PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Bill Siler
President
February 2016
Date:
So the start of a new year is here. I for one can’t wait to see what the New
Year brings us. So your board is working on some special events for the Time:
membership throughout the next year.
February 3, 2016
Social - 6:00 pm
Dinner - 7:00 pm
We are looking at bringing back Monte Carlo night once again in
conjunction with the Holiday Party. It was such a great success two years
ago we thought why not try it again. I am going to look into Universal
Studios for the location and hope to have this worked out in the next couple
months. Our reason for having it there, is so after the party we can let you
party animals lose in the park to do whatever you want to do. Should make
for a nice night for everyone.
We are also working on a few other ideas see below please let us know if
any of them appeals to you:
• Bowling Night out
• The Hollywood Bowl event again
• Comedy Club night
• K2 karting event
• Going to a Basketball game
• Going to a Baseball game
• Adding another family picnic at the beach
These are just a few ideas, but we would love to hear from you. This is
your ASPE chapter and we want to make it fun for everyone this year.
DRIVE TO INCREASE ATTENDANCE

Navien Partners with Delco Sales in Southern California
January 11, 2016 - Navien has started the year 2016 by engaging Delco Sales as their
new rep agency for Southern California, Hawaii and Southern Nevada. Regional
Manager, Joe Norris said," Delco Sales has been established as a leading rep agency for
over 50 years in the plumbing, heating and waterworks arena. While we seldom make
changes in our representation, this Delco-Navien union makes perfect sense for our
company, the leader in condensing technology."
Founded in 1963 Delco Sales represents industry leading manufacturers in the
residential, commercial, specification, and plumbing and heating markets of Southern
California, Southern Nevada and the Hawaiian Islands. From its state-of-the-art facility in
Anaheim CA, Delco Sales today represents over 30 top manufacturer brands with its
team of 3 agency principals and over 40 employees.
“Delco Sales was built upon integrity, dedication and relationship building”
said President and CEO Steve Klapp. “We help empower our customers to grow their
business, while creating demand for our manufacturers’ products in the marketplace.
Consistent analysis of market trends – as well as our expertly-trained staff – gives our
agency the tools to provide the best possible service, support and product selection out
there. We are proud to be able to include Navien products in our offering.” Klapp added,
“Our goal is to consistently keep our employees, principals, customers and
manufacturers informed in this ever-changing industry and position them for success.”

Commercial restroom design considerations By
John A. Clark, P.E.
John is wrote about the design considerations must
address the number of users, durability, water savings,
serviceability, initial and operational costs, and have
Americans Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility. The
design team needs to meet with the owners to define the
economic quality of the fixtures used as, “good, better
and best.” Then, the facility must be designed as per the
current and local Codes.
In his article, he wrote about the restroom odor. All
restrooms have floor drain to carry away any water
overflows from a toilet, sink or urinal. The simple
solutions are to have the restroom cleaners add a little
water to the drain at each cleaning. Other choices
are to add mineral oil to the drain water to reduce
evaporation, provide trap primers, or use memory
rubber trap seals. The drain location should be under
a stall partition to avoid any one from peeing into the
drain if the restroom is very busy. The drain trap tends
to go dry over time and sewer gas contributes to odor
complaints. In his conclusion, the design team should
have discussions with the owner, owner’s maintenance
staff, available contractors, and local code officials to
define the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR) for
any certifications, cost or operational savings, and
target visual goals. Settle on a level of “good, better and
best” for the design, construction and operational goals.
It is very interest to read and we recommend that all
should read.
That is all for this month. See you all in next meeting.
As usual, do not hesitate to e-mail any board member
for any particular topics that you may want to see in any
of our technical programs. Also check our Technical
Calendar for upcoming Technical Sessions.
