WELCOME PETE MURRAY MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND MAJOR EVENTS THE HON KATE JONES MP WELCOME TO THE 2016 CQ UNIVERSITY VILLAGE FESTIVAL ● Welcome to the Southern Great Barrier Reef for the 2016 Village Festival – part of our vibrant calendar of events that makes Queensland the best address on earth. ● Welcome to the 2016 CQ University Village Festival! We are thrilled to announce Pete Murray as our major act of the weekend. Also performing are James Reyne (Australian Crawl) and Mark Seymour (Hunters & Collectors) and we are very excited to have Jazz legend James Morrison playing on the Sunday. All of these artists are a huge coup for The CQ University Village Festival. Experiences are at the core of any destination event and I hope you come away from the Village Festival with some amazing Queensland memories. Events play an important role in showcasing a destination, driving visitation, fostering community pride and creating jobs for the local community. The Palaszczuk Government recognises that events drive Queensland’s tourism economy and we are proud to support this event through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program. Thank you to the event organisers, volunteers, and those who have come together to deliver the Village Festival for Queensland, and I encourage you to make the most of your experience in the Southern Great Barrier Reef. The Hon Kate Jones MP Minister for Tourism and Major Events The Village Festival is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of a dynamic calendar of events throughout the state, our Federal Government though Festivals Australia and the Livingstone Shire Council. We would like to thank our major sponsors and acknowledge their continued support and generous investment in the event, which provides a unique opportunity to showcase the region’s creative talent. From the bush to the beach we have so much to offer – enjoy! The Village Festival Board ACOUSTICALLY YOURS ● It’s an unlikely story... a rising Rugby football star gets so badly injured that he has to leave his sport behind. He picks up an acoustic guitar, teaches himself how to play it and records an indie CD that he sells after shows from the back of his Kombi Van. His debut album, the roots/rock infused ‘Feeler’ (2003), sold 6 x platinum in Australia and earned 12 ARIA Award nominations. The acclaimed album spawned his classic ‘So Beautiful’ which went on to become the Most Performed Australian Song of the Year. Pete went on to release ‘See The Sun’, featuring crowd favourite ‘Better Days’, ‘Summer At Eureka’, ‘Blue Sky Blue’ and more recently ‘The Byron Sessions”. PETE MURRAY PERFORMING AT YEPPOON FORESHO RE SATURDAY AUGUST 13 Pete Murray has repeatedly enjoyed sold out tours across the country, and the rest of the world, throughout his career. He has most recently finished up a string of shows with Rob Thomas across Australia before jumping back in the studio. 2016 will see Pete Murray release his highly anticipated new music and we can’t wait to hear his acoustic set on the Yeppoon Beachfront this Village Festival! A HELPING HAND Livingstone Shire Council is incredibly pleased to support this year’s CQ University Village Festival and the excellent flow-on benefits for our local economy, with thousands of visitors flocking to the region over the three-day event. Council is absolutely committed to making our Shire the place to live, work, invest and raise a family and, with events like the Village Festival, it is an exciting time for Livingstone residents. Attractions such as the award winning Keppel Kraken and current Yeppoon Foreshore Revitalisation are putting our region on the national stage and making our Shire a premier coastal destination for tourists. We are also proud to support local artists, musicians and performers through various events and grants, while Council is also gathering SEARCH E WITH ‘ENGAG TONE’ IN LIVINGS ND STORE A THE APP R OAD FO DOWNL FREE ideas to advance the establishment of a dedicated arts and culture precinct in Yeppoon. We have a vibrant and flourishing community in our Shire and Council will continue to work sideby-side with residents to realise our full potential as a region and ensure a thriving, prosperous future for many years to come. For more information call us: 4913 5000 or email [email protected] Everyday we see how tough many families are doing it in Central Queensland. With this is mind, over ten years ago we launched the Coal Train/Undamine Industries Community Fund. Because we think it’s important that we all work together to help each other out. The Coal Train Scholarship Fund provides funds for clubs to sponsor individuals to join their club at no cost. We are super proud of this initiative and it has seen many children throughout our region pursue music, join a club, play sport (including swimming, life saving, rugby league, netball, scouts, rugby union, AFL) and grow in self-confidence. We also sponsor many children who are excelling in their sporting, musical or academic field. We wish these little legends the very best and hope you all enjoy the Village Festival! www.coaltrain.com.au Email: [email protected] Phone: 4939 1445 Coal Train. Where Community Matters. JAMES