If anyone needed positive proof of the vibrancy and diversity of the contemporary
Latin music scene, the SESAC Latina Awards, held June 20th at LA's historic Beverly Hills
Hotel, was absolutely the place to be. From the impressive and wide-ranging list of award
winners to the evening's riveting live performances (from Mexican pop sensation Reik
and regional Mexican stars Calibre 50), the power and passion of Latin music, and the
people who create it, were on brilliant display.
SESAC Latina continues to broaden and deepen its roster of affiliated composers.
Recent signings include Puerto Rican singer/songwriter/producer Draco Rosa; Spanish
rock legend Enrique Bunbury (SGAE); Luciano Luna, prominent singer-songwriter and
producer of chart topper hits recorded by Banda El Recodo, 3BallMTY, Calibre 50, Rieleros
del Norte and Chuy Lizárraga, among others; and Rafael Becerra, renowned frontman
and songwriter for Mexico's Banda Carnaval.
SESAC Latina Vice President, J.J. Cheng shared hosting duties with New York-based
Trevor Gale, SESAC's Senior VP, Writer/Publisher Relations. Looking back on a "fantastic"
year for SESAC Latina's composers and publishers, SESAC welcomed attendees from
Mexico, Texas, New York, Puerto Rico, Miami, Panama,
Spain and Ecuador to the festivities.
In order to better serve all of its songwriters, composers and music publishers, SESAC
will soon be launching a ground-breaking development in royalty distribution. In the
months to come, SESAC will be sending out monthly royalty distribution payments for
radio performances. Compensating songwriters and
publishers in the most accurate and timely manner possible is SESAC’s goal and we are proud to lead the
performing rights industry with this new distribution model.

While we love to celebrate and reflect upon our
successes, the SESAC Latina story goes deeper than these
well-deserved honors. The SESAC Latina Writer/Publisher
staff has done a great job building the Latina roster by
drawing from all corners of Latin music and attracting the
very best of pop, rock, tropical, rhythmic, regional Mexican
and urban into the SESAC Latina fold. The results are

Entre los grandes ganadores estuvieron como Compositor del Año el artista

Nos encanta celebrar nuestros logros y reflexionar en relación a ellos. Pero la historia de SESAC Latina va más allá de estos merecidos honores. El equipo de Relación con
Compositores y Editoras de SESAC Latina ha hecho un gran trabajo en la construcción
de un elenco que abarca todos los ángulos de la música en español atrayendo hacia
el interior de SESAC Latina lo mejor de pop, rock, tropical, rítmica, regional mexicana y
urbana. Los resultados son impresionantes. Recientemente los compositores de SESAC
Latina ocuparon simultáneamente cinco lugares en el Top 10 de los charts de Billboard.
SESAC Latina continúa expandiendo y profundizando su elenco de compositores

distribución de regalías. En los próximos meses, SESAC va a enviar pagos mensuales de
distribución de regalías por las tocadas radiales. La meta de SESAC es que nuestros
compositores y editoras sean compensados en la forma más precisa y oportuna posible.
Al implantar este nuevo modelo de distribución de regalías nos sentimos orgullosos de
ser los líderes en la industria de derechos de autor por ejecución pública.
Extiendo mis sinceras felicitaciones a los ganadores de los premios SESAC Latina, a

prueba de la vitalidad y diversidad de la música latina
contemporánea, los premios SESAC Latina, otorgados en
el histórico Hotel Beverly Hills de Los Ángeles el pasado 20
de junio, era el lugar para estar. En la impresionante lista
de los ganadores y las estupendas presentaciones en
vivo de la noche (a partir de la sensacion del trío
Mexicano Pop Reik y el estelar grupo regional mexicano Calibre 50), el poder y la pasión
de la música latina, y quienes la crean, coincidieron en un brillante despliegue.

