New members of our
family
We are now approaching the end of the nesting
season and it was a pretty successful one. Just in
the last 3 months we have relocated more than 85
nests and released 3332 baby turtles. Many of
those nests were adopted by our guests too as
part of our Sea Turtle Nest Adoption Program.
Coral Planting
Our newly installed frames are doing well
and we are planning some more coral
planting. A new Coral Adoption Program
will also start soon under the supervision
of our new resident marine biologist.

Reef Day & Reef Check 2013: A roaring success!
Beginning of June, Mataking organized its yearly Reef Day
to raise awareness amongst the local children. The theme
selected this year was “Eco-Awareness, the future is in
our hands with our partners from WWF and Green Semporna. More than 1000 kg of debris were collected on 4
islands! Also,in partnership with Reef Check Malaysia, the
yearly survey of the reefs around Mataking was conducted.
Mataking produces its own fresh water!
World Sea Turtle Day
On June 13th, Mataking June 15th is World Sea Turtle Day and of course

Rare: A two headed hatchling
Hatchlings with additional appendages have suffered a genetic mutation resulting from an unrepaired DNA during incubation

The hatchling appeared healthy,
and eager to get to the sea but
