The name of the book is Practice Resurrection. Here’s a blurb from Amazon to whet your appetite: There is no question that bringing men and women to new birth in Christ is essential. But, argues Eugene Peterson, isn’t it obvious that growth in Christ is equally essential? Yet the American church does not treat Christian growth and character formation with equivalent urgency. We are generally uneasy with the quiet, obscure conditions in which growth takes place. Building maturity in Christ is too often relegated to footnote status in the text of our lives. / In Practice Resurrection Peterson brings the voice of Scripture — especially Paul’s letter to the Ephesians — and the voice of the contemporary Christian congregation together in understanding what is involved in the practice of becoming mature — growing up to the “stature of Christ.” Come and join us at 9:45 a.m. on Sundays for the fellowship, Bible Study and challenges that this book will bring to us as individual believers and as a congregation. April/May Mission Project: Food - As we are approaching the summer months, it’s a time when school children face even more hardship because they are not receiving school lunches, consequently, the area food banks see a sharp increase in families coming to them for assistance. So let’s try to ensure that this particular food bank is fully stocked. Remember, non-perishables are not just cans, it includes rice, pasta, peanut butter, Ramen noodles - these are also foods that can be cooked in the microwave, this is something to think about, at home, you may have a stove, a toaster oven and a microwave, however some families may only have a microwave. Our goal is 500 ‘cans’ please help in any way you can. There is a table in the narthex, just place the food there. Thank you. Elon Preschool has a busy May ahead, as children prepare to ‘move up’ from the three year old to the four year old program and graduate and get ready to go to kindergarten. Anne Burch, preschool director and Kim Hedrick, preschool teacher, do a wonderful job in preparing these kids for the next step in their education; through God’s word, they teach letters, numbers, even reading and counting. The children learn to say grace before snack time, they learn to wait their turn and interact with others, and of course, enjoy playtime on the playground. Many of our own children & grandchildren benefitted from going this program and we hope it continues for many more years. Thank you Anne & Kim!! Moving Up Ceremony - Tuesday, May 19th, 11 a.m. Graduation Ceremony - Wednesday, May 20th, 7 p.m. Donations so far....peanut butter & tinned meat/fish is particularly good protein.