MORRISON MARK SEYMOUR & JAMES REYNE JAZZ LEGEND AND TRUMPET VIRTUOSO ● James Morrison is, by anybody’s standard, a virtuoso in the true sense of the word. Besides the trumpet, this multi-instrumentalist also plays piano, all the brass, saxophones, and double bass. Now 53, James Morrison’s career thus far has been diverse and perhaps not typical of most jazz musicians. He recorded Jazz Meets the Symphony with The London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lalo Schifrin, performed concerts at the Royal Albert Hall with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden for Princess Anne. Royal command performances on two occasions for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and for US Presidents Bush & Clinton at Parliament House in Australia. James has also performed his own ‘Concerto for “WHEN WILL YOU TWO PLAY TOGETHER AGAIN?” ● “When will you two play together again?” Euphonium’ with the Tonkünstler Orchestra at the Muskverein in Vienna. James has been recognized for his service to the arts in Australia by being awarded a medal of The Order of Australia by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with particular mention of his contribution to music education. He is a Doctor of the University at Queensland Conservatorium of Music and has received a Doctor of Music from the Edith Cowan University Western Australia. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Australia and Vice-Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow. With interests so broad and a career so filled with highlights it seems that James Morrison is the question both James Reyne and Mark Seymour have fielded many a time in the past nine years. For fans of these iconic singer songwriters, the wait is nearly over, with a national tour “And The Rest Is History”, confirmed for the third quarter of this year. JAMES MORRISON & GUESTS PERFORMIN G AT YEPPOON FORESH SUNDAY AUGUST 14 ORE must have done just about everything he could want to do – but not so... When asked, “What is there left to do?” James’ reply is typically “This is just the warm up!” The live relationship between James Reyne and Mark Seymour began back in 2007, when they embarked on a massive 90 date national tour, showcasing an extraordinary catalogue of some of Australia’s most loved songs. The 2016 incarnation will be a limited national run, with Mark and James hitting the stage both together and alone, performing classics from Hunters & Collectors, Australian Crawl and each of their extensive solo works. PERFORMING AT YEPPOON FORESHORE SATURDAY AUGUST 13 In a semi acoustic format, both artists will deliver a set of the uniquely Australian songs we all know and love, and have guaranteed that they’ll throw in a few surprises! “I’m really looking forward to it,” Seymour said of the impending run of shows in a statement. “It was huge last time. “Apart from all the songs, the crowd singing and the big band at the end, James Reyne is a very funny many not many people know that.” Echoed Reyne: “I thoroughly enjoyed the last time we toured together and it worked a treat. Dare I say it, but there’s a fair cache of songs to play and enjoy as well. Mark’s a lovely, talented guy, so come join the fun.” THE VILLAGE FESTIVAL ACCOMMODATION SPECIAL A MESSAGE FROM MICHELLE LANDRY FEDERAL MEMBER FOR CAPRICORNIA 12–14 AUGUST 2016 ● It is a delight to once again find ourselves at Village Festival time. 2 nights from $149 per night or $179 for 1 night stay This year, after much lobbying in Canberra, I was a particularly thrilled to announced that the Federal Government is backing the festival with a $25,000 grant through the Ministry for the Arts’ Festivals Australia program. in a Standard or Superior Room includes full buffet breakfast for 2 adults & up to 2 children FREE The grant will bring Australian trumpet and jazz legend James Morrison to Yeppoon for the festival to conduct a jazz workshop with music students. Also, if someone could please put in a request to Pete Murray to play ‘Better Days’, that’d be great. T CQUniversity’s support is bringing the iconic artist Pete Murray to Yeppoon, arguably one of the biggest names to have appeared on stage at a Village Festival in its 14 year history. CQUniversity brought Pete to town because we want the Village Festival to better engage with the youth of the region, and to cement the Festival’s rightful reputation as being the premier music, arts and cultural festival for the Central Queensland region. CQUniversity is a strong advocate for the Arts, and together with Livingstone Shire Council we are developing plans to create a modern new integrated arts education, production and gallery facility right in the heart of the CBD. This infrastructure will help unlock the tremendous economic and cultural potential of the region’s creative enterprises, and it is an incredibly exciting project – so watch this space! Beach rade YEPPOON CBD ● I am delighted that CQUniversity has once again come on board to be a sponsor of the Yeppoon Village Festival. But this year I am especially excited about CQUni becoming the major naming rights sponsor, an arrangement I hope to see continue as the Festival keeps growing from strength to strength into the future.
