Welcome to Fairview Lake YMCA Camps!
The recipe for a wonderful childhood includes adventure,
learning, safety, friends and fun. These are the
components Fairview Lake builds upon as we design our
programs. For over 100 years we have been creating
memories for children and their families.
Our programs are created to help children grow in their
sense of belonging as they meet new people and develop
life-long friendships. The community that is created at
Fairview Lake is nurtured through our staff. We go to
great lengths to find and train the best staff from all
over the world. The majority of our staff team come
from our own leadership development programs and
they understand the values and impact of Fairview Lake.
Physical, as well as emotional safety is emphasized in our
trainings and programs.
Fairview Lake is a fun place filled with friendly people.
The exciting activities draw people in, but it’s the
relationships that get formed here that get people to
come back year after year. Our campers have been
telling us that they leave here with positive memories
that last a lifetime.
Our rich heritage is a testament to what we have done
in the past but no year is more important than this
coming summer and we look forward to serving our 2016
campers.
Grace and Peace,

Est. 1915
LAUREL
RIDGE
Girls entering grades 5-10
Est. 1968
Kittatinny is our male traditional camp program unit and Laurel Ridge is our female traditional camp program unit.
Campers will share a cabin with other boys or girls their age. Our 3-week sessions allow for plenty of opportunity to
develop relationships, while participating in an array of cabin and program activities. Each week, campers will have the
opportunity to select three progressive program activities in which to participate. Campers will participate in each of these
selected activities on a daily basis, along with swim instruction and opportunities for unstructured free play. Each evening,
campers will participate in an all-camp activity prior to lights out. Believe it or not there is still time for “siesta” right after
lunch when everyone has a little quiet time to read a book, write home, share time with friends or visit the Trading Post.

TRADITIONAL CAMP
(CONT.)
MINISINK Coed entering grades 2-4
Est. 1928
Our Minisink program is an ideal introductory experience for the younger camper. For many
of our younger campers, this is their first time away from home and therefore, the goals of the
program are to provide a safe and comforting environment for our participants so that they
may feel challenged to try new things and develop a sense of independence. In addition, the
Minisink program provides a balance of structured and choice activities. Each camper receives
swim instruction, cabin and unit activities plus two elected periods daily. The afternoon
concludes with the campers electing to participate in a recreational swim or heading to the
athletic field for sports. While Minisink campers receive the individual attention they need,
they also enjoy participating in all camp activities and meals with the older Laurel Ridge and
Kittatinny campers. This is perfect when siblings attend camp together and also makes for a
smooth transition into Laurel Ridge and Kittatinny as the campers get older.

In the second week, campers will select two week-long
specialty programs. These programs include sailing/
windsurfing, horseback riding, target sports, high

perfect program for any threeweek traditional camper to have the
opportunity to extend their stay
and to participate in one more week
of their favorite camp activities.

RANCH CAMP
1
ONE-WEEK PROGRAM Entering grades 4-10
Our comprehensive riding program builds skills and confidence for campers who love horses
and are ready for a focused and fun summer program. Each camper or “Ranchie” will be taught
riding and horsemanship skills, including grooming, tacking and barn work. Lessons for beginners
through advanced riders are led by skilled riding instructors from a wide selection of disciplines.
Campers are instructed in our riding ring, and are also taken on trail rides throughout Fairview
Lake’s 660 pristine acres. Campers will also have opportunities for swimming and traditional
camp activities in the evenings. At the end of the session campers will participate in a horse
show, giving them the chance to demonstrate their newly found skills. Our Riding Director is an
ACA approved Certified Riding Instructor and our horses are carefully selected for riders of all
ages and abilities.

OPEN-MINDED
Living and playing with an open mind is a way of life at camp. Campers come
from many different backgrounds, allowing campers the opportunity to learn
from others who are different from themselves. This is an important take
away for campers to use right through adulthood.

YOUR OWN HORSE FOR THE SESSION
2
TWO-WEEK PROGRAM Girls entering grades 4-10
Our two-week Ranch Camp gives girls the opportunity to advance their abilities as young
equestrians. Building on the curriculum of our one-week program, campers will have lessons and
trail rides, and will increase their knowledge of horses and learn basic animal care; recognizing
common diseases, reading vital signs, and administering basic first-aid. As a culminating event
campers will participate in a horse show, giving them a chance to demonstrate sharpened skills.
August campers attend the nationally famous Sussex County Farm and Horse Show at the New
Jersey State Fair. Ranchies and their dedicated staff will stay in Wickapeck, a turn-of-the-century
farm house which was converted into a comfortable dorm-style cabin.

CIT PROGRAM
v
COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM
For Traditional, Adventure Trips and Ranch Campers
Coed entering grade 11 (16 years-old)
4-WEEK
PROGRAM
The CIT program is an extensive and rigorous four-week program that offers selected
applicants the opportunity to develop leadership, program, outdoor living, and effective
counselor skills. The focus is on small group dynamics, communication skills, teamwork and
value clarification, as well as conflict resolution. Selected applicants participate in a variety
of exercises and challenges and also have the opportunity to take the American Red Cross
Lifeguard Course.
The first three weeks of the program will focus on skills and techniques through a plethora
of exciting lessons. The final week of the program will provide applicants the opportunity to
experience the life of a camp counselor as they are fully immersed in assisting counselors.
Due to the success of the program, we will be offering two, four-week programs to allow
for more individual growth and attention. The goal is to have our CITs leave their four-week
program with the skills to be effective leaders at camp, and back home in their communities.
Please contact the summer camp director for specific information.

ADVENTURE TRIPS
ADVENTURE RATING SYSTEM
ENVIRONMENTAL TRIPS
FOR CHALLENGE (E.T.C.)
WHICH ADVENTURE CAMP OR TRIP IS MOST SUITABLE
FOR YOUR CAMPER?
E.T.C. uses Fairview Lake YMCA as a home base staying in
our seasonal cabins with a central bathhouse and pavilion.
We want you to experience the joy of your surroundings, the
satisfaction of meeting new challenges, and the discovery
of special friendships. An experienced, trained, responsible
staff member, who is at least 21 years-old, leads each trip
with at least one additional staff member. While on the
trail backpacking or hiking, or canoeing on the river, you’ll
experience outdoor camping, cooking and sleeping in tents.
Expect to support each other, push limits, reach new heights
and discover a new you!
CAMPS VS TRIPS
CAMPS: This is an adventurous experience that is here at
Fairview Lake for the entirety of the campers’ stay.
TRIPS: These experiences are mainly off-site. Campers will
be using Fairview Lake as a base camp. Time off-site will be
spent camping out.
Our Levels of Challenge system refers to the skill and ability
level of the participant required of the program. This system
should assist with your decision and help in putting your
camper on the right track.
Level 1: Minimal outdoor skills and ability
required. Entire program takes place on-site.
Level 2: Basic outdoor skills and ability
required. One-day or one night off-site
campout can be expected.
Level 3: Can be two weeks in length and
include multi-day trips away from camp either
on the Appalachian Trail or Delaware River.
Level 4: Are our longest sessions and
spend the most time away from camp.
