WINTON SKATEPARK - ITS ALL GO.
Southern REAP often supports
initiatives which come from a strong
community need. Two that spring
to mind are the Winton Community
Worker position and currently
the Winton Skate Park Project.
Both of these are very worthwhile
and satisfying projects which
enhances the community in very
different ways.
A ‘community needs analysis
survey’ undertaken by the Winton
Community
Worker in 2009
identified a Skate Park as a high
priority.
It has taken years of coordination and
hours of fundraising but the Winton
Skate Park is finally coming to fruition.
The Winton Community Board/
Southland District Council has
donated the land for the facility
beside the John Street playground,
official resource consent has been
approved by Southland District
Council and the Skate Park builder
engaged for a construction start date
of February 2017.
The consultation indicated that
there were no facilities of this
nature in the Central Southland
area, therefore this project would
fill a gap in this region in terms of
facilities and will meet the needs of
not only youth but entire families.
Southern REAP became involved in
2012.
The project focuses on the
development of a multi-user
multi-purpose skate park that
encompasses the vision of the
Winton Skate Park Trust, the
Steering Committee, and key
Stakeholders, Winton Community
Board, Southland District Council
and the Youth of Central Southland
and surrounding areas.
The images featured are proposed visuals
of the Winton Skate Park.
We look forward to the construction
phase and perhaps a little less
fundraising!
Onwards and Upwards..

ALTERNATIVE
EDUCATION GORE
Year 11 students, Jayden and Jesse both
attained the Numeracy and Literacy
Packages worth 10 credits each through
Te Kura.
They worked extremely hard and are very
proud of their achievements.
They both have less than 20 credits to
achieve by the end of the year to attain
NCEA Level One.
We have been focusing on getting fit for
the Routeburn Track, as the students will
attempt to conquer this in Term Four.
Both centres meet regularly to join forces
to exercise and enjoy the Southland
sunshine.
A variety of tracks have been tackled such
as Edenview, Dolomore Park and the Bluff
Hill. Gore Alternative Education have
been under the guidance of ‘Geocaching
- the world’s largest treasure hunt”. It is
a fun way to also get some fitness done,
the kids enjoy the challenge of finding the
spot.

PLUNKET PURELY PHYSICAL
Purely
PHYSICAL
Plunket Purely Physical is
a
preschool
movement
programme through Central
Southland Plunket. Supported
initially by Southern REAPs
experienced E.C teachers with
equipment borrowed from our
wonderful Toy library.
Now they have purchased
some cool equipment of their
own and are busily running
two sessions each Monday
during school terms.
Active movement and play
are wonderful opportunities
to move and enhance
physical ability, but equally as
important is the opportunity
to demonstrate and inspire
confidence.

their health and wellbeing, vision
and hearing checks, oral health
and gives you an opportunity to
ask questions of a qualified health
professional in a supportive and
non-judgemental atmosphere.
If you had a neat experience
somewhere and would like
to share a wee story and or
photos, please forward them
to us [email protected] or
