Another year in the books and the phrase that I heard my folks say comes to
mind. “The older you get the faster the years fly by” it is so true.
I have been employed full time and holding a board position now for the last
six years and have made the decision that after more than 41 years working for
the same company it is time to retire and will do so in the first quarter this year if
all goes as planned. That will leave only the honey do’s and the board position.
What will I ever do with all my time? Ha, Ha! I have watched for the last six years how most of you have
enjoyed yourselves and hope to be able to do the same. I won’t know how to travel if I don’t drive my
600+ miles a day, but look forward to not having to do it.
This year is starting out fast paced right away. Coming this year we have the 29 Palms rally in January.
This rally has been filled. We have a small area rally planned for Spartanburg, SC in March limited to
30 coaches. We have some tours of the companies in the area in the plans (more in this newsletter). We
have a caravan scheduled to enter into Perry, GA to the FMCA Family Reunion, and that is followed by
our Bald Mountain rally in Hiawassee. There is still some room for this rally. We reserved 100 spots and
should fill it all the way. These activities are followed by the FMCA Family Reunion in Redmond in August
and right after that our National FCOC Rally in Coos Bay at the Mills Casino.
We will be conducting a Business meeting at the Bald Mountain rally and one of the things that will
be on the schedule will be some house cleaning on the standing rules and our chapter by-laws. These
are the formal documents that function as a guide for our club and need to follow the FMCA rules and
by-laws. The FMCA has done some modifications and we need to address them as well as freshen up
our documents and correct some wording and punctuation that was incorrect. All the changes have
already been discussed and approved in previous business meetings, we are simply getting these into
the documents we file with the FMCA. The updated documents are on the fcocrv.org website for you to
read and comment on if you would like. The current ones are also there so you can compare them both.
If you have comments please sent them to me [email protected] or Linda Steckley at
[email protected] so we can place them on the agenda for the business meeting.
As always I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board of directors who take the time and
expense to keep this club functioning. I also want to thank all the members that we have and thank you
for the suggestions and comments on the operations of the club so we can keep making it better.
I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can at the upcoming events.
Steve Batorson

I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped us at all our Rallies and the First
Timers who come and make our Rallies successful.
We started our year with a National Rally in Quartzsite, AZ and we had an Area
Rally in Tampa Florida. In June Katherine Henley hosted an Area Rally in Colorado
Springs, CO. A good time was had by all who attended. The train ride was
cancelled due to the fire. Yet everyone tells me it was a great Rally. The FMCA held
their Rally in Gillette, WY. The weather was not the best and a lot of people had to
be towed out of the campground. We then went to Sturgis, SD for a National Rally
at the Elkview campground. We had 75 sites and we sold out. The food was outstanding and we even had a hog roast. Our caterer was Mikes Grill and Catering.
If ever in Rapid City, please try them, you will enjoy the food. The bus trip to Crazy
Horse and Mt. Rushmore was a hit. We had a trivia game, a card game called (UP yours) it was a lot of fun and we
also did a scavenger hunt. On Thursday night the Black Hill Barbershop Quartet entertained us.
This year we will start the year with an area rally at the Supper Show in Tampa and an area rally in Indio, CA. In
March the FMCA will hold the rally in Perry, GA. After the FMCA Rally in Perry, we will go to Bald Mountain Resort in
Hiawassee, GA. If you plan to go don’t wait to make your reservations as we already have about 50 reservations in.
Once we are sold out, we can’t get more sites. In August, the FMCA will hold a rally in Redmond, OR. We will be
holding our National Rally in Coos Bay, Or. More to come on both National Rallies.
I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday.

