month. Our numbers are collated by Google analytics and our
own tracking mechanism, and present an accurate and
unbiased picture of entertainment consumption trends in
Pakistan.
SOME FACTS AND INSIGHTS…
With 30% of our traffic representing entertainment
consumers from outside Pakistan Vidpk is one of
the very few (if not the sole) repositories of
information on (Pakistani) entertainment
consumption habits of expatriate citizens.
In our statistical analysis we continue to see a
marked difference between the viewing patterns
of consumers in Pakistan compared with those
outside Pakistan. We have also identified that
cities within Pakistan have markedly different
entertainment consumption patterns – both in
terms of which channels are preferred as well as
which shows are popular.
Lastly, but perhaps most interestingly we have
seen that viewers consume archived and off the
air shows as well as old Pakistani films with the
same voracity that they consume on air and
current content!

CHANNEL MARKET SHARE (BY CITY) IN PAKISTAN
PTV remains the top channel in Pakistan closely followed by GEO, HUM and ARY. What is interesting to
note is that within Pakistan Karachi (and Lahore to some extent) is the only market that defies this trend
i.e. the Karachi audience tends to favors the four major entertainment outlets almost evenly.

CHANNEL MARKET SHARE BY COUNTRY
In the expatriate (international) market the popularity trends tell a very different story from the domestic
market. PTV has almost no market share. Here Hum and Geo who fight for the number two and three
spots, followed by ARY – almost evenly occupy the space left over by PTV.

Vidpk’s show rankings are based on episode and
video views from different markets tabulated
anew every month. By virtue of being able to track
viewership statistics by city (in the case of local
streams) and by country (in the case of
international streams) we believe the data we have
is not only far more accurate than other sources
but can also provide detailed insights into which
markets are interested in which specific shows as
well as types of shows. Our tabulation aims to
refine this data in the future to focus not only on
geography but also demographic information. As
our data set shows already, popularity and tastes
vary vastly - even within Pakistan!
