TUSCOLA AREA AIRPORT
Address:
1750 Speirs Drive
Caro, MI 48723
Phone:

Employs: 2
The Tuscola Area
Airport is a public use
airport located 3
nautical miles southwest of Caro. It is
identified as CFS by
the Federal Aviation
Administration, but by the people of our surrounding area, it is identified as a hidden
treasure.
The Tuscola Area Airport covers an area of 260 acres at an elevation of 701 feet
above mean sea level. It has two runways - 5/23 is 4,300 by 75 feet with an asphalt
pavement and 12/30 is 2,300 by 110 feet with a turf surface.
The Airport Authority was formed in 1993 and is made up of all the towns and
townships in Tuscola County, the City of Caro, Cass City, and Elkland Township.
The Tuscola Area Airport continues to be a gateway to the world for Tuscola
County. Pilots of planes, both big and small, are served for business and pleasure
flights, agricultural use, and Wings of Mercy flights. A special thanks goes to the
pilots and the service they provide to those in need.
Jets, props, helicopters, seaplanes, crop dusters, and historic planes make use of the
airport. Planes are brought to the airport to be repaired and for their annual
certification. While many of these planes come and go, the airport is a permanent
home to over 40 planes.
For people flying in for business or pleasure there is a welcome center that can assist
in planning flights and plotting weather conditions. Fuel is available for purchase
and ground transportation is available to the pilots and passengers in the form of a
courtesy van that was donated by Moore Motors for the use of the guests.
A new piece of equipment (pictured above) was recently added to keep the snow off
the runway and the grass mowed. It is a New Holland TV 6070 155hp tractor with a
big snow blower and loader. This was purchased in part with donations from local
citizens.
Other public uses of the Airport include Boy Scout camp outs, the Annual Kiwanis
Fly-In, and the staging area for Thunder Across the Thumb.
Our Mission: “The mission of the Caro Chamber of Commerce is to
create a positive and productive environment where business can
grow and prosper, while enhancing the quality of life in the Caro
area.”

The Chris Barrios

provider, opened its
doors for business
on
September 1st.
Their new office is
conveniently located
at 1230 Cleaver
Road (North M-24)
in the former Team One Credit Union Office.
Convenient, hassle free parking and extended office hours
are a bonus that the Chris Barrios Agency is excited to
offer its customers. “Our office is open Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,
Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday
from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to meet the business needs of
our busy customers. We have plenty of parking space and
you don’t have to fight the traffic to get in or out of our
office. I couldn’t be more pleased with our location.”
Chris is a 2003 graduate of North Branch High School, a
Thumb Meet of Champions medal winner, and a 2009
graduate of Saginaw Valley State University, where he
received a BS in Kiniesiology and minor in Coaching.
While attending SVSU, Chris was a sprinter on the SVSU
Track and Field Team, where he earned GLIAC
All-Conference recognition. Prior to opening his own
agency, Chris worked for the Rollie Stephens State Farm
Agency in Flushing, and he completed his internship with
the Andy Wilder Agency in Yale, MI.
Chris currently lives in Cass City and is the very proud
father of Rodney Christopher (Hot Rod). Chris is the
youngest son of David and Nancy Barrios of Cass City,
formerly of North Branch.
Chris’ office staff includes Silena Rogers of North Branch
and Amanda Light of Munger. Their Grand Opening is
scheduled for Saturday, October 6th. Hot dogs and
refreshments will be served. While you’re up town touring
the pumpkin decorating contests and picking up your fresh
pumpkin pie, stop by our office for refreshments and a free
quote. We have Auto, Home, Life and Health Insurance as
well as a variety of financial and investment products to
serve your needs.

Ribbon
Cutting
ceremony at their
Grand Re-Opening
on
Monday,
August 13, in their
beautifully
remodeled Caro
restaurant.
They
have more seating
and outlets for
computer use. Many Caro officials and citizens turned out
to help them celebrate. McDonald’s is a family-owned
and operated business with restaurants in Caro and Cass
City. During the ceremony they made donations to the
Caro Area District Library and The Fowler Center. The
Luths are very appreciative of their employees and
customers.
Family members, from left to right, are Greg
Hollingsworth, Jimmy Luth, Trish Hollingsworth, Jim
Luth and Cheryl Luth.