Nacido en Long Island y criado en Puerto Rico, a muy temprana edad
Draco adquirió una fuerza considerable al ingresar como miembro de la
popular banda Menudo, de la cual se separó en 1987, trasladándose en
seguida a Río de Janeiro donde perfeccionó sus naturales aptitudes como
escritor y músico.
En el 96, Rosa lanzó Vagabundo, el cual fue grabado en Inglaterra y
producido por Phil Manzanera, el guitarrista del legendario grupo Roxy Music.
Demostrando una maestría en el arte de la composición, Vagabundo
estableció a Rosa como un compositor con un talento inigualable. La revista
Entertainment Weekly lo colocó en su lista “IT LIST de los 100 personajes más
creativos de la industria de la música”. Y la revista Spin lo situó en 1997 en su
lista “Top 10 de los discos de rock en español más grandes de todos los
tiempos".
En 1999 Draco se asoció con su amigo y colaborador Ricky Martin con el
objeto de que éste emprendiera su carrera en inglés. Draco co-escribió y coprodujo para Martin su arrasador sencillo "Livin' La Vida Loca", que posicionó el
álbum en el #1 en las listas de Billboard, vendiendo la sorprendente cifra de 20
millones de copias en todo el mundo. Draco también trabajó en el álbum de
Martin “Sound Loaded” (año 2000), produciendo cuatro canciones, entre ellas
la exitosa "She Bangs".
En octubre del 2008 Draco lanza el álbum “Vino”, el cual considera una
continuación de Vagabundo. “Vino” está incluido en el tan anticipado
paquete de colección Draco: Limited Collector’s Edition, junto con el DVD de
“Teatro Live”, que, a su vez, obtuvo dos nominaciones al Latin Grammy® y ganó
el codiciado premio en la categoría “Mejor Álbum de Rock Vocal”.
Draco regresó a sus raíces en el 2009 con el lanzamiento de “Amor Vincit
Omnia” (El amor lo conquista todo), una colección de canciones con una
fuerte influencia de la música folklórica puertorriqueña, aclamado álbum que
recibió una nominación al Grammy® en el 2010 como “Mejor Álbum Latino de
Rock Alternativo”.
Draco sigue trabajando en una plétora de exitosos y aclamados proyectos,
entre ellos un álbum de duetos a lanzarse al mercado en el 2012, en que lo
acompañan Calle 13, Tego Calderón, Juan Luis Guerra, Ricky Martin, Juanes,
Alejandro Sanz, Rubén Blades, Maná, José Feliciano, Enrique Bunbury, Andrés
Calamaro, Marc Anthony, Ednita Nazario, Shakira, Romeo y Mima.
Recientemente, junto a Juan Luis Guerra y Rubén Blades, ofreció una serie
de dos conciertos “sold out” en el Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot de San Juan,
Puerto Rico.
Born on Long Island and raised in Puerto Rico, Draco experienced fame and adulation at
a young age as part of the classic lineup of Menudo. Upon leaving the group in 1987, he moved
to Rio de Janeiro where he worked hard to hone his talents as a writer and a musician.
In '96, Rosa released Vagabundo, which was recorded in England with legendary Roxy
Music guitarist Phil Manzanera producing. Vagabundo established Rosa as a unique composing
talent. Entertainment Weekly named him to their “IT LIST of the l00 most creative people in the
entertainment industry.” And Spin Magazine placed him “In its 1997 Top 10 list of the greatest rock
en español records of all time.
Draco came full circle in 1999, teaming up with his former Menudo bandmate Ricky Martin
to help him launch his crossover career into English-language stardom. Draco co-wrote and coproduced Martin’s legendary hit Livin’ La Vida Loca which propelled Martin’s album to No. 1 in
Billboard and sales of over 20 million units worldwide. Draco also worked on Martin’s followup CD
Sound Loaded (2000), producing four songs, including the smash single "She Bangs."
In October 2008 Draco releases the album “Vino” and considers this album a follow up to Vagabundo.
“Vino” is included in his long awaited production Draco: Limited Collector’s Edition, along with “Teatro Live”
DVD.“Teatro Live” garnered 2 Latin Grammy® nominations and 1 Latin Grammy® win for “Best Rock Vocal
Performance”. Draco went back to his roots in 2009 with the release of “Amor Vincit Omnia” (Love Conquers
All). A collection of songs with a heavy influence of Puerto Rican folk music. The critically acclaimed album
received a 2010 Grammy® nomination for “Best Latin Rock Alternative Album.”
Draco continued his career as a major creative force in Latin music, and recorded an acclaimed album

autor de la multi-premiada “Dime Que Me Quieres”, la canción de mayor
éxito en la trayectoria de 74 años de la legendaria Banda El Recodo, que
estuvo durante 17 semanas en el #1 de los charts. Además, es uno de los
compositores y co-productor de “Inténtalo”, el mega éxito y primer sencillo de 3BallMTY, otro #1 en las listas de Billboard, con el cual se ha
desarrollado en tiempo récord el actual fenómeno de la música “tribal”.
La emoción inicial se convertiría en palpable satisfacción y orgullo, ya
que "Tus Palabras" fue el sencillo más importante del álbum de La Madre
de Todas las Bandas ese año, al posicionarse durante 26 semanas en los

“A partir de que escuché esa canción grabada, me motivé y empecé
a trabajar diariamente en la composición. Escribo todos los días, aunque a
veces me tomo una pausa de unas dos semanas. Pero al volver
compongo unos 18 o 20 temas en un mes”, explica Luciano.
Born in Guamúchil, Sinaloa, Luciano Luna is the writer and producer of
hits performed by 3BallMTY, Banda El Recodo, El Bebeto, Calibre 50, Rieleros
del Norte and Chuy Lizárraga, among others. He’s amassed over 200
professional recordings, including many chart toppers, in just six years.

