• Does the pen have a warranty?
Yes, the pen has a warranty of 2 years from the
date of dispensation.
• Does the cartridge have an expiration
date?
Yes, the date is printed on the package of the
product.
• Should the pen containing a cartridge
be refrigerated?
Yes, the pen should be stored in a refrigerator at
2 to 8 °C. For convenience, the PUREGON® Pen
containing a cartridge can be stored at up to 25 °C
for one single period not exceeding 3 months.
Tip: Store the pen in the crisper or door of your
refrigerator to keep it from freezing.

• How long can I use the opened cartridge?
You may use the opened cartridge (after the rubber
inlay has been pierced) for a maximum of 28 days.
Tip: Never store the pen with the needle attached
to it. The drug may leak out of the cartridge and
there is risk of contamination.
• How long before I use it do I have to take
the pen out of the refrigerator?
You should take the pen out of the refrigerator
about 30 minutes before injection. The pen
should reach room temperature.

• How do I know whether I have injected
the right amount of the drug?
Your doctor will tell you the amount you need per
day. Dial the appropriate amount with the yellow
dosage knob of the pen and inject yourself. Press
the dosage knob all the way down and hold the
pen steadily in place for 5 seconds. Only then pull
the pen out from the injection site. This way you
can be sure you have injected the right amount.
• How should I dispose of the needle?
Dispose of the used needle in the outer needle
shield immediately in a suitable safety container
as recommended by your doctor.

• If you have dialled further than the correct dosage,
continue to turn the dosage knob in the same
direction as far as it will turn. You will see an arrow
( ) in the dosage window.
• The dosage scale can then be moved freely.
Completely push in the injection button and start
dialling again.
If there is not enough
PUREGON® left in the cartridge
• If you have already tried to inject the dose and find that
the dosage knob cannot be pressed down all the way,
this is a sign that not enough of the drug is left in the
cartridge. In the dosage window you will then see not the
number ‘0’ but the number of units you still need to inject
to complete your total dose. Wait 5 seconds before you
pull the needle out of the skin. Dispose of the used
needle. Write down the number of units you still need
to inject. Turn dosage knob as far as it will turn (as with
dosage correction).
• Before removing the empty cartridge from the pen,
you must screw off the needle.
900 IE*
• Unscrew the body from the cartridge holder, put
down the body and remove the empty cartridge
from the cartridge holder.
• You can now either:
- Reassemble the pen without a cartridge and store it;
or
- Insert a new cartridge into the holder, reassemble the
pen and store it safely in the refrigerator at 2 to 8 °C.
Never store the pen with the needle attached (see
instructions, page 13).
PUREGON® cartridges are available in three different
strengths. Your doctor has prescribed you the dose
that is right for you.
* The abbreviations IU and IE both stand for “International Units”
Your PUREGON® package includes:
• PUREGON ®
- 300 IU / 0,36 mL solution for injection in a cartridge +
6 pen injection needles or
- 600 IU / 0,72 mL solution for injection in a cartridge +
6 pen injection needles or
- 900 IU / 1,08 mL solution for injection in a cartridge +
9 pen injection needles
• Press the injection button completely.
• Remove the cartridge.
• Insert a new cartridge and follow the steps for preparing
the injection. When dialling the dosage, select the
number of units needed to complete the total dose.
Use a different site for the injection.

holder, disinfect the rubber
membrane of the cartridge with
an alcohol swab.

outer and then the inner

• For doses from 50 IU to
450 IU, turn the dosage
knob until the dosage
discussed with your doctor

• Do not touch the thin metal
needle and do not bring it into
contact with other objects.

• Hold the pen with the
needle pointing upwards.
• Take the needle out of the
package, hold the outer needle
shield in hand and remove the
protective pink paper seal.
Do not touch the needle
with your hand.
• Tap the cartridge holder
gently with your finger to
help air bubbles rise to the
top.

whether droplets come
out of the tip of the needle.

• Take the body and insert it into
the cartridge holder. The black
rod must press against the rubber
piston of the cartridge.
• Now screw the body tightly
onto the cartridge holder.
• The arrow ( ) on the cartridge
holder must point at the centre
of the yellow mark ( ) on the
blue body.
• With one hand, push the end
of the cartridge holder firmly
into the outer needle shield,
which you hold in your other
hand, and screw it on securely.
c.) If you do not see a droplet,
repeat step a).
Now
your pen
is ready
to use!
• Suitable places for injection include the top of the
thighs and the abdomen. The groin area and the
navel should be avoided.
2 Inject
• With two fingers, pinch the
previously disinfected skin
area. With your other hand,
insert the entire needle straight
(at a 90° angle) into the skin.
• Press the injection button
fully.
• Wait 5 seconds before
removing the needle from
the skin.
3 Remove needle
• Place the outer needle shield
on a flat surface with the
opening pointing up. Carefully
insert the needle, which is still
attached on the pen, and
push down firmly. The outer
needle shield should now be
connected to the cartridge
holder. Now you can unscrew
the outer needle shield along
with the needle from the pen.
• Change the injection site daily to avoid skin
reactions.
• Choose the same time each day for injection.
Your doctor will advise you what time of day is
best to perform the self-injection.
• After the injection, hold a sterile swab over the
injection site for a few seconds.
Your doctor or a medical professional
appointed by him will give you precise
instructions how to inject yourself with
PUREGON® using the pen.
If you have not understood the procedure,
do not attempt to inject yourself with the
drug.
