By: Julie H. Congratulations to the new members of Pacific’s Student Council President -‐ Matthew C. Vice-‐President -‐ Annabelle M. Secretary -‐ Lauren R. Historian -‐ Deven E. Treasurer -‐ Thomas T. I interviewed Mathew C. to learn more about him and to find out his goals as Pacific’s new President. He said that running for Student Council President felt good because he loved the friendly competition of running against his classmates. He ran for President because he loves helping the school. Matthew feels that he has the skills to be a good President because he knows how the students are feeling and will try to help fix their problems. His ideas to make Pacific School a better place include starting a photo booth with the Historian to get every kid’s picture and starting a cafeteria clean-‐up every Thursday or Friday. He will also discuss other ideas with students and the new Student Council members. 2 Interview with Talent Show Emcee, Shannon F. By: Tasmin O. Shannon F. was one of Pacific School’s amazing emcee’s. I asked Shannon a few questions about her experience being an emcee. How did you prepare? (outfits, raps, lines) “To prepare to be an emcee, I received my acts that I was announcing. I also got my rap that I would be rapping.” What was the most fun memory you remember experiencing with the other emcee's? “I think that the funniest moment that I had with the emcees was at the dress rehearsal. We were backstage and Jack Storer randomly asked me if I wanted to have a ballet dance-‐off against him. I said yes. Avery started to video tape the ballet-‐off. Across the floor, I did a combination that we do in ballet class sometimes. Then he did some sort of leap across backstage. On the last jump, he face planted into a corner of the wall. We all laughed so hard.” What do you do backstage? “Backstage, we mostly talk to each other. We joke around and on the night of the Talent Show, we made an iMovie. Altogether, we had a really fun time.” Which acts did you introduce? Did you get to choose them? “I announced acts 51-‐57. No, we do not get to choose which acts we get, but they are all amazing. However, if you have a younger sibling who is in an act, you will get to announce that act and other acts around it.” How much did you practice? “I think that I practiced a lot for being an emcee. I would practice in my room and in front of my family. They would give me tips about how to do better. I also practiced with the other emcees. At recess sometimes, we would practice. But we mostly practiced at the meetings. It was very fun practicing by myself and with the other emcees.” Who did you practice with? How did you practice? “Once I got my things that I would be participating in for the Talent Show, I practiced the lines at emcee meetings and in front of the mirror in my room. I also practiced in front of my parents and they told me how to improve it.” 3 Was the show fun? “Being an emcee made my last Talent Show even more memorable. I suggest those of you to be an emcee when you get to fifth grade. It was a fun experience!” Shannon had a very fun experience being an emcee and all the emcee’s did an amazing job. The Talent Show was great. All the acts did very well to prepare and all of the backstage workers worked hard to make sure the Talent Show was a huge success. Pacific Panthers have great talent! Interview with Mrs. Cooley about Leprechaun Traps By: Tiffany T. and Harper S. We were going to ask Mrs. Cooley, a first grade teacher here at Pacific, about their leprechaun traps -‐ which are little traps you make out of different supplies in order to catch those naughty little leprechauns who like to steal gold. As it turns out, they don’t make them anymore! So, we decided to ask Mrs. Cooley about this. Our first question was WHY they stopped making the leprechaun traps. Mrs. Cooley said that it wasn’t a very educational project and that there are other projects that would be a better use of time. We then asked what they would do instead. Mrs. C. said that the students would do a directed draw of leprechauns and write a story about their drawing. Well, there you have it, folks...that's what Mrs. Cooley’s class is doing in honor of St. Patrick’s Day! 4 Restaurant Review -‐ Second City Bistro in El Segundo By: Alek S. Second City Bistro is a perfect place to eat for springing into spring! It’s not a far drive for those who live in Manhattan Beach. It’s also not one of those fancy places that cost a lot. They’ve got a bar, outside with TV, very nice place if you ask me. BEST Cod Alaskan fish ever! Of course, you can’t leave without trying their Tiramisu! Again, it’s not a fancy night out, but still tastes awesome. The drive for those in Manhattan Beach, is about 2-‐3 miles and 2-‐5 min. It might not be local to most of you, but worth the drive. Usually not that crowded, so a good place to have a quiet dinner, unlike Rock&Brews, 50 yards away (Not EAXCTLY 50 yards but close). Good pasta, because what Italian restaurant doesn’t have pasta? It takes about 15 min. to cook your food. I’ve gotten so attached to that pasta, it’s kind of hard to stay away from it for even a whole WEEK. Good service, made friends with some employees. No offense to them, but if you sit outside, the view isn’t that great, so I suggest watching the TV (I love doing that on weekends). If you look up, you feel like you’re in the streets of Italy, with beautiful lights hanging above you, and delish food smells crossing your nose, eyes, and tongue/teeth. DELISH food, HAVE to try it! Alek’s rating: 5 out of 5. Springtime Jokes By: Heidi K. Q: Can February March? A: No, but April May. Q: What season is it when you are on a trampoline? A: Springtime! 5 Q: What flowers grow on faces? A: Tulips (two-‐lips) Q: What do you call a rabbit with fleas? A: Bugs Bunny! Spring By: Heidi K. 6