Together with Miguel Ángel Romero, another SESAC Latina-affiliated
artist, Luna is co-writer of the multiple award-winning “Dime Que Me
Quieres,” the biggest hit in the 74-year history of Banda El Recodo. This song
spent 17 weeks at # 1 on the U.S. Regional Mexican airplay charts.
Furthermore, Luna is a co-writer and co-producer of “Inténtalo,” the
Billboard chart-topping debut single by 3BallMTY.This influential song helped
the underground “tribal” genre go from viral phenomenon to mainstream
trend in record time.
The initial excitement turned into palpable satisfaction and pride for
Luna, as “Tus Palabras” became the most important single of the legendary
group’s 2006 album and spent 26 weeks on U.S. airplay charts while going
all the way to #1 in Mexico.
“After I heard the final version of that song, I felt motivated and I began
to work on songwriting daily. I still do, though at times I’ll take a two-week
breather. But when I return, I’ll write 18 to 20 songs in a month,” says Luciano.

Siempre reinventándose a sí mismo, con “Licenciado Cantinas”, su
actual álbum, Enrique Bunbury (SGAE) ha totalizado 27 grabaciones en
25 años de carrera discográfica, un logro superlativo que denota su
apasionada dedicación a la música y en especial al denominado ‘rock
con ñ’, el que se escribe y canta en español.
En su doble faceta de cantante y compositor a Bunbury se le han
dedicado 17 libros, entre ellos uno que se llama ‘El Aragonés Errante’
que lo describe como inmerso en un viaje que “nunca termina… (pues)
sigue y continúa como si el punto de partida cambiara constantemente a lo largo de la marcha”. Cronológicamente, sí hubo un punto
de partida y una fecha en su incesante deambular: Héroes del Silencio
en 1987 y un disco de título profético, “Héroe De Leyenda”, el inicio de
su legendario liderazgo en una experiencia que varios críticos definen
como “la banda de rock más internacional que ha existido en España”.
En su militante marcha de solista y voluntarioso colaborador de
múltiples proyectos de otros artistas, Bunbury se ofrenda en 1996 a
través de un álbum que lo retrata de cuerpo entero en su resolución
personal: “Para Siempre”. En seguida le pone tilde a su ñ con “Radical
Sonora” y así, paso a paso, enrielado en el mejor rock, ese que en cada
concierto se desgarra en vocacional entrega y testimonio, llega a su
propuesta más ecléctica, un “Licenciado Cantinas” que lo transporta
de antro en antro y de éxito en éxito hasta consumar este 2012 el más
elaborado tour, recorriendo junto a sus músicos y coros los escenarios de
América Latina, desde Puerto Rico y México hasta el cono sur del continente; más España y Estados Unidos.
“Bunbury es un divo, es una leyenda, es un ícono. A estas alturas ya
parece tener todo lo que un artista de rock quisiera”, escribió de él la
revista Rock en las Américas refiriéndose a la calidad del repertorio e
interpretación de su álbum “De Todo El Mundo” (2010); y agregando
que también es “mítico” y “nadie se acerca a tomar (su) puesto”.

Antes de Héroes del Silencio
A comienzos de los años 80 debutó con la
banda escolar Apocalipsis. Más adelante tocó
con Proceso Entrópico. En 1984 debutó como
vocalista con Zumo de Vidrio, tras lo cual adopta el nombre artístico de Bunbury, basándose en
la obra teatral ‘La Importancia de llamarse
Ernesto’ de Oscar Wilde.
Huracanado y sin parar
Tras separarse de Héroes del Silencio, hasta el
año 2005 su propia banda es conocida como
“Huracán Ambulante”.

After departing from Héroes del Silencio, Bunbury
christened his next band, which backed him
through 2005, as “Huracán Ambulante” (Mobile
Hurricane).

Reinventing himself with his most recent album Licenciado
Cantinas, Enrique Bunbury (SGAE), has released 27 albums over his
25-year career. His prolific body of work speaks to his passionate
dedication to music and especially ‘rock with ñ,’ which refers to
rock music written and sung in Spanish.
The singer/songwriter Bunbury has had no fewer than 17
books dedicated to him, including one titled El Aragonés Errante
that describes him as being immersed in a quest that “never
ends…(because) it continues as if the point of departure had
constantly shifted over the course of the journey.”
But speaking chronologically, we could determine the date
when his continuous wandering began: with the debut album by
his former group Héroes del Silencio in 1987, titled Héroe De
Leyenda. This presaged his leadership role in what critics called
“the most internationally prominent rock band to come out of
Spain.”
In his militant trek as a solo artist, Bunbury in 1996 offered up an
album that laid bare his personal side: Para Siempre. He also
became a welcomed collaborator on other talented artists'
projects.
He consolidated his reputation as a true artist for the ñ
generation with the album Radical Sonora while his concerts
became cathartic, powerful events for his growing legions for
fans. Now, we enjoy his most eclectic project, Licenciado
Cantinas, which figuratively transports him from bar to bar and
literally from success to success as he undertakes an elaborate
2012 tour. Together with his musicians and backing vocalists, he's
performing across Latin America, from Puerto Rico and Mexico to
the Southern Cone, Spain, and the United States.
As the Rock en las Américas magazine wrote about him in a
rave review of his 2010 album De Todo el Mundo, “Bunbury is a
divo, a legend, an icon. At this point, he appears to have
everything that a rock artist could wish for.” The magazine added
that he's “mythic” and that “no one is close to taking (his) place.”
