The Irish Whiskey Academy
The Irish Whiskey Academy AT MIDLETON DISTILLERY Welcome A very warm welcome to the centre of excellence in Irish whiskey education – the Irish Whiskey Academy. Established in 2013, the Irish Whiskey Academy lies on the border between the Old Midleton Distillery, which dates back to 1825, and the New Midleton Distillery, built in 1975. Our aim is to provide you with a truly unforgettable distillery experience during which you’ll learn about the craft and expertise that goes into creating some of the greatest Irish whiskeys. Behind every drop of Midleton Distillery whiskey is a team of experts who devote their time, energy and skills to the art of whiskey distillation. Meet them and discover how they show their respect for tradition while embracing innovative new technologies. Location The Irish Whiskey Academy is hosted in the converted 18th century Miller’s House at the heart of Midleton Distillery. Easily accessible by air, rail and road, Midleton town is situated 15km east of Cork, Ireland’s second largest city. Affectionately known as Ireland’s ‘Sunny South East’, the region is blessed with rich, fertile soils ideal for growing barley and enjoys one of the mildest climates in the country. The area also benefits from a plentiful supply of fresh, free-flowing water delivered directly to the distillery by the Dungourney River. An Unforgettable Experience Whether you’re a whiskey expert, budding enthusiast or new to the world of whiskey, a visit to the Irish Whiskey Academy is guaranteed to be a memorable and informative experience. Over two days we’ll show you how whiskey is crafted from start to finish, or as we like to say, from grain to glass. Enjoy distilling your own whiskey in our mini distillation laboratory and take part in a blending exercise. You’ll have the opportunity to discover and experience some of Ireland’s most famous whiskey brands including Jameson, Powers, Paddy, Redbreast, Green Spot and of course Midleton. All of these great whiskeys have been part of the fabric of Ireland for 200 years or more. From the moment you arrive at the Academy our team will take care of your every need – arranging all your local transfers, five star accommodation, meals, drinks and gifts. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet some of the distillery team and see how they spend their days, crafting Irish whiskey. Programme Details and Package Costs Academy experiences usually run for two days, on a Thursday and Friday. Class sizes are limited to just 15 and we welcome reservations from individuals as well as groups. The price includes accommodation, food, drink, transfers, gifts and more.
