Holiday Festival of Lights Corporate Sponsorship A Lowcountry Holiday Tradition November 11, 2011 through January 1, 2012 James Island County Park Charleston, South Carolina What In 1990, Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission created the Holiday Festival of Lights to bring families and friends together and to raise support for the Charleston County park system. With over 600 individual displays located throughout the park in 132 power locations, the Holiday Festival of Lights is a magical sight to see! The event attracts over 200,000 guests each year - an overwhelming crowd attending more than just a spectacular threemile driving tour! The festival also offers a variety of activities at Winter Wonderland and Santa’s Village, including a meticulously crafted sculpture constructed by hand with 50-tons of sand. When Entering its 22nd year, the Holiday Festival of Lights offers a preview to over 2,000 walkers and runners at the Holiday Festival of Lights Fun Run & Walk on November 10. The festival officially begins on the evening of November 11 and runs through January 1. Where The event is located on 648 beautiful acres in the James Island County Park, Charleston, SC. Why Through special events like the Holiday Festival of Lights, sponsors enable the Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission to carry out its mission and vision and ensure our ability to “improve the quality of life in Charleston County by offering a diverse system of park facilities, programs, & services.” How Our Chief Light Show Supervisor has a full-time, year-round commitment to the festival. His team designs and manufactures the displays in-house at James Island County Park. Greeting cards, holiday coloring books, and local landmarks often serve as inspiration for the designs. It takes about 6-10 weeks to create one design, with the process of transforming the park beginning in late summer. The entire staff of Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission and many volunteers commit to evening volunteer hours throughout October to hand-string millions of mini-lights on trees, shrubbery, and along the road – the goal being not to have “one dark spot.” Festival Fun Facts… • The Holiday Festival of Lights is on the list of the nation’s top ten holiday light shows: www.americasbestonline.com. • Holiday Festival of Lights has been one of the top 20 events in the Southeast as mentioned by the Southeastern Tourism Society. • Holiday Festival of Lights has received national attention from the Travel Channel, the Wall Street Journal, AOL, The Discovery Channel, and Southern Living. • More than 100 local businesses and organizations contribute to the success and growth of the festival through sponsorship. • Visitors donate over 4,000 pounds of canned goods to the Lowcountry Food Bank to get a discount on admission to the festival.
