ANDYSE McClure didn’t mean for
it to happen, but she’s become a
staple of sci-fi and horror films and
television shows. Cases in point:
The Outer Limits (2001), Jer-emiah (2002), Carrie (2002), The Twilight Zone
(2003), Andromeda (2004), Smallville (2005),
Sanctuary (2007), Children of the Corn (2009),
Mother’s Day (2010), Alphas (2012) and, most
famously, Battlestar Galactica (2003-2009).
McClure co-starred on the acclaimed series
as Anastasia Dualla, winning the affections of
countless fans around the world for her por-trayal of the passionate, willful and ultimately
doomed character.
“I’m a big sci-fi nerd myself,’’ McClure
says, “and, for an actress, these roles are
so strong. The stories can be unusual and
controversial, and people really respond
to the stories and characters. Sci-fi
touches people’s lives. It makes them
think in new ways and opens up plat-forms for conversations that they may
not have had before. It helps them get
through difficult times or helps them
celebrate good times. I love it.’’
It should come as no surprise,
than, that McClure – a striking, 33year-old South African – is back in
familiar territory with the upcoming
Netflix series Hemlock Grove. The
show, produced by horror veteran
Eli Roth, will debut on April 19 and
unfolds in a Pennsylvania farm-ing town long past its glory days.
Heinous crimes are being commit-ted by what the townspeople in the
quiet community believe to be a
wild animal, and the search is on
to discover what this animal is and
who is responsible for the deaths of
several young women.
Enter McClure’s character, Dr Chausser.
“Chausser comes into town as the resident
animal expert,’’ McClure says, speaking by
telephone from her Los Angeles home. “She’s
a doctor of predator pathology and has been
brought in by local law enforcement, we be-lieve, to track and hunt this animal. But she
starts to ask too many questions and she gets
underneath people’s skin, and we learn that
Chausser is, like most people in town, not
what she seems.
“She’s obsessive,’’ the actress contin-ues. “She’s singularly focused. In this
case, I believe her drive is for the truth.
She feels as though she needs to atone
for something, and throwing herself into
her work is a way in which she can do
Kandyse McClure stars in Hemlock Grove.
that. Chausser doesn’t take the easy explanations
as answers. She also has a deep intuition and
believes that something else is going on, and she
can’t let it go.’’
Netflix spent a reported $45 million to
produce 13 first-season episodes of Hemlock
Grove, which will run an hour each, and assem-bled a film-worthy cast that also includes Famke
Janssen, Dougray Scott, Bill Skarsgard and Lili
Taylor. Quite understandably, McClure describes
the show as a cross between a film and a televi-sion series.
“In many ways it marched along like many of
the other series I’ve shot,’’ she says, “but it also
has a more cinematic feel. There were certain
television constraints that we didn’t have to
abide by. That doesn’t always mean just the level
of gore or sexuality, because you certainly see
those things on cable-television shows, but we
didn’t have to tie things up after every act, every
episode. We allowed for a lot more ambiguity, a
lot more loose ends.
“So that was like shooting a movie,’’ McClure
says, “because the answers, or the clues, didn’t
necessarily come at these specified points in the
story. We could use other devices to capture the
audience and push them a little further.’’
The wild card when it comes to Hemlock
Grove is that it will begin on April 19 – and
end then as well. As it did with House of Cards
earlier this year, Netflix will make all 13 episodes

didn’t go to school for it, so every mistake I’ve made has
been immortalised – and that’s sometimes painful, but
also a really great opportunity to grow.
“I think there’s a curious mixture of being really
proud of how far I’ve come and how long I’ve been able
to continue in this career, given the circumstances I
started with,’’ the actress says. “But also, as Martha Gra-ham said, there is no satisfaction at any time, anywhere,
there’s only a curious dissatisfaction. I think that’s what
continues to drive me as an artist, to keep seeking new
ways of expressing myself and new interior places to
draw from.’’
It remains to be seen whether Hemlock Grove will
earn a second season, but either way McClure is looking
forward.
“It’s pilot season now in Los Angeles,’’ she says, “and
I’m looking forward to the next projects. I really believe
that the work I’m supposed to do is the work that I’ll be
challenged to do. I certainly felt that way with Hemlock.
I had such a strong feeling about it, walking into the
audition, and I’m just waiting for that feeling to come
back ... hopefully on Hemlock.’’

