Let’s not forget to welcome all of our new students

their new home. They are all a part of the Raider Family!
We thank all the new members for joining us this year.
Let’s have a great year at Richland High School!
Faculty Member of the Week
The faculty member of the week is our head principal Coach Landers. Coach Landers had this to
say about the new school year, he was very anxious and nervous but very excited about meeting this year’s
goals. He was also asked what changes would be made to Richland High School this year. He said the focus will
be more on making sure all students meet the graduation requirements, having a structured environment in the
school, cultivating a family of togetherness, and having one of the best schools in the county and mid-state.
Thank you Coach Landers for all your hard work and let’s have a great year at Richland High School!

In an interview with the coach of Richland football, Coach Joe Moos
says he is very excited about this upcoming season. He was very
enthusiastic about the program and what it is becoming. He says he
cannot wait for the first game.
Moos says that what made him come to Richland was the
commitment and that he likes and believes in Principal Micah
Landers. Coach Moos says that Principal Landers has a good thing
going for the school and has faith in him 100 percent
Coach Moos says his goal is to build the program “brick by brick” like
Tennessee Volunteers head coach Butch Jones. Moos says that the
program and players are coming along wonderfully and they are ready
for Richland’s first game against Moore County, August 22nd.
The style of play that Richland will be running is a pistol type offense.
They will be running the ball aggressively and Moos says they want to
be as physical as possible. When I asked him about any standout
players to watch for, he said the whole team is a unit, and the players
will have to work together to be successful. Moos wants to keep all
talent at Richland, where in the past they might have gone south to
Giles County.

Coach Susannah Loveless says that
the upcoming girls soccer season is
looking promising. She says they
are a young team with a lot of
potential. She says they are
motivated through leadership and
hard work. Their first home game is
Thursday, Aug. 21 so come out and
support our lady raiders.

New Dog Collar
By Nick Graves
An article on Mirror’s website “New
Hi-Tech Dog Collar That Reads Pet
Emotions Will TEXT You If It's Sad”
says that the collar will help you
monitor your dog’s health easier. The
collar works by analyzing the
temperature, heart rate, and
breathing activities of your particular
breed of dog. The collars are set to
record your animal’s natural behavior
and decides when it is different from
before and sends you an e-mail or
text so you can respond to the needs
of your dog. The company that is
producing this new collar PetPace
says that worried families will be able
to maintain their pooches’ best health
by responding to the texts with the
necessary means. Dr. Asaf Dagan,
chief veterinary scientist at PetPace
said: “This collar will enable pets, for
the first time, to ‘tell’ us how they
feel.’ The collar will go on sale in the
UK next year for $150.

Robin Williams Dead
Robin Williams in Hook
After battling severe depression for several years now, it appears that acting
legend Robin Williams has taken his life. He was found unconscious and not
breathing in his California residence in Tiburon around noon and was
pronounced dead shortly after. It is suspected that his death was caused by
hanging, but a more thorough investigation is under way. Since the news of
Robin Williams death was released, the internet has been ablaze with poorly
written tweets and Facebook posts mourning his passing. Even the president
took time out of his busy schedule to give a statement expressing his
condolences. It is quite sad to see such a talented actor/comedian pass, and
he will be greatly missed by many.

According to Fox News, a New

Puckett’s Restaurant is a great place located in the
historic downtown area of Columbia, TN. I have been
to this restaurant several times, and I am always
pleased with the quality of the food and the staff. Their
menu offers a wide variety of unique and delicious food
such as the sweet potato pancake smothered with
barbecue and fried apples. The staff is always helpful
and friendly; they also keep the restaurant
exceptionally clean and well managed. The restaurant
is very rustic and eclectic; they also have a wide
variety of live music on the weekends. I would greatly
recommend coming to this restaurant for great food
and good times.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE
“Don’t give up, don’t ever give up”
-Jimmy Valvano
I personally like this quote because the man who wrote it had cancer and still
looked to the bright side of things and if he had cancer and didn’t give up then we
shouldn’t give up on smaller situations.

Kody Butcher is a sophomore at Richland High School. He takes honor classes, tries to make good
grades, and has close to a 4.0 GPA. He is in the Beta Club. He plans on going to college to be a
Physical Therapist. He also enjoys fishing and dirt track racing.
Josh Graves is a sophomore at Richland High School. He is interested in sports and current events.
He wishes that summer break was longer and school was half as short. His plans are to go to any
college that will put up with him.
Nick Graves is a freshman at Richland High School. He is ready to get through his high school years
and then go to college at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville to get an engineering degree.
He enjoys his days off so he doesn’t have to do anything , and hopes the end of the year get here
quickly.
Keene Manning was born in Stuttgart, Germany and lived there for eight years. Keene moved to
Lynnville, TN in 2008 where he has attended Richland since 5th grade. Currently Keene is a senior,
who is very much looking forward to graduating and moving on to bigger things in life. His future
plans are to further his education at UAH, where he plans to study computer science. An
interesting fact about Keene is that while he still knows a good bit of German, he dislikes being
asked to speak it to non-German speakers. Keene feels that there is no point in it since the wall is
more likely to understand than the person asking. This has caused Keene to come to the
realization that he could make random noises and tell people it is German.
Tyler Oliver is a sophomore at Richland High School with a 3.5 GPA. He is a sports fanatic. He loves
all sports, from football to badminton. Tyler is a fun, easy going guy that tries to be friends with
everyone. Tyler is very excited about the upcoming year, and plans to take sports medicine at
Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama.
Mrs. Olson enjoys teaching English, journalism, and theater arts at Richland High School. She is a

contemporary mysteries. She is looking forward to Thanksgiving break and hopes to pursue
graduate studies in English in the future.

5th grade. Caitlynn has a brother, Caleb Payne, who goes to Richland Middle School. She also has a
sister, Chelsea Payne, who just graduated from Richland High School. Caitlynn loves to paint, cook,
bake, and do other arts and crafts. She wants to go to East Tennessee State University when she
gets out of high school. When she goes to East Tennessee State University, she wants to be an
OB/GYN.
Ariel Rhue was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia with her three siblings. She spent most of her
childhood there until moving to Tennessee in 2012. She thinks that the people in Tennessee are
nicer. She plans to go to college to further her education but hasn’t decided on which classes to
take. She enjoys many outdoor activities such as roller hocker, hiking, and riding horses.
Marleigh Rhue was born in Atlanta, GA where she spent most of her childhood before moving to
Tennessee in 2012. To her, Tennessee has more corn fields and rolling hills than Georgia. She
currently attends Richland High School with her three siblings and plans to go to college but isn’t
sure what she wants to study. Besides riding horses, she also enjoys traveling, cooking,
rollercoasters, and playing the piano.