Anchor Cove Outreach Church
opened its doors with the first service
on February 27, 2011, across from
Wal-Mart. It is a church plant of Old
Town Christian Outreach Center in
Saginaw. They have provided a nondenominational, spirit-filled church
with contemporary praise and worship.
They have been blessed with growth by
leaps and bounds and have recently
purchased property at 201 East Sanilac
Road (just east of the M-46 and M-24
intersections). They have remodeled the
building on the property and have lots
of room to build and expand.
The church continues “to remain a
casually dressed, come-as-you-are,
disciple-oriented congregation with a
heart for outreach in our local
community,” as Pastor Dave
Wilczynski described it when the
church was first started.
A Grand Opening Celebration at their
new building will take place on October
28, 2012, at 5 p.m. For more
information contact Pastor Dave at 989672-2262.
Team One Credit Union Raises
Money for the Food Bank of
Eastern Michigan
Team One recently participated in the
Food Bank of Eastern Michigan’s third
annual Caring Community Credit
Unions fundraising drive. With the
theme of “Hunger Does Not Take A
Vacation,” the credit union sold
“passport stamps” with a $1 donation
representing the equivalent of 6 meals
that the Food Bank can provide to those
in need. Five dollars equaled 30 meals
and $10 provided 60 meals.
Through the generosity of members
and staff, Team One raised over $1,050
during the event which will help the
Food Bank provide food to over 50,000
“Team One’s donation will make a
significant difference in the lives of
thousands,” states William Kerr,
President of the Food Bank. “We
appreciate their continued commitment
to alleviate hunger in our
community.” Team One also participates in the Food Bank’s Backpack
program which provides children who
are at-risk of hunger nutritious food
every weekend throughout the school
year.
For over 75 years, Team One Credit
Union has been a proud member of the
community. Services are open to
anyone living or working in Saginaw,
Bay, Tuscola, Huron, Sanilac, Genesee,
Shiawassee and Lapeer counties. For

TEAM ONE
DONATES TO
THE
AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
Team One Credit Union held its
annual Donald Pilon Commemorative
Golf Outing benefiting the American
Cancer Society on July 20th. This year,
golfers and volunteers at the event
helped Team One raise $2,274 for the
American Cancer Society in its quest to
cure cancer.
Jocelyn Hall, Community
Representative for the American
Cancer Society, attended the event and
accepted the donation on behalf of the
American Cancer Society. “All
throughout the year, Team One staff
and members help raise funds for the
fight against cancer,” states Jocelyn,
“and we really couldn’t be doing what
we’re doing as far as research dollars,
programs and services that we make
available to the community without
people like them. In addition to the golf
outing, Team One has been part of a
number of different fundraising
opportunities for the American Cancer
Society including the Making Strides
Against Breast Cancer Walk, Relay For
Life events, and our Daffodil Days
fundraisers.”
For over 75 years, Team One Credit
Union has been a proud member of the
community, providing the financial
products and services local families and
businesses need. Services are open to
anyone living or working in Saginaw,
Bay, Tuscola, Huron, Sanilac, Genesee,
Shiawassee and Lapeer counties. Team
One has 7 branches throughout

CARO CHAMBER
IS MOVED!
On August 31 the
Chamber office moved to
its beautiful new office at 429 North
State Street across from the Tuscola
County Court House. If you come in the
front door we are the first door on the
right. The office isn’t quite complete
and we are still in the process of getting
things “just where we want them” to
function efficiently. But, we are open
and we want you to feel free to stop in
and say “hello” and see our new home.
We will be having an Open House when
the building is completely remodeled
and all the businesses moved in. Thanks
for your patience if you have
experienced any interruption in service.
A BIG thank you to those who helped
with the last Roadside Pick-Up for
2012 - Dr. Mark Strzelewicz and
family, staff and clients from Betsy’s
Place and Leianne Nichols of Caro
Pool and Supply. The Chamber
appreciates having our roadsides clean
especially for upcoming events such
as the Tuscola County Pumpkin
Festival.

CARO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
AFTER HOURS
Don’t miss these evenings of fun,
refreshments, and networking with other businesses in the area!
August After Hours was held at the Tuscola Behavior Health
Systems’ Personal Independence Center building. The staff of
Tuscola Behavioral Health Systems (TBHS) provides
effective, comprehensive, quality treatment to help with
struggles, whether related to mental illness, developmental
disability, or co-existing substance use disorder. TBHS
works together with individuals and families to help build
necessary partnerships to meet needs openly with care and
respect. Many of their programs take place in the PIC
building. We thank them for hosting the After Hours and
informing Chamber members of the services available.
In September, a delightful After Hours was held at
Maple Grove Veterinary Clinic. Tours were given of
their beautiful building, kennel and the newly opened
Pet ReTREAT where doggies can stay during the day
while their owners are away from home. Their motto is
“Live, Love, Play.” They may be reached at 989-6737529 (PLAY). And as always, networking was at its
best.