available to viewers on the same day.
“I can only speak for myself,’’ McClure says, “but I
think, for a lot of people around me, in my age group, in
my peer group and certainly in my industry and similar
industries, this idea of being home on a Thursday at 8
o’clock to catch your favourite show ... I don’t know if
it’s still possible anymore. Of course you have things like
DVR, but I know how I consume my content, and that
is through formats like Netflix. I had Netflix before I did
Hemlock Grove.
“I like the idea that you can kind of binge-consume
the story line,’’ she says. “You want to know more, and
you can. We live in the age of that kind of gratification,
and our programme is just following suit. I’m really
excited about it, and I do believe that it’s the wave of the
future.’’
Though McClure may be best known for her sci-fi
and horror output, she’s worked steadily for the past
15 years, often in less-creepy contexts. She was a regu-lar on the series Higher Ground’ (2000), and also has
appeared in such shows and films as Da Vinci’s Inquest
(2000-2005), The Client List (2010) and Broken King--

dom (2012).
“Acting is a funny thing,’’ she says, “because, as I’ve
matured through my career, I’ve come to not put so
much of my self-worth and emotional life into whether
or not I’ve booked jobs. You learn to do the work and let
it go. Particularly for me, I learned my craft on camera. I

U
S president Barack Obama’s spokesman on
Thursday denied any White House role in
allowing a visit to Cuba by rapper Jay-Z
and pop star Beyonce last week, after the
hip hop mogul released a song that sug-gested he had presidential permission for the trip.
“I guess nothing rhymes with Treasury (Depart-ment),” Jay Carney said to laughter among reporters.
“I am absolutely saying the White House, from the
president on down, had nothing to do with anybody’s
personal - anybody’s travel to Cuba,” Carney added. “That
is something that Treasury (Department) handles.”
Jay-Z hit back at critics of his trip in a rap entitled Open
Letter, released on the Internet on Thursday, saying he was a
“boy from the ‘hood but I got White House clearance.”
Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and wife Beyonce
- both notable Obama supporters - last week visited the Com-munist-run island nation where they celebrated their fifth wed-ding anniversary.
In the song, Jay-Z, 43, likens himself to US folk singer Bob Dylan
and challenges critics to fine him or put him in jail.
“Wanna give me jail time and a fine, fine, let me commit a real
crime,” Jay-Z rapped.
The rapper also cited his close relationship with the president
in the song, rapping “Obama said chill, you all going to get me im-peached ... chill with me on the beach.”
The visit by Jay-Z and Beyonce, which was approved by the
Treasury Department as an educational trip, caused a stir in part
because of the couple’s celebrity and the longstanding US trade
embargo against Cuba that prohibits tourism by US citizens.
The couple’s trip was criticised by three Cuban-American
members of Congress, all Republicans who support a hard stance
on Cuba.
US Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart
said the trip was being used by the Cuban government for propagan-da and assailed Jay-Z and Beyonce for exploiting Treasury Depart-ment regulations to vacation in Cuba.
Senator Marco Rubio also said that the visit highlighted the way
travel programmes to Cuba “have been abused by tourists.”
In a reference to the muddled politics of the Cuban embargo,
Jay-Z rapped, “I’m in Cuba. I love Cubans. This Communist talk is so
confusing. When it’s from China, the very mic that I’m using.”

actor was so worried about the armed
forces’ reaction on the dramatic scenes
that he went to visit them personally to

and they loved it,” he added.

