WELCOME TO STOKE MANDEVILLE General Information and Program 15th July 2014 To all the Teams, We are quickly approaching the IWAS World Junior Games 2014 in Stoke Mandeville and we are looking forward to welcoming you all to the Birthplace of the Paralympics and IWAS HQ. The final numbers are in and we are so pleased to announce that we have 350 athletes from 33 different countries competing in Archery, Athletics, Powerlifting, RaceRunning, Swimming, Table Tennis and Wheelchair Fencing. TRAVEL INFORMATION Air The official airport for the Games is London Heathrow. Our transport company Bettabus will have the flight details that you have sent us including your luggage requirements to ensure they have enough vehicles ready to collect you. Once you have collected your baggage then please walk towards the meeting point within your terminals which are listed below. At this meeting point a member of the IWAS/Bettabus volunteer team will be there to direct you to your transport. For your day of arrival (only) and if you are unable to find a team member then please contact the IWAS/Bettabus Airport Traffic Controller on mobile number 0044 7726 319 297. Heathrow Meeting Points (all sign posted within airport) Terminal 1: In the international arrivals area (ground floor), next to the Costa coffee bar. Terminal 2: Opposite the exit to international arrivals. Terminal 3: In the seated area in the arrivals hall (ground floor of the arrivals building). Terminal 4: Next to WHSmith in arrivals (ground floor). Terminal 5: North meeting point on the ground floor, marked by banners, near green staircase, opposite Travelex. Local Shuttle Transport This will be arranged throughout the games to transport teams between the hotels and sport venues. The last shuttle transport will be following the closing ceremony on the evening of Thursday 7th August. A schedule will be provided to you on arrival at your accommodation. ACCOMMODATION Please find attached lists of the hotels allocated to each team. We have had the usual difficulties with the number of wheelchair accessible rooms in hotels. Therefore we have allocate at least one wheelchair accessible room (dependent on team size and number of wheelchair users) to each team to ensure that everyone has the use of an accessible bathroom. If you find the team is particularly struggling with the rooms allocated to them, the accessible room can be left empty to allow for communal use of the bathroom and we will try to find an alternative room at our cost although we cannot guarantee this. All hotels are within 22 miles (35km) of the sport venues and shuttle buses will be in operation to transport delegations to and from the sports venues from their hotels. The fee for the use of these buses was included in your registration fees. Details of each hotel can be found on the Games official website. FOOD & DRINK Breakfast: Will be served at your hotel. For teams staying at Stoke Mandeville Stadium then breakfast will be provided in split servings at 06:30, 07:30 and 08:30. A schedule for each team and each day will be provided on arrival. Lunch: Lunch packs will be available for collection from 10:30 in the Bowls Bar at Stoke Mandeville Stadium. During competition dates at other sport venues the lunch packs will be taken to the venue if teams request this in advance. ONLY Team Managers or a nominated person by the Team Manager will be allowed to collect and sign for lunch packs. Dinner: All team dinners will be served at Stoke Mandeville Stadium. These will be done in split servings according to teams and sport schedule at 18:00, 19:00 and 20:00. A schedule will be provided on arrival. The last meal included in your registration package is breakfast on Friday 8th August. Should your stay extend past this date then your accommodation package will provide breakfast at your hotel. For arrangements for lunch and dinner after this date then please contact IWAS HQ to discuss arrangements.
