What’s Cooking in Dining Services
The Dining Department has been hard at work since
the last time I had the opportunity to address you in
the resident newsletter. We have prepared more than
16,000 meals every month in our five dining venues.
That does not include all of the catering we do, as well.
That’s a lot of dishes to wash! I am extremely proud of
our dining staff for doing such an excellent job during
the weeklong state survey we had in February.
Our new menu cycle will begin in May. It’s my
pleasure to inform you that Tim Wilson was promoted
to Sous Chef. In his role, Tim oversees food production
and ordering when Chef Chad has the day off. Tim has
been at the Village for more than two years and has
worked in the industry for more than 25 years. His
work ethic and knowledge is a great asset to our team.
Please continue to fill out the comment cards; we
look forward to your feedback!

Friends of
the Earth
Protecting the
environment begins
with an appreciation
for nature. As you step
outside this spring to
enjoy the warmer
weather, pay attention
to the signs of life
around you—the new
buds on trees, birds
singing, and the
colorful wings of a
butterfly in flight.
Each is a sweet
reminder of why
Earth-friendly efforts
such as recycling and
water conservation are
important.

Memorial Day
The National Moment of
Remembrance was created by
President William Clinton
requesting that all Americans
observe a moment of silence at
3:00 p.m. on each Memorial Day to
remember and reflect on the
sacrifices made by so many to
provide freedom for all.
As a token of our gratitude for
those who served, we have
sponsored bouquets through The
Memorial Day Foundation, to be
placed on war memorials for
Memorial Day. One was purchased
on behalf of all residents and staff.
Another was purchased in honor of
our Westminster Veterans’ group. We
are truly grateful for the sacrifice of
those who served.
A delicious lunch at Nine Irish Brothers in
West Lafayette after the tour!
Let’s See What MAY Come This Month
Leading up to Mother’s Day, we will be doing some fun things, like flower
arranging with Rachel, Lunch & Learn with Chloe, Cookies & Canvas, our annual
Mother’s Day Tea and a Chico’s Style Show on the 13th!
We will have some great programs this month! Riverboat Ramblers will be here
on May 16. Tippi Choral Club will be here the 23rd, and Jeff Anderson on
the 26th.
We have educational programs, too! The Purdue Liberal Arts Lecture Series
wraps up this month, on the 11th. The Gold Star Mother’s Honor Flight
Presentation is on the 17th. Hospice 101 will be on the 31st.
On May 11th, we will be taking a “Ladies that Lunch” outing. We will be going
to Gretel’s & Kitchen Art, followed by lunch! Be sure to sign up! The first trip to the
Lafayette Citizen’s Band will be on Memorial Day, May 30! Summer is
almost here!

The Wellness Fitness Center
Is Open!!
Volunteer
Corner
Wellness Director, Jordan Morrow, shows
Barb Carter just how inclusive the new
wellness center equipment is for all users.
Everyone is encouraged to come and see
what the new center has to offer!
The new Wellness Group Exercise Room
will be the spot to find new classes! The
sprung-wood floor minimizes stress on the
joints and supports balance. The Ballroom
Dance Class will now be held in this
beautiful room.
Meet Weldon! He is the newest member of
the Westminster Family. He can be found
in Meraki Studio. He would love for you to
stop by and see him ... and Rachel, too!
The Volunteer Banquet on April 20
was a Jubilee celebration. Attendees
dined while listening to a violin/cello
duo by Karen Isaacs. Dawn Bodi,
Westminster Chaplain, shared the
historical relevance of the Jubilee. As
always, the award presentation was the
highlight of the night.
Westminster is so grateful for all of
its volunteers! Congratulations to this

Assisted Living Activities
Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with style! From
left: Rebekah Rackar-Gaspar, Ruth Rowland,
Gladys Hodge, Helen Byers, Angela Foster,
Phyllis Sexton, Guthrie Carr, Betty Carr, and
Frances Cargnino.
Hello from Assisted Living!
April was a busy month for us! We experienced Japan’s
Cherry Blossom Festival with beautiful acrylic paintings,
and planted baby trees for Arbor Day. We enjoyed a lunch
outing to Baker’s Peak, and had quite a turnout for early
voting! As always, the zoo visit was a highlight for us.
In May, we are looking forward to celebrating Cinco de
Mayo by hand-crafting traditional papel picado banners,
and sampling delicious Mexican pastries. We will make
bird-themed art projects this month, including wax
stained glass songbirds, and a “shabby chic”-inspired nest
wall hanging. May will also bring us music from Dave
Laskey, Judy Meister, Jeff Anderson, and Charis.
We can’t wait to see what’s down the road for us!
Health Center Happenings
Residents enjoying Art with Rachel painting
birds. From Left: Donna Mohler, Marge
Anderson, Jeanne Ward, Nadya Crecelius,
and Marilyn Fliotsos.
The ducks are back! Come visit them in the Terrace
Courtyard! In addition to ducks, the Columbian Park Zoo
will bring us some more animals to look at and touch on
May 11. For entertainment this month we will enjoy Dave
Laskey on electric guitar, Paula Dillard on dulcimer, Randy
Stirm on acoustic guitar, and Kenny Holcomb singing
gospel, country, and pop. On Wednesdays, we enjoy Art
with Rachel. Everyone is invited to bring their creativity
and join us in the Courtyard Activities Room!
We will travel around the world in May visiting Mexico,
England, Peru, Thailand, and Ethiopia. We will enjoy van
outings every other Monday and have plans to stop for ice
cream. Please stop by the Health Center for cookies and
milk every other Tuesday and popcorn on Fridays!
