Born in New Jersey, Jacquelyn Aluotto has lived in both urban and suburban settings before finally settling down in Edgewater, NJ. From a very young age, she knew she wanted to be an actor. She worked hard and was accepted by the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she studied theater. However, the career path Jacquelyn envisioned went in an exciting different direction. She had begun volunteering at a women’s shelter. Listening to the harrowing stories told by the battered women and children she met there, she asked herself what she could do to help them more. She was struck by inspiration. She would document the women’s stories and what they had to go through by filming them in their natural setting in the shelter. Jacquelyn believes that through film, people will be able to understand the hardships and abuse these women and children had to endure, and be moved to help. Many women and children are on the road to a new life, through the help if the shelters. However, shelters are closing down. That is when her groundbreaking documentary film, Not in My Backyard was born. UNDERGROUND WORLD Never before have cameras been allowed into the guarded world of underground shelters. Not one to back down, Jacquelyn dove right into her touching topic producing poignant, never before seen footage. It has made me who I am”. Jacquelyn continued, “I want to help change the world and make a difference. That is why creating Pick It Up Pictures and making socially conscious films are so important”.