Nautanki Saala! not an
overwhelming comic outing
IANS
Here as the spaced-out suicidal stranger,
who blows into Ayushmann’s theatrical
existence, Kunal confers a sense of
hectic audacity to his intruder’s
part.
Ayushmann bequeaths a
clenched vitality to his
character. Here’s an
actor who knows how
to milk a situation
or a line and exactly
where to stop before it goes
over the top. As the reluctant exceedingly
altruistic host to a suicidal guest, Ayush-mann goes beyond his Vicky Donor debut
to show some hefty mettle.
Unfortunately, the writing just doesn’t
give Ayushmann, Kunal or the three
pretty female actors a chance to breathe
easy and let their characters acquire their
own volition. Not that the screenplay
is in a hurry to get anywhere. Rather, it
takes its time to get somewhere that we
don’t really reach in spite of the film
team’s best intentions.
It remains a mystery why Sippy
— whose earlier films, for
whatever they were worth,
were originals — would now
want to remake a mediocre
French film. This is not as
inexplicable as a remake
of Himmatwala. But then
again it does make you ques-tion the scarcity of original
screenplay writers in our
cinema.
On the plus side, the
original French film’s res-taurateur’s realm is relocated
I
F it is any consolation,
Rohan Sippy’s lat-est presentation is
far more cohesively
constructed and sure
of its raison d’etre than his
last film Dum Maro Dum, which
bumped off its protagonist half-anhour before The End.
Thankfully, no one dies during Nau-tanki Saala! — not even the audience
laughing. This one is just not funny
enough to qualify as a LOL (Laugh Out
Loud) spree. At the same time, the bumchum camaraderie between Ayushmann
Khurrana and Kunal Roy Kapoor is so
pronouncedly pungent that we cannot
but chuckle at the gambolling antics that
take this desi French Friday special to the
level of bearable humour.
Oh, didn’t I tell you? Nautanki Saala!
is a remake of a 10-year-old French film
Apres Vous, which I had the good fortune
of seeing.
While the French film, directed
by Pierre Salvadori, is far more
nimble-footed in the telling of a
quirky One Fine Evening... plot,
the “official” remake (unofficial
ones went out of vogue with strin-gent copyright laws) scores for the
sheer joie de vivre (don’t miss my
French appreciation!) that Ayush-mann brings to the table.
Kunal — as all of us who have
seen that homage to horniness
called Delhi Belly know — is an
actor with notable comic acumen.
It remains a mystery why Sippy
— whose earlier films, for what-ever they were worth, were
originals — would now want to

Being vegetarian helps in martial arts: Vidyut Jamwal

A
CTOR Vidyut Jamwal, who has
been seen flaunting his wellsculpted body on the big screen,
turned vegetarian more than a decade
ago and enjoys the perks of healthy eat-ing habits. He says he is “more agile and
faster”.
“After I switched to being a vegetari-an, every thing in my life changed. Every
good thing is happening,” the 35-yearold said on Thursday at the launch of a
new PETA ad.
“I really mean it because I saw
transformations in my body, my mind.
I could feel the connectivity between
my brain and my body. That’s the only
reason that was very selfish. After that I
started evolving with my physical ability.
I realised that I am more agile, faster,”
he added.
When it comes to martial arts, the
Force fame actor describes himself as
a “selfish” person and added: “I am a
selfish man with martial arts, so it’s been
helping me a lot. My body started look-ing better. It was not beefy, it was well
sculpted. I could lose and gain weight
whenever I wanted.”
Vidyut, a national-level gymnast and
an expert in Kalaripayattu -- a form of
martial arts from Kerala, will be seen
flexing his muscles and flaunting his
martial art expertise in Commando,
which was released on Friday.
Recalling the time when Vidyut was a
non-vegetarian, he said: “After I turned
vegetarian, I realised what I have been
losing when I was a non-vegetarian. It’s
been about 14 or 15 years that I have
stopped eating non-vegetarian food. I
was eating mutton, chicken ... every day
of my life, every meal of my life.”
Meanwhile, Vidyut is happy with the
response to his performance in actionpacked Commando.
His next will be Tigmanshu Dhuliadirected Bullet Raja, in which he will
share the screen space with Saif Ali

NOW PLAYING IN DOHA THEATRES
into the bustling theatre world. And that
is a cue for some eye-catching visuals and
in-house humour.
Sippy’s eye for theatrical detail can’t
match what R Balki did to the restaurant
business in Cheeni Kum. But then, who’s
comparing?
The cinematography is a refreshing
synthesis of gritty realism and flights of
colourful fantasy, quite like two worlds
off and on stage that Ayushmann’s char-acter grapples to come to terms with.
All said and dumb, the comic tim-ing of the two lead actors does keep
the narrative on track most of the way.
Ayushmann and Kunal dig happily into
their derivative roles of the saviour and
the loser from the French film. The duo
whips up a wicked humour in this com-edy of errors filled with a reined-in bliz-zard of boyish bacchanalia and banter.
While you are mildly amused by
their antics, you don’t come away over-whelmed by this comic outing on the
downside of spontaneous hospitality.
Oh, Sippy had desecrated the RD Bur-man classic Dum Maro Dum in his last
film. Here he goes at the Anand-Milind
track Dhak dhak karne laga.
Frankly, it doesn’t make a difference.

