PRINT BLANK FORM PRINT COMPLETED FORM AND RESET RESET FORM DISCHARGE INSTRUCTIONS Pediatric Urology – Dr. Stec Circumcision / Circumcision Revision / Chordee Repair Page 1 of 1 Form Origination Date: 6/11 Version: 2 Version Date: 03/13 Patient Name MRN PATIENT IDENTIFICATION LABEL MEDICATIONS: You can give your child acetaminophen (Tylenol ) every 4-6 hours if he is irritable or has a fever. Please call if your child a fever over 101.5°F (38.6°C). If you received a prescription pain medicine, use it for the first 24 hours, only if you think he needs it. Older children (typically older than 5 years) may need it longer (3-5 days). The prescription pain medicine has Tylenol in it. Do not give both over-the-counter Tylenol and prescription pain medication. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for the child’s weight, and do not exceed maximum amount from all sources in 24 hours. WOUND CARE: 1. At diaper changes, apply a large amount of petroleum jelly (Vaseline ) or antibiotic ointment to the head of the penis. 2. Do not put your child in the bath or shower for 48 hours; Sponge bathe him during this time. 3. If your child has a bandage, it can be removed after 48 hours. Soak the bandage with water in the tub or shower when you bathe your child. When the bandage gets loose, it should slide up and off the penis like a sleeve. This may take several baths and is OK if it takes several days. If the bandage gets stuck down around the base of the penis, it will get tight and needs to come off immediately. 4. If your child has a super glue type dressing, it will flake off over time. 5. It is OK if the bandage falls off early, just clean the head of the penis as directed. 6. If the dressing becomes soiled, use hydrogen peroxide and / or baby wipes to clean the area. Apply Vaseline or antibiotic ointment as usual. It is OK if it doesn’t come totally clean. Do the best you can. 7. After the bandage is off, clean the penis with mild soap and water or hydrogen peroxide around the stitches. Pat dry gently or use a blow dryer on low heat, then apply petroleum jelly (Vaseline ) or antibiotic ointment. Do this twice a day for two weeks. 8. Redness, swelling, and / or bruising are normal and will gradually get better. The swelling may get worse for a short time after the bandage comes off, after which it will gradually get better. ACTIVITY: 1. No straddle toys / bikes / straddle swings for 3 weeks. Car seats and strollers are OK. 2. No swimming for 2 weeks. 3. Teenagers should not drive for 2 weeks.
