school next year. A warm welcome to all of our new families! The children
themselves will be spending time visiting school over the next few weeks.
You should have received my letter about class allocation and teaching arrangements for
September 2016. Please contact the school office if you did not receive this – it was sent
both by parent mail and hard copy. This structure has generally been received well
although I’m aware that for some this has been a difficult period. I am confident moving
forward that these plans will be successful for the year ahead.
As I outlined in my letter, it gives me great pleasure to welcome Miss Stafford to our school
team. I know she is excited to be joining us and I am sure she will be a real asset to our
team. Miss Stafford is currently working in County Durham and is relocating to our area
over the summer. She impressed me, Mrs Taylor and Governors with her teaching, passion,
enthusiasm, and CV. All of the children in school will get to meet Miss Stafford in assembly
and around school on our two planned ‘move up’ mornings (on Monday 4 th July and Friday
15th July 2016). A very warm Carlton welcome to the team Miss Stafford!
Other important info and dates:

Friday 8th July 9.00am - SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) coffee

this great whole-school & community event. More details to follow soon!

Whole School Pantomime Trip – I can’t believe in July I am talking about Christmas
but…..I am very excited (oh no I’m not!) to have provisionally booked a whole school
trip to York in December to see Aladdin. This will be a great experience for all of the
children to attend a live performance in a theatre, especially as part of the Christmas
festivities. You should have all received a letter and information about the trip, from
Mrs Violet and me, requesting contributions for this trip. We would greatly appreciate
your early commitment financially to enable this booking to be confirmed (oh yes we
will!). Thanks in advance!

Polite reminder – Parking in the school car park is strictly for Staff, Disabled badge
holders and transport for nurseries & playgroups only. Please help follow these rules
to enable appropriate access and all children are kept safe

I ask in advance for these performances that wherever possible people walk to school if they
live locally, or for those who need to come in the car that extra care, respect and
consideration is given to local residents by everyone parking sensibly.
Best wishes

Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic day at Drax Read on Monday this week. They took part in
drama, art, business and science lessons which they all thoroughly enjoyed. Their
behaviour was superb and I was proud to be their teacher. All the staff and pupils
from Read school were very complimentary about all our children. Well done year 5!

Our Music Night was held last Friday at the Holy Family High School. It was lovely to see so
many people supporting our school choir, rock choir and Gina Dootson.
A lot of hard work went in to ensuring our school choir were ready to perform. All the
children were brilliant and I’m sure you agree - worthy of the awards they have won this
year!
On behalf of everyone from the Friends of Carlton School I would like to say a huge Thank
You to each and every parent, grandparent, family member, friend and member of the
community who came and bought a ticket for this Friends event. I also want to mention all
of you who made/bought cakes for the night. We were overwhelmed with how many
beautiful cakes and buns that were kindly donated. We made a superb £670 profit. We will
be passing a donation to the Holy Family School’s chosen charity CAFOD. The remainder
will be put towards supporting music in our school and purchasing new seating outside the
school for children and parents.
Many thanks for your continued support.
Mrs Pemberton and The Friends of Carlton School.