The 23-year-old, who made her debut oppo-site Rajniesh Duggall in horror thriller 1920, will
be seen romancing Dev Goel in the forthcoming
comedy, set to hit the screens on May 24.
“We both are very lucky to work with

For a southern novelist,
nesting is better back home
NYT SYNDICATE
E
VEN when she was living near
Boston, teaching at Harvard
and Brandeis, married to a
Northerner and raising two
small Yankees, Jill McCorkle
never left the South – in her mind, at
least. Her associations and conversa-tions, like so many of her stories and her
new novel, Life After Life (Algonquin),
drew on memories of small-town North
Carolina, particularly her childhood in
the downstate community of Lumberton,
in the 60s and 70s.
Seven years ago, McCorkle returned
in the physical sense.
Following a divorce, the writer moved
back to her home state and took a teach-ing job at North Carolina State Universi-ty, in Raleigh. Not long after, she remar--
ried (this time to a native Kentuckian)
and moved from her house in Chapel
Hill to her husband’s nearby 61-acre
farm, along the Eno River here.
Pulling into the dirt driveway on a
recent morning, a visitor wandered past
an old Dodge truck mouldering in the
sun, and around garages and outbuild-ings and house additions, while three
dogs excitedly ran in circles. McCorkle,
54, was eventually found in a large, highceilinged kitchen, filling milk bottles.
“We have two goats whose mothers
refuse to feed them,” she said. “One is
the runt of triplets, but the other, I’m not
sure what’s going on. If the mom were a
human, you’d call DSS. So we’re bottle
feeding.”
McCorkle and her husband, Tom
Rankin, the director of the Centre for
Documentary Studies at Duke, raise and
sell goats, and a new litter had just been
born. When you count the chickens in
the backyard coop (“I’ll send you home
with some eggs”) and the four dogs the
couple had between them (“We did the
‘Brady Bunch’ dog thing”), it’s an ex-panding menagerie.
“Listen, we were given a donkey for a
wedding present,” McCorkle said. “I have
always loved animals, so it works.”
Once she found a place for her ex-tensive book collection, in custom-built
shelves lining a long hallway, she settled
easily into the circa 1830 farmhouse, she
said, and into country life. As a child, she
spent weekends at her grandmother’s
house in Lumberton, a similar life of
solitude and connection with nature’s
rhythms.
“You got up when the sun came
up and went to bed soon after it went
down,” she said. “She loved to garden. It
was a very quiet world with her.”
McCorkle’s return to the South cor-responded with a quieter period in her
own life. With her son and daughter
grown and out of the house, she was able
to devote the time needed to complete
Life After Life, a book she had been writ-ing on and off for 20 years. A composite
novel with many characters and parts,
it centres on the residents of a North
Carolina retirement community called
Pine Haven and is a meditation on aging
and death.
The novel was largely inspired by the
death of McCorkle’s father from lung
cancer, in 1992.
“I was very aware of trying to imagine
what it felt like on those conscious days
for him, to be where he was, while all of
this life continues around you,” she said.
LIFESTYLE
McCorkle writes in
the main house, in
a small upstairs
bedroom with
beautiful wide
floorboards, furnished
with a desk and her
grandparents’ bed.
“I like it because it
is one of the places
where you can really
feel the years”
Throughout his life, McCorkle’s
father suffered from clinical depression,
she said, but he faced the end in ways
that surprised and moved her.
“He was very strong and fearless,”
she recalled. “He apologised for things
he had not been able to do in life. He had
the strength at the end to say everything
you would want to hear someone you
love say. He just looked it right in the
eye.”
In books like Carolina Moon and
Final Vinyl Days, McCorkle earned a
reputation for humour and a nostalgic
take on the new South. In Life After
Life, the mask of humour is less present,
in favour of what the author called “the
darker story underneath.”
Still, the elderly residents of Pine
Haven live and yearn and challenge one
another with an exuberance that jumps
off the page, something McCorkle said
she intended: “We think people get to
Sunday, April 14, 2013
Jill McCorkle
the end and stop living, stop thinking,
stop doing. And yet they’re all experi-encing life in the same ways they would
have 40 years ago.”
McCorkle is presumably years away
from such decisions, but she was asked
whether she would want to spend her
twilight years in a place like Pine Haven.
“I have a writer friend who once
pitched the idea that he and I buy up
some of those old motels and have a
home for old writers,” she said.
She laughed at the notion. “You
could have favourite students who are
interested in what you have to say come
and tend to you.”
Seventeen years and many life
changes have come and gone since
Carolina Moon, her last novel, was
published.
“Different marriage, different job,
different house,” she said, laughing.
She first glimpsed her current home
and husband eight years ago, when
she and Rankin – who seemingly have
a hundred friends in common, all of
whom wanted to set them up – went
fishing in a canoe on a pond on his
property.
“He has told people that the fact that
I baited my own hook won me points,”
McCorkle said.
For his part, Rankin said: “I’ve
always been a little cynical about those
arranged relationships. We were both
divorced. I decided to invite her over to
fish. It seemed like a good idea.”
Rankin, who is now 55, bought the
Federal-style farmhouse when he came
to Duke 15 years ago, and spent his first
several years there repairing the home
and outbuildings.
“It’s been a big project,” he said, but
“the handwork that goes on there is a
nice balance to the meetings that go on
at the university.”
In addition to his own refurbishing
work, Rankin hired a local architect to
build a second wing to complement an
addition from around 1980. Viewed
from the back courtyard, the house
looks like a brick belt with two white
vinyl-sided legs extending from it. In
one is the airy kitchen and a screened-in
porch; the other contains bedrooms and
the long hallway with bookshelves.
The unusual footprint can baffle
visitors, McCorkle said: “Once, when my
mother was visiting, I heard her on the
phone with somebody saying, ‘Jill and
Tom live in a house that comes in three
parts. If you get lost, you go outside and
figure out where you are.”’
McCorkle writes in the main house,
in a small upstairs bedroom with beauti-ful wide floorboards, furnished with a
desk and her grandparents’ bed. “I like
it because it is one of the places where
you can really feel the years,” she said.
In the room are several dollhouses,
including a two-story Victorian that
McCorkle built from a kit. “Building a
dollhouse is a lot like writing a novel,”
she said, “because you are God of the
universe.”
A self-described “nester,” she has also
arrayed shells and knickknacks on the
floor and mantel of an adjoining room.
When she is a visiting teacher at colleges,
she said, she likes to bring along some of
her lamps and decorations.
“I do like cozy, small spaces, and so
I’m very comfortable here now,” she
said.
Downstairs, in the kitchen, McCorkle
talked about her 27-city book tour and
the pleasure of publishing a novel so
long in development.
When she lived in New England, she
said, she put novel writing aside to focus
on teaching and raising her children.
“I felt like the work would still be
there, but the big ballet recital or Lit-tle League game wouldn’t be,” she said.
“It was really important to me to be
present, with the idea that I would get
my turn.”
Now that she is back home in North
Carolina, and living in the quiet of the
country, she was asked, has her turn
finally come?
She smiled and said, “I like to think
I’m on the threshold.”

