Bautista University of Rizal SystemMorong, Rizal PHILIPPINES INTRODUCTION “ There are about 1.5 million street children in the Philippines. “ INTRODUCTION “The STREET CHILDREN” Are there solutions for these? Answer: YES A lot of ways can help lessen and prevent these situations. It is in ACTION that we will accomplish something! INTRODUCTION “The youth is the hope of our country”. But the fact is, many of the Filipino youths are not on the right track. Many of them are neglected, abandoned and unfortunate to having not so good families (broken, poor, etc). INTRODUCTION To address one of these social issues/problems...... One possible solution is providing and extending social services of higher education institution to the community especially to undeserved and underpriviledged individuals, the CHILDREN. INTRODUCTION And here is the way we believe, we way we will be connected with the world, the best way we could be of service to the people in the community, and the way to prepare our students in the realities of life, the life outside the four corners of the classroom. “GABAY KO...ABOT-KAMAY MO” Description of the Project “Gabay Ko...Abot-Kamay Mo” is an extension project offered and implemented by the College of Science, University of Rizal System, which aims to provide the children with knowledge, information, skills, social opportunities, reorientation and enrichment of values with emphasis on the total personality development and adjustments of children. Description of the Project Its main focus is to provide social services for the children’s emotional, social, moral and psychological stability which will help them cope and overcome the situations confronting them. The need for giving attention to the whole individual, his development and adjustments must be prioritized. General Objectives Provide the children with knowledge, information, skills, social opportunities and values reorientation, values inculcation and values enrichment for the attainment of total personality development and adjustments of children in FABKI through different activities. Specific Objectives of the Project To know themselves better, their abilities, their interests and to get acquainted with other people; To help children cultivate their academic potentials through the conduct of follow-up classes and tutoring on basic subjects, thus, perform better in the schools; Provide counseling sessions and activities for them to adjust emotionally and socially; Specific Objectives of the Project Develop talents and skills of children through different activities; Inculcate, reorient, and enrich their values through film viewing and story telling ; and Become socially adjusted through socialization activities. The “Gabay Ko...Abot-Kamay “Model Planning Implementation • Planning • Survey • Visitation to FABKI • Interview with FABKI Personnel • Letter of Request/Appro val to Conduct the Project • MOA • Development • Preparation of Materials • Training and Briefing to the Students • Implementation of the Project through different Activities Final Personality and Social Adjustments/ Development of Children Instructional Material Development (Learning Modules) The activities include the following: Launching of the Project Individual Familiarization (self-introduction, writing autobiography) Follow-up Classes (Tutoring on Basic Subjects) Talents and Skills Developments (games, talent showdown, art activities) Individual, Peer and Group Counseling (Counseling Sessions) Film Showing and Social Development ( Socialization activities) Initial Outcome 1. Children become participative of the different activities. 2. Talents and skills are being cultivated and shown. 3. Positive values are inculcated, reoriented and enriched. 4. Academic basic subjects are given emphasis. 5. Children become socially adjusted. Significant Contributions 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Serve as an avenue to a wider scope of extending services to the children in the institution by the faculty and the students of the university; Support the government’s program in providing the needs of the children; Extend the services of the university to address social problems in the community.