DECEMBER 2013
It’s hard to believe the year is almost over and that the holidays are upon us once again. I
certainly hope you’re enjoying a great holiday season (especially if you’re on the road) with
friends and family. As we get closer to the end of 2013, it’s a great time to look back at just how
exciting a year it has been.
As I write this, we are just wrapping up another very successful week at RVIA in Louisville. It
was - as it always is - so great seeing all the beautiful new coaches coming out in 2014 built on
our chassis, including new models from Newmar, Thor, Winnebago, Itasca, Fleetwood, Forest
River and Tiffin, to name a few. As I’ve mentioned before (and often), our goal is to consistently
exceed the expectations of our customers (coach builders) so that they can build coaches that
exceed the expectations of our mutual customers (experienced, discerning motorhome owners
like you). After a few days at RVIA, it’s clear to see that our build partners are going to do just
that again in 2014.
We debuted an exciting new product ourselves at RVIA - the V-Ride Rear Suspension System.
Featuring a completely reinvented design from the ground up, the V-Ride is the first ever singleaxle rear suspension rated for 24,000 pounds. Development of the V-Ride was made possible
in large part by the updates to federal bridge laws through the Department of Transportation,
updates the RVIA was heavily involved in advocating for.
The V-Ride will enable motorhome owners to carry more of their gear and luxury coach builders
to add more amenities. And, V-Ride’s proven design and engineering will provide impressive
durability and an incredibly stable, comfortable ride – which are the kinds of chassis benefits
you’ve rightly come to expect from FCCC over the years. We’ve received strong interest from
several potential build partners and expect V-Ride - on the XC chassis - to be a feature of some
outstanding luxury coaches beginning in model year 2015.
In addition to our adventures at RVIA, we’ve continued to hit the road to many other places over
the past few months. This includes several rallies, which we always value for the opportunity to
talk directly with dealers and owners like you about what they see, what excites them and what
they want in their next motorhome.
We won’t spend too much time on looking back, of course, especially not with so much to look
forward to in 2014 and beyond. We are excited about the continued positive momentum of the
industry and the opportunities we see for FCCC and our build partners. And,
most importantly, we hope you’re excited about what the future holds for you,
your family and your coach.
On behalf of everyone here at FCCC, happy holidays – and happy trails!
Bob Harbin

FMCA Corner
As I sit down to write this, it is Thanksgiving morning. The weather is a bit chilly here in south
Florida. The holiday season is upon us. Kathy and I would like to wish all of you that read this a
Very, Very Merry Christmas and the Happiest New Year ever.
On to news from the FMCA Executive Board Meeting of October 24, 2013. Treasurer Percy
Bell reported that fiscal year 2013 was a great turnaround year. Expenses were lowered by
$819,926 while revenue was up $221,418 from 2012. This resulted in FMCA showing a profit
above Budget of $369,894 and $1,041,344 better than 2012.
Executive Director Jerry Yeatts Reported that FMCA has three new staff members: Chris
Smith, Director of Administrative Services/Controller; Brian Short, Area Rally Coordinator;
and Mariann Thornberry, Convention Services Assistant. Jerry reported that the FMCA store
produced a profit of $37,000 in 2013 and FMCA has opened a satellite store at the Round
Bottom Road office. The conversion of the Membership Management and Customer Relations
Software System (Élan) continues with an anticipated revised launch date in the first quarter of
2014. FMCA continues to discuss programs with Kampgrounds of America (KOA) that will
be mutually beneficial to both companies, including a co-branded FMCA/KOA road Help.
KOA has also requested a proposal for FMCA to handle logistical arrangements for a VKR
(Value Kard Reward) rally. With a partnership developing with Kampgrounds of America
(KOA), a discussion has taken place regarding shared benefits. Once the membership
database conversion has been completed, FMCA may be able to offer this affordable mail
forwarding benefit to KOA members. The Michelin Advantage tire program and the FMCA
Tour Connection powered by Fantasy RV Tours continue to bring in new members monthly to
the association; however, we are still losing more members each month than are joining or
renewing. At the end of October our active membership was 77,795.
The Introductory “I” member program has been discontinued and all complimentary members
will now be issued Full/Family membership. Also the $25 gift card for recruitment of five new
members and another $25 gift card for ten new members recruited have been removed from the
G.R.O.W. program.
KOA Care Camp has been added to the FMCA’s Round UP charities. The other three are Good
Will-Hinckley, Habitat for Humanity International and ProLiteracy Worldwide.
Respectfully submitted by
Roy Hopper
National Director, Freightliner Chassis Owners Club.