Vishu: The New Year
festival of Kerala
TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK
The Kerala commu-nity in Qatar will
observe Vishu, the
festival of harvest,
today. A number of
colourful programmes
and cultural activities
have been lined up by
the community
members from
South Indian state
to celebrate the
festival in Qatar
T
ODAY is Vishu; a fes-tival that is cherished
by every Malayali, no
matter where he or
she lives. One of the impor-tant festivals of the people of the south
Indian state of Kerala. Vishu is the
beginning of the astronomical new year
as the sun crosses the equator. Keralites
believe that viewing an auspicious ob-ject on rising will ensure prosperity for
the coming year. It marks the beginning
of Malayali New Year and is observed on
the 1st day of the Malayalam month of
Medam, usually it comes on April 14th
or 15th every year. It is also an occasion
to pay homage to Lord Krishna for all
the blessings!
The Kerala community in Qatar
will observe Vishu, the festival of
harvest, today. A number of colour-ful programmes and cultural activities
have been lined up by the community
members from South Indian state to cel-ebrate the festival in Qatar. The festival
also marks the beginning of the Malayali
New Year.
On this day, every Malayali wakes
up to see the ‘Vishukani’. Vishukani is
a traditional ritual of arranging several
auspicious things to be seen on the
Vishu day in the early morning. A spe-cial arrangement of raw rice, new linen,
fruits, vegetables, betel leaves, metal, a
mirror and yellow flowers is prepared
for the purpose. A traditional lamp
called nilavilakku is lit near it.
Elders gave cash gifts to their rela-tives while a sumptuous feast with a
variety of dishes made of seasonal
vegetables and fruits is also part of the
celebrations.
People wear new clothes on the occa-sion and elders of the family distribute
tokens of money, called Vishukkaineet-am, to children and others. Like many
Indian festivals, Vishu is also associated
with the harvest season.
Many Indian restaurants across
Qatar have made special arrangements
for Keralites looking for a traditional
lunch.
The Vishu Sadhya,
which is regarded as
a vegetarian’s delight
comprises of at least
20 vegetarian dishes
and sweet porridges
called payasam.
About the festival
MOSTLY a south Indian festival, Vishu
is the dawn of the new astronomical
year, and the day marks the first day of
the Malayali month of Medam, which
corresponds with April in the Gregorian
calendar. This year, however, Vishu falls
on Medam 2. The festival, which her-alds the arrival of spring, is celebrated
in the belief that if the year starts on a
good note, good fortune will continue
throughout the year.

