Founders of the OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute
(OLLI) at Penn State York
Through the efforts of three like-minded
women (clockwise from left, Charmaine
Kissinger, Olive Padden and the late
Gussie Petron) and a number of other
volunteers, the Osher Lifelong Learning
Institute (OLLI) initiated an association
with Penn State York. In 2007, a nonprofit,
all volunteer-driven organization was
established to enrich the lives of mature
adults living in York County by providing a
variety of educational and social activities.
Classes began in April 2008.
How does OLLI at Penn State York work?
OLLI at Penn State York is a membership organization. Members
may participate in any of the OLLI activities, which include
courses and special events. OLLI activities usually take place
during the day. While most of the classes take place on the Penn
State York campus, trips outside the classroom are scheduled
to enhance our members’ search of never-ending learning
experiences. Individuals acknowledge and assume any and all
risk associated with participation in OLLI activities. OLLI makes
no representation regarding the appropriateness of any activity
for an individual. OLLI disclaims any and all liability for each
individual’s participation in said activities. If a program involves
physical activity, participants are responsible for wearing the
proper attire and using the proper equipment (if applicable). It
is highly recommended that participants consult their physician
before participating in physical activity. OLLI disclaims any and
all liability for each individual’s participation in any program that
involves physical activity. Penn State York serves only as the site
for OLLI and therefore disclaims any and all responsibility for any
OLLI programs.
Registration Requirements
Prior registration is required for all classes. There will be no
walk-ins. This will enable us to schedule the room (size)

altruism, progress, and the aesthetics of architecture.
As the most intellectual of American presidents,

of class, or bring containers to take your meal with you.
*Please be advised, the summer kitchen is not climate

OLLI is reaching out to individuals who may not be able to attend offerings during their busy days. Rich Santel,

be shown on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m., every-other-week, beginning September 14th, through
October 26th. Additionally, we’re offering a “pick your package” pricing approach. There are four movies. You can
sign up for all four, or you can sign up for one, two or three; you decide. This is the perfect opportunity to bring
guests and acquaint them to OLLI (please be sure that if you invite guests, you pay for them…). Just know that
there will be no refunds, and no credit offered if you miss any of the movies for which you sign up.

who has been missing for several days, they set off into the
woods to see it. Along the way, they learn about themselves,
the meaning of friendship, and the need to stand up for what
is right.
An alcoholic (Jack Lemmon) falls in love with, and marries a
young woman (Lee Remick), whom he systematically addicts
to booze so they can share his “passion” together.

OLLI
it is your
As many of you know, OLLI at Penn State York is expected to be self-sustaining before the beginning of
the next academic year (Fall, 2017). Membership fees and course tuition fees do not cover all of the costs of
running your OLLI. In October, you will receive a letter asking for your financial support. When you receive
that letter, think about everything OLLI means to you, and how OLLI has enhanced your life. And remember,
every new donation, and every increase in previous individual donation amounts will be matched, dollar-fordollar, up to a maximum of $5,000, so your gifts will go even further. Please consider digging a little deeper, to
help OLLI remain the vital resource that it is. Thank you!