Spartanburg/Gaffney Area Rally
Tom James and I have put together a small pre-rally to the FMCA Family
Reunion. We will be holding it in Spartanburg, SC (limited to 30 coaches first
come basis). We are staying at the KOA in Spartanburg and will be doing some
tours of factories in the area. Provided will be 2 Breakfasts and 2 Dinners. We
will have a pot luck dinner one evening and a social hour all evenings. The FHU
sites will be $38.10 per night and the W/E site $32.70 per night. The dates will be
March 10, 11, and 12 so you can get to Perry for the caravan if you are going in
with the group. One of the tours will be the Freightliner Chassis plant and at this
time working on the other tours.
You will make your reservations directly with the KOA campground telling
them you are with our group. Their phone number is (864) 489-2022. After you
have a confirmed space fill out the registration and send a check for $100 dollars
to cover the other rally costs based on two persons per coach. The registration is
below and on the website. Make Check Payable to FCOC for $100.00 for two
people. The address to the campground is: 160 Scarratt Road, Gaffney, SC

Upcoming FCOC Spring National Rally
Spring in the Georgia Mountains
Everything is in place to have a great rally at the Bald Mountain camping resort in Hiawassee,
GA March 21st-25th, 2014. Katherine & Larry Henley along with Rachel and David
Cuthbertson have been hard at work assembling everything that goes into hosting a quality
rally. The food, entertainment, crafts, and parking just being some of the things that have to be
taken care of.
We have reserved 100 sites for this rally and as of January 1st over fifty coaches have already
registered. We really want to fill this and we have about three hundred from our club registered
into Perry. If you plan on attending it is advisable to get your registration in soon due to the
cut-off being at 100 coaches. This is about a 4-hour drive north of the Perry complex. So if
you are attending the FMCA convention, this can be done in a day pretty easily. We have the
schedule posted on the website and is as complete as it can be for now. If something changes
we will update that schedule and you will receive the final one at check-in.
Caravan to FMCA in Perry
I will be leading in the caravan to the Perry FMCA convention. I will put a notice up on the
website as soon as the information filters down to me as to the meeting location, dates and
times. We are still putting the final pieces in place. If you don’t do computers give me a call
after the 15th of January and I’ll give you the information.
In Gillette we had 41 coaches and I hope we can get that many again.

This is how the Freightliner chassis looks as it arrives.
Here is the chassis with the display set up.
This is when we were moving the chassis to the display location.

These show how the chassis was lifted off the semi-trailer and then lowered to the ground.

Offers from Oasis Dealers
Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) and select Freightliner Oasis dealerships
around the country have initiated a program offering members of the Freightliner Chassis
Owners Club (FCOC) special pricing on service labor and service parts.
The program offers current FCOC members the following discounts:
• 10% off posted labor rates
• 10% off parts
It is important that you do the following; if you don’t you may not get the discount and it will be your own fault!
You MUST tell them you are an FCOC member up front, request the discount, and identify yourself by showing your current membership card. Ask to get a copy of your billing with the discount on it once your work is done.
In developing the Oasis Dealer Discount Program all Oasis Dealers were contacted and invited to participate. But,
participation in the Oasis Dealer Discount Program is a business decision made by each individual Oasis Dealer.
If the Oasis Dealer you wish to use is not on the list of participating dealers we would encourage you to let them
know of your desire to have them participate in the program. Dealers wishing more information about the program
should contact Tom James (916) 870-9322, email [email protected]. Also, if you have any problem with any
Oasis Dealer on the list let Tom James know and he will try to help.
As a reminder, it’s up to you to ask first for the Discount, not after.
The following is a list of currently participating Oasis dealerships.
