Norm Daniels (pictured left) was busy helping with the dinner as a member of the Knights of Columbus when his name was called to receive the Citizen of the Year 2011 plaque presented by Mike Henry, the 2010 Citizen of the Year. Norm is very active with the Knights, serving as a past Grand Knight and District Deputy. He has been honored as Knight of the Year and his family as Family of the Year. He also helped with the construction of the Knight’s building. He serves as president of the Tuscola County Homeless Coalition and for 20 years has been the treasurer of a local credit union board. He devotes many hours to the Tuscola County Pumpkin Festival each year. Norm says, “I’ve always figured that the more you can do for your community, the better it is for you and for your family.” The 2011 Merit Award went to Jim and Julie Matuszak for their many hours given to help with the Tuscola County Pumpkin Festival over the years. They organized the festival’s car and motorcycle shows spending hours recruiting and planning the event. On their farm they volunteered countless hours to grow pumpkins for the area school children and made sure they were delivered to the schools. They are also usually available when Santa and the Easter Bunny come to town. Jim & Julie like working behind the scenes and don’t do things “. . . to get honored, but enjoy helping out . . .” Margie Sylvester, the 2011 Merit Winner presented the plaque to the couple. Erica Boyd, Todd Dennis and Kendle Ehrenberg were nominated for Junior Citizen of the Year 2011. Kendle was chosen to receive the honor. She has already been volunteering for many years of her life as her family actively helps with many events. The last few years, she has helped the Caro Chamber in many ways and with every festival and event. She is active in sports at the Caro High School being a member of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams. She loves working with children and has helped with the athletic reading program and she has her own baby-sitting business. Kendle received her plaque from Chamber Director Mark Ransford and last year’s Junior Citizen, Danielle Babcock. Jim McLoskey, representing Senator Mike Green, presented each of the recipients a framed proclamation signed by Senator Green, Representative Damrow and Governor Snyder. Page 5 Love Leads to Office Relocation & Expansion of Services Six years ago an aspiring entrepreneur, Kris McArdle, moved to Caro and opened an event planning and marketing services firm in downtown. Over the course of those years, Infinite Creative Services, Inc. (ICS) grew from a 10’ x 10’ cubicle in an incubator program with the Caro Downtown Development Authority to a private office above Independent Bank. The business also grew to include business consulting from the M i c h i g a n S ma l l B u s in e s s & Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) and Thumb area tourism promotion through the Thumb Area Tourism Council, Inc. (TATC). “After leaving corporate America to start my business, it was my family that initially drew me to Caro,” said McArdle. “Ultimately, though, Caro provided the best location and resources to fulfill my goal of sharing my passion and marketing knowledge with other entrepreneurs and business owners in the area” But now love has McArdle relocating her business to southwestern Michigan as she has plans to marry a gentleman in the St. Joseph/Benton Harbor area. Her move date is slated for May 31; however, she wants folks to know that she plans to continue serving the Thumb area with marketing services and Thumb area promotion and will add social media resources to her service line. She can easily do this without a physical presence in town through conference calls, e-mails and online meetings. Plus, since her family and her fiancé’s family live in the area, they plan to return often. Unfortunately, though, her involvement with the MI-SBTDC will be reduced as she will no longer serve as one of the Certified Business Consultants for the Great Lakes Bay Region. “It truly has been a pleasure working and living in Caro,” shared McArdle. “I’m very grateful for the opportunities that came my way and the amazing people I’ve met, and I look forward to continuing to work with many of them!” Caro CHIROFIT Dr. Tim Sala D.C.
