The theme of this year’s festival is “Everybody’s Welcome” We hope that there’s something that every resident can join in with. ARTS WORKSHOPS AND PARADE This year professional artists from Bristol, led by Ruth Ramsay, have been working for one day with children at each of Patchway’s five primary schools to produce artefacts and costumes for the parade which starts the day’s activities. Each school has chosen a topic to depict a different aspect of this year’s festival theme: “Everyone’s Welcome ” Callicroft Primary: Children/people from around the world. (Mixed ages) Coniston Primary: A warm welcome with Tea and Cakes (Year 2 ) Holy Family Catholic Primary: Spain—A colourful Gaudi welcome. (Mixed ages) St. Chad’s Primary: Fairy Characters from around the world (Year 6 ) Stoke Lodge Primary: Pineapples, The international symbol for welcome (Year 3) The parade leaves Coniston Community Centre at 12.30pm and walks from The Parade down Coniston Road into Scott Park ready for the official opening at 1.00pm by Councillor Chris Mills (Mayor of Patchway) The Festival Committee would like to thank the Heads, teaching and other staff and children involved with the workshops at all the above schools or in organising the children for the parade. Come and hear the latest developments directly from the team looking to make history. J.C.Calloway & his Prohibition Jazz Band The band has recently celebrated it’s first birthday on Friday 10th July . We became one of Bristol’s most sought after jazz acts. We play authentic sounds of the 1920’s and 30’s including our own original music .Band members are Annalise Lam (violin), Rich Colquhoun (trumpet) Henry Edmond (string bass )Tom Parry (clarinet), J. C. Calloway-(Piano, vocals, conduction). We also have a guest gypsy jazz guitarist Raffa. “The Dynamics” Dynamics is a pop group made up of Mikayla, Ellie, Amy and Jas, who met at a Union J signing and kept in touch. Mikayla was already attending Patchway Youth Centre music project nights and she invited the others to come along and Dynamics was born. They have been working with Youth Worker, Andrew ‘Bean’ Baker and say that “working with Bean has been amazing. He has helped our confidence with our singing and supported us with producing tracks”. Telson Band Telson is a 4 piece band. Lead guitarist and vocals is Steve Lacey. On drums is his son Kieren Bustin with whom he’s been jamming since Kieran was four. Bass guitar is Ben ( jamming )he likes to be called, and rhythm guitar is Brendan, local from Patchway. They play Jimi Hendrix style music and some Blues as well. If you go on to You Tube and put in Telson Band it will pull them up, but I'm afraid that was a couple of years ago. Georgia Hart Georgia is a 17 year old student who works part time at Pizza Hut in the Mall . She has just finished her first year of ALevels . She is a multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter. Recently they came first in the British Championships in Lincoln as well as gaining various awards in Solo, Duo and Quad competitions. They are based at Patchway Youth Centre, Coniston Road where they have an open class time between 2—3p.m. on Sundays for anyone age 6+. Come along on 12th or 19th. July for a free first session.