You feel fantastic and happy today!
Use these good vibes to spread
joy with everyone you meet. This
is a particularly good day for
writers and people who sell or
promote for a living. Live it up!
You might have fabulous
moneymaking ideas today;
however, you also might spend
really big. (It could go either way.)
One thing is certain: You feel
rich and generous.
You feel healthy and happy today,
but you are also very concerned
for the welfare of others. If you
can do anything to help those
who are less fortunate, you will.
You have a warm feeling in your
tummy today, because life is
good. Of course, there’s always
something wrong, because that’s
reality. But today, you feel content.
All group activities will be upbeat
today, particularly with female
friends. You feel happy because
your future goals look like they are
double, and this is encouraging!
You can make a great impression
on bosses, parents, teachers and
VIPs today. Someone might learn
something about your personal life
that paints you in a very good light.

Travel plans look exciting! You’re
very keen to expand your world
today. Others, however, will explore
opportunities in publishing, the
media, medicine and the law.
Gifts, favors from others and
little treasures can come your
way today. Don’t hesitate to
accept them. Just say, “Thank
you.” (You deserve this.)
Relations with partners and
close friends are particularly
warm and mutually generous
today. You also might enjoy
the company of someone from
another culture or country.
Work-related travel is likely
today. Others will get a raise
or praise, because this is a
positive day with respect to
your job. Glory hallelujah!
Enjoy fun-filled activities today.
Watch or participate in sports.
Grab a movie or go to the theater.
Enjoy playful times with children.
New romance with someone older
and richer also might blossom.
This is an excellent day for
real-estate opportunities. It’s
also a lovely time to entertain
at home because you feel
generous and everyone is in a
good mood. Share the wealth!

Oblivion
TOM Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the visionary director of Tron: Legacy and producers of Rise
of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead
him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind. 2077: Jack Harper (Cruise) serves as a security repairman sta-tioned on an evacuated Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying alien threat who still
scavenges what’s left of our planet, Jack’s mission is almost complete. In a matter of two weeks, he will join the remaining survivors on a lunar
colony far from the war-torn world he has long called home. Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above,
Jack’s soaring existence is brought crashing down after he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Drawn to Jack through a
connection that transcends logic, her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he thought he knew. With a real-ity that is shattered as he discovers shocking truths that connect him to earth of the past, Jack will be pushed to a heroism he didn’t know he
contained within. The fate of humanity now rests solely in the hands of a man who believed our world was soon to be lost forever.
