HIAWATHALAND CORVETTE ASSOCIATION
MINUTES
September 13, 2007
Wagner’s was the “pre meeting” spot for some members who enjoyed delicious burgers before a short cruise to the KC Hall.
President Don Buskovick called the meeting to order at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 7:30 p.m. There were 23 members
and 1 guest present.
The treasurer’s report was read.
Old Business: Larry passed around samples of a new business card design. After discussion it was decided that 500 will be
ordered.
The “Let’s Play Golf” Wabasha event had been canceled due to lack of interest. It will be something to maybe try again at
another time.
The Christmas Party location has been changed. It will be at the KC Hall. The date is the same… December 16th.
Tim attended the Stewartville event on August 24th and reported that there was a great turnout there. Always a fun time .
(Stewie Cruisers club at Striker’s Bowling Alley) We’ll keep that in mind for next year. Curt said that the Rochester Club went
to the Spring Valley A & W that night and that was a good time as well. September 1st turned out to be a beautiful day for a
cruise. Hoffman’s led the group of 4 cars on a back route to St Peter where a great meal was enjoyed at Whiskey River.
Dana & Sylvia Christensen, Doris & Ron Fuller, and Colleen and Dennis Lund were along for the ride.
New Business: Ron recommended the Classic Car Show at Club 57 in Waseca on September 22nd for anyone interested.
It’s an all day event with proceeds going to the Red Cross.
Bernie’s run (Fall Color Run sponsored by Suburban Corvette Cub of MN) is October 12-14th, leaving on the 12th from Larry’s
Liquor at 6:30. Make sure you have your reservation made and registration in by October 3rd. It’s sure to be a beautiful trip
and a fun time.

WELCOME to new members Lynn & Gary Swenson (Gary was present) and potential new member Gary Lewis.
Don suggested George’s in Geneva for a run as they are a new sponsor. There was discussion and plans made
to meet at Taco John’s at 2:45 (leave at 3) for a cruise and dine at 4:30 at George’s on Saturday, October 6th.
There was plenty of interest in another fall party at the Isaac Walton Building this year so plans are being made
for a weiner roast and hay ride to be held there on November 3rd. Marilyn will check for availability…. Watch for
more details.
Craig made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Joan seconded, meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Patti Hoffman

“Vettes on the Lex”
On September 15, 2007, hundreds of Corvette lovers gathered in Corpus
Christi, Texas for the “Vettes and Jets on the Lex” event. This gathering was
organized by the Corpus Christi Corvette Club as a fundraiser for the USO and
our military men and women serving overseas and to attempt to set a world
record for the most Corvettes parked on top of an aircraft carrier at one time.
In this case, the carrier was the U.S.S. Lexington (CV-16), which is now
permanently docked in Corpus Christi as a floating naval museum. I was
happy to drive all the way to Corpus Christi (1,350 miles each way) to attend
this event, and I can say that it was “Mission Accomplished.”
September 15th started at 4:30 a.m. when the cars (all 318 of them)
were lined up to be lifted onto the flight deck of the Lexington. Each car drove
up the long, concrete ramp that connects the carrier to the shore, and the
organizers put 14 cars at a time onto the carrier's old aircraft elevator to lift
them onto the flight deck itself. It is quite a scary feeling to sense your car
swaying back and forth on a 60+ year old elevator! But, the lift went smoothly,
and all 318 cars were on the flight deck in a little over an hour.
The Lexington itself opened to the public at 9:00 a.m., and more than
6,000 people came that day to explore the museum and to see all the
Corvettes! It was quite a sight. The local television stations were all covering
the event. There were lots of people present who are involved in the Corvette
Forum, including several of the national car dealers, several aftermarket parts
suppliers, and, of course, lots and lots of owners. The pictures don't do the
event justice it was a fun, happy day, despite the nearly 100 degree, humid
weather!
When the museum closed at 5:00 p.m., the offloading of the Corvettes began,
and, again, the CCCC did a wonderful job getting everyone off in an orderly
manner (and it only took a little more than an hour).
My thanks to the members of the CCCC for their hospitality and for
their enthusiasm and organization in getting this massive event planned and
executed so well.
